you are truly ( as u know ) in possession of a musical work of art , i had the honour of visiting EMS in 1972 to see and hear, for one the bbc radiophonic workshop at the EMS studios in Putney . the VCS3 and other machines.
your polysynth did not exist then, happy days to hear such a synth from all those years ago ..
Thank you so much. I've never heard this wonderful beast before.She is lovely,I hope you treat her like the treasure that she is ,[sorry, I get a little strange with classic,analogues.] especially something so legendary as an EMS.You are so lucky. Anyone that doesn't recognize the significance of this monumental piece of art, knows nothing about synthesizers.Stick to kazoos!
@frozinarosie True that! I'm treating her really gentle with a lot of love, attention and care. She definitely deserves it :) I'm also a real analogue (yes with UE at the end) addict. I'm blessed that I can also play MS-20 and ARP2600 regularly. ARP = heaven for me :)
I don't know why professional reviewers talk so much smack about this synth. So maybe by the end of the 70's there was a stigma surrounding polysynths, but so what? If people back then could know how poor virtual synths would sound by comparison in the future, they would find the Polysynthi to be awesome. Sounds good to me.
i bloody hate it when people come out with stupid statements like its 'videogamey'.well go and buy a guitar or a piano then, because you obviously dont like anologue synths or electronic music.this sounds beautiful to me.
@Desmaad Yes, the sound is "videogamey" because it's too "square wave-based" ... but I find it very deep and warm (listen 1:20 and after...). It is surely a limited synth.... but it prefer this to many digital ones.
All the reviews on this ems Synth are always negative, but I really like the fact that it has built in effects...Also, The little bit of playing you have shown us, makes me think this is a pretty cool synth, worthy of the EMS, title. What little they have written about the polysynthi,,is always some version of how new management, like what happened to Moog with the polymoog and so on,, Made really bad decisions by putting out bad products without enough R and D...Whatever!!!
I've wanted to hear this beast for ages, many thanks for uploading !!! ;D

It has an analog delay built in. Wow.
meterspecialist 2 months ago
@meterspecialist yeah, does that mean it has a tape loop running inside??
kipixt 2 months ago
@kipixt No, it would probably use a BBD chip. Solid-state echoes were coming out around the time this did.
Desmaad 2 months ago
@meterspecialist Nah, that's probably external.
