Phil Varone isn't an inspiration. He's a crybaby who couldn't make it in rock, so now he's trying to make a career out of whining about it. If he didn't blow his money on drugs he would have something to show for his efforts. And if he could have made it in the music industry he would be doing blow off a strippers ass right now.

TRUE words about mtv/radio. Yet this is a slap in the face to hard working musicians. Esp when we travel thousands of miles in our own vehicles, load our own gear, and play non-glamorous gigs night after night, 4 hour sets. He tries to say it is a monster that will consume you, when actually, if you have business sense, it's a regular job where you can have a blast. IMO he just couldn't control himself, his finances, or his personal life, so he's whining. Sorry. he's a great drummer though!
Sorry, but who cares about choice of ass.. I'm a guitar player. I've had it thrown at me left and right, every night of every weekend, for 5+ years.. It's the same as drugs. You need self control and business sense. I'm there for the money, and yea it's fun sometimes. But most gigs, I'm playing to get paid, not find ways to lose money.
Basically if you're going to screw any skank who wants to get with any random dude in a rock band, you might as well just shove your cock in a meat grinder.

Some people can manage the life, and some people can't. There are hoards of TALENTED musicians making a living in clubs, traveling in personal vehicles, loading their own gear, playing 4 hour gigs who would kill to have a posh stadium gig. Sleep all day on the bus, play for one hour, and get back on the bus. Nothin hard about that.

You're playing little tiny shows and thinking you can talk about what it's like to REALLY be in the business. You have no idea how much anxiety staying on top puts on famous people. I was introduced to this documentary in the bus from a lead singer of one of my bands... He actually knows Phil. I was just busting his chops saying Phil is a crybaby the whole time, and it's been a running gag ever since. So please: people with phil varone shrines, don't show up and kill me. It's just a laugh. I like him too.
