I remember as a young punk seeing Crass playing in the back of a Transit van with the panels all sawn off in Glasgow around 1981.Always loved Eve's voice on this and Where Next Columbus?Politics withstanding..and Penny Rimbaud's penchant for military tattoo style drumming, they are sonically similar to SWANS.
we are anonymous, we are aware of the corruption in the world's governments and their apathy for the human lives because of money.
we are aware of the governments' attempt to cover on the news of the rebellions to keep us as slaves for the current system.
we are anonymous, we declare war on the corrupted system, join the plan to get your freedom and rights back. you are a human being, your life has value. we are anonymous, we are legion, expect us!
Punks just people out to get your money, from a time when it provided the best people to target for it.People in thier late 40's back then knew all about the fact of liberation being a ticket to give out to everyone one way or the other - you know "you're right'-"someone else is wrong',"and that will be fourty bucks communal fees"-about the same the painting would go for!
I have heard Crass in the past, but until some tragic events... I have my husband to thank for helping me to LISTEN to CRASS... Although I am a huge Black Flag Lover.... I am intrigued.....
Interpretation of song & lyrics is spot on. The video is just simply really cool to watch. Thank you, as I am afraid this music will be lost to the mass of shit that is compiling as everyone and their mother calls themselves some sort of DJ.I assume only as society in general becomes more affluent, art (lyric, song, dance, play, etc.)becomes more prevalent only in that more people with no sight/inspiration are embracing the act. If this is as human evolution unfolds, leave me under the mushroom.
@grugach42 Don't be such a miserable cunt. Remember, 90% of everything is crap. The Punk we remember was mixed with dross in it's day; there are beautiful, mutant flowers out there, whether made by DJ's and their mothers, or new punk bands, or something that's never been heard of yet. Punks weren't the first, and sure as shit we won't be the last.
(n.b. this statement in no way encourages or endorses Dubstep)
Punk wasn't killed by mediawhore's, but by the system itself, it was a threat. The media is just a tool, you can't blame a tool for destroying something. ;-) That's just like saying that money is the root of all evil.
Well, you entirely misunderstood my meaning. Try reading it again, I wasn't blaming the media but the people that wanted recognition through it, but it doesn't matter because its unlikely that we're going to agree.
uhh, I'm just explaining that you can't kill ideas and that's true of any belief, just cause i might happen to have an idea on a topic that has no importance to you doesn't mean that it doesn't matter. Everyone has different feelings and thus different viewpoints on what matters and what doesn't.
punk was "killed" by a bunch of media whores that wanted to capitalize on a musical style that was growing in popularity. It was no one band that damaged the image of true punk musicians. Punk is an idea and a feeling; you can't kill an idea so punk isn't really dead at all. it's just in a bad remission right now.
hm. but u see, if sex pistols were only made for there image then that has nothing to do with real punk so i think it still exists even if most of this generation just sux mass balls
I love crass, as well as all sorts of music. I feel I can relate to crass the most at times because of their themed, varied songs.
But (sadly, to say) Punk is alive but in a different form of which it stood against. Some I can stand. This 'Simple Plan' and 'Tokio Hotel' pish is not punk, it's fucking garbage. The only good true punk going is the old bands getting back for the odd show.
I'm not pissed I agree with you. Women are mistreated but things are getting better for them. But there's always going to be an ignorant bastard who thinks labels that say your race or color or sex has an effect on a group of people.
I agree with CarolX2-a great song, and I think there should be more songs about women's issues (though we can't force artists to address issues that may not be relevant to them) but one thing that really irks me is that the rock industry has almost always been and [sadly], still is, a male-dominated industry, despite the multitude of hugely influential female artists, like Ms. Libertine, who've been prominent in the last 25-30 or so years. This NEEDS to change. Great song, great issue.
I remember the very first time I listened to Crass. It was Where next columbus. And as soon as I heard the begining bass line from the song (thats all it took) I just went, "Holy shit. This is the greatest fucking thing I have ever experianced. Ever." I love everything about Crass, but this is my favorite album. Even with the absence of Stevie! Great videos by the way.
favorite crass album out of the lot. was the first one my brothers friend gave me. took a time to warm to it but cudnt get it out of my head once i got into it.owe 10 years of silly haircuts to this album i love it
Crass did a lot more than take speed? They took the fuck up of so called 60's revolution and took it a stage further by inspiring thousands if not millions of people indirectly into the importance of being politically aware and learning and knowing their rights. The music and lyrics don't matter too much but the legacy of inspiration to others to stand up and refuse to follow blindly the bullshit we're fed as fact still lives on today.

Although I was a crass fiend for many years from the age of 14+, you have to admit that a lot of it is utter crap.
But this - is still incredible. 'I want so gently to remove your mask'. You could cry.
Berketex Bribe is another that has survived, hilarious rage. Listen if you've not heard it.
