  • The killers version is way better

  • The Killers did kill a classic.

  • yeah i think dance to joy division is possible... :D

  • 30 years today since Ian Curtis died. R.I.P. legend.

The music still lives on from generation to generation

  • chibs1234 - you don't know your ares from your elbow

  • He can't dance!

  • @chibs1234 it's not that he couldn't dance. It was that he danced differently. :)

  • when I started listening to Joy Division there were no CDs boys an' girls..

  • wow u'r so cool

  • aren't I?

  • You suck

  • when i started listening to joy division, the killers didnt exist

  • @maxxrockatanski when i was banging your mom you didnt exist

  • The best, listen to to the first album.

  • its so fuck! the great punk band of the world!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply brilliant!

  • When I started listening to Joy Division, there was no YouTube.

  • ahahah

    marry me

  • Win.

  • @BeatriceBlue When I started listening to JD you probably weren't born... Lol, 1985 I guess.

  • @ButtNugent, very sweet of you! But, I was born in '72 & started listening to them in '82, due to a much older friend.

  • When I started listening to Joy Division, there was no electricity, public transportation nor eskimos.

  • @Griies hahaha! And my people, the Ute Indian's, were trying to figure out how to play Love Will Tear Us Apart on their drums. Didn't much work, but gotta give 'em credit for trying!

  • @BeatriceBlue Joy Division was popular when there was no internet either, glupane.

  • @BeatriceBlue My computer at the time was a Commodore 64 and it certainly didn't get internet

  • When I started listening joy division there were no videos on youtube 'bout them.

  • this song is so ill. first time listening to joy division and im liking them

  • Listen to "Love Will Tear Us Apart Again"...my fav :).

  • the killers are very bog standard but joy division are something else

    AMAZING

  • good song i can relate to it . i hope you kill yourself.

  • LooL I dont want to hurt anyone feelings... but i think that The Killers version is one of the faggest things ive ever heart!! Sorry but is just fuckin oufle!

  • Can I nominate you for president?

  • any time i feel self concious about my dancing i watch my boy Ian and say fuck it - let it rip

  • haha brilliant self-reverential comment LMAO!

  • this song among other jd songs seems to be a window of what was to come in certain genres of music.."to the center of the city in the night waiting for you" paints such a vivid picture in my mind

  • Niceee you understand JD in a great way... I admire that... JD BEST!

  • ian curtis was the second jim morrison

    glen danzig is third

  • He wasnt using drugs at this time.

  • He wrote such brilliant lyrics wanker-Jackie Boy

  • That's a very petty and juvenile thing to say.

Why don't you let your balls drop, then come back.

  • If I could only find "insight" video

    my favorite jd song ever!

  • if i could only dance like ian curtis...

  • epic

  • INMENSOS!!! GRANDES!! ÚNICOS!!

  • Leaders of Men and Wilderness?! Wow how alternative of you. Only a true jd fan would favor such obscure, less recognised songs. I agree Love Will tear us apart may not be their best song but it's far better than those two. They are comparatively dull to songs like Disorder.

  • the killers version of shadow play has over a million views. the highest by joy division has not even half a million.

there is no justice in the world.

  • The Killers version is really good but not as good as this one.

  • Years ago, I bought 2 books about Joy Dision (An Ideal for Living - not the record, which I own; the other book is a photocopied fanzine (coz that was the technology for fanzines back then). An Ideal for Living is a history of the band from the perspective of their gigs, what was happening, etc. with tons of great photos. I knew it was a great purchase.

Their music is as relevant now, as it was then.

IMHO, Love Will Tear Us Apart is not their best tune. Leaders of Men & Wilderness!!!

  • I personally believe that both version's are good. I mean this version is amazing because it's the orginal and nothing beats that, but the singing is a little 'meh'. The Killers on the other hand did a great job with the vocals and it wasn't a bad cover all together.

Anyways, I love this song so much. Joy Division<3

  • i cant beleive the killers would even try to play a song like this. this is totally not what they are about. if you have seen control that movie about joy division or read up about the band you would know what type of band they were.. and for the killers to think they are in the same catagory is absurd.. ian curtis is one of my idols and i think he would awaken from the grave just to laugh in the killers face.

  • Thats exactly what I said. Like I guess if Joy Division had never existed (I dont even wanna imagine that but lets say it were the case) and the Killers made Shadowplay and it wasnt a cover, I would respect it but Shadowplay is one dark fucking song with deep meaning, it wasnt meant to be a pop song thats all happy with Woo hoo hoo's in it, it defeats the whole purpose and is an insult if anything. All the teeny boppers love the Killer's version and think its an original.

  • HAHAHAHAHA the killers lmao!!!!!

this is the one and only!

  • the killers cover was a fantastic cover

  • whoever allowed The Killers to go near this song deserves shooting

  • I like this version but I have to say I prefer The Killers version and yeah you may say I'm biased as The Killers are my favourite band but I have listened to this song quite alot and gave it a chance and I just don't think its as good to be honest, and I normally prefer originals. I think its good that The Killers are introducing the older artists and bands to a younger audience who had never heard of these bands before though.

  • it's hard to say that an original is not as good as the cover, i mean, they CREATED THE SONG. to redo it 25+ years later with loads of money and glossy production so that it becomes safe for 21st century ears doesn't amount to much.

  • killers suck and they shouldnt have covered this song

  • its just his voice, he put his all into every song he sang.

  • u r dumb haha

  • ian is a great dancer

  • I like this better than the Killers one, but that one is still pretty good!

  • killers..LOL

actually it is nice to see the new bands remembering were it all came from..

  • the Killers quite good but Joy Division are the(were) the Best!!!

  • haha good one.

  • you're drunk.

  • I guess you were not around when the original was made, right? "Turning this into a listenable song"...huwah...

  • You are such a fucking moron.

  • ge

    ni

    us

  • indeed

  • Me mata Bernard tocando...

No puedo resistirme a ver este video dia tras dia...

  • Fucking rocking

  • i love this band, was great

poor ian curtir a great singer,

  • beautiful.... makes me sad in a way for losing ian

  • One of the best songs of the 80's

  • kinda hard mate considering it was produced in 1978!

  • You're right, my mistake. Maybe because i'm somewhat younger i never heard it before 1981.

In my mind it was eighties.

  • You're right, my mistake.

  • los emos no tienen padre ni procedencia , son un aborto del mundo .Por favor antes de hacer un comentario acerca de Joy Division informate un poco , no mezcles la mierda con la miel

  • Deja en paz a los emos, no seas un aborto tu también

  • Ian Curtis is fucking brilliant dancer.

  • Joy Division, The Killers, Interpol, rockss they r the best¬¬

sin the cure no ai blink

sin u2 imaginate q no ai...

i sin david bowie iggy pop i velvet underground no ai joy division ! =x

asi q asta cierto punto c lo debemos al metrosexual d bowie haha

  • this is a great song/live performance!!!

  • i personally like both songs. killers rockk so i don't care what anybody says...

    PEACE.

    <33

  • They sure don't make 'em like they used to!

  • killers and all this new wave of 2000's shit indie (franz ferdinand, arctic monkeys) are just rip-offs. it's shit comparing to this art. this is music because they created this music, not those who copy it now for greater amount of money.

  • Most of those guys aren't like Joy Divison. Interpol and the Killers are the ones that kind of copy this style and more than copy they just make a tribute to one of the bands that most influenced alt rock.

  • because of their lack of competency, they could not create anything new, but to "tribute". it's lame excuse. depeche mode bauhaus and cure are those who gave tribute to them, but they made their own revolutions. forget interpol and killers...

  • the shadowplay cover was great and they make plenty of songs but there newsest album was full of remixes and bsides, evry artist needs a break, odviously joy division isnt makin any new songs the killers are great and so are joy division

  • Ehm, Ian Curtis is dead, so they will not de making albums anymore.

  • Dont mess with Interpol!! Their stuff may sound like Joy Division, but they rock for their own talent.

  • Dont mess with Interpol!! Their stuff may sound like Joy Division, but they rock for their own talent.

  • Amazing!

The Studio version is awesome... it reminds Jim Morrison.

  • I've just watched the movie CONTROL- it's fucking great- Ian Curtis and Joy Division were a very important band in the history of music- as for U2/Killers covers well it's only a mark of respect for great art-tonight Ian rest in peace- never to be forgotten...

  • Ian's dancing is so cool.

  • Stunning footage!!! Thanx for the post!

  • the killers have total admiration 4 JD. admit that they're both awsome,

yes they are different so stop the fan feud, with the dissing n whatnot.

TK shadowplay cover = well fuckin done!

  • is'nt it funny how some people dont see the importance and creativity of the greatest bands :)

  • Well it's largely because most of the people in society are remote controlled slaves and will only listen and like what their corporate masters tell them to via radio or TV. Only a few people can break from that mold and seek out true artist to enjoy such as Joy Division. Being independent of thought allows us to discover some truly great music.

  • oh my god that was literally the best thing I've heard someone ever say.

  • Same here!

  • Thank you ravenouspigeon : ) I am honored. As a musician and song writer myself, I respect all music and can appreciate when people open up and just try to at least listen to what other music is out there.

  • fuck yeah! i agree with the dude below me. fuck the faggot ass killers

  • I like both the killers and Joy Division, i obiously like Joy Division wayyy bette rthan them but the killers still have some really good music.

  • Lol, funny comments XD Joy Division owns man, period. If you don't like em stfu, btw...great tune.

  • To all those that compare and dislike this band, why come here? Go listen to your emo music.

  • joy division were fucking brilliant

    go watch CONTROL everyone

  • All you people saying that killers are better than joy division must do some fuckin research and find out what Joy Division represents. By the way: you all know the name "killers" came after a New Orders video right? (new order is the band that the members of joy division formed after Ians death)

  • fukkin wow i didnt kno killers coverd this song i loved it the second i heard it! but im juss discovering these guyz for the 1st time im likin what i hear though

  • first jim morrison then this guy but mr cobain tried and might have left more of a mark but my fav is ston temple pilots. but my oppinion is way out there i know.

  • hey its cool, its your own ya know. early punk music is either somethin u like or dont like. its so diff. these days, but thanks to bands like joy division, alot of the music today is where its at. you make one thing clear though...all great bands and great music! stp fan huh? i was too. where do u stand on velvet revolver?

  • To be honest, i think that Paul Banks of interpol would have done this song 10 fold justice as a cover compared to Brandon Flowers of the killers. Brandon just winds it up too much. pauls voice just holds that dark and nostalgic influence somewhat comparable to that of Ian Curtis, plus the bands experience on this particular genre of music ranks high & is unsurpassed by any other post-punk revival band out there right now....lol but yeah, it would have sounded better!

  • Theres no point for a poll bro. the killers are so far away from a comparison to this caliber of band, it's insane. yeah they remade it and honored joy division, (wasnt too bad) but thats a cover, JD was pioneering. They were their own & paved the way for countless post punk bands. i honestly dont like it better than JD's, but long story short. no contest, anyone who just votes killers w/out second guessing needs to brush up on their music history. not hating, just saying.

  • Very well said Cronominite~

"Pioneer" is exactly the term for JD.

  • Be a part of my fancy poll:

  • Ahhhh, this is so good, this sounds great. The Killers are so much weaker!

If you disagree vote this comment as a poor one.

  • dude what the fuck, just enjoy it, and stop makin stupid polls !!

  • those who said killers are better then joy division clearly dont no jack all bout music

  • why? If you like the killers and dislike Joy division, you're dumb? So if you don't like Robert Johnson, you probably dislike rock & blues?? Damn you're dumb

  • the killers were influenced by many bands including joy divison.

  • the killer are a band 'cause of JOy Division!!

  • Thank you, you are absolutely correct!!!

There would be no killers if it wasn't for Joy Divison

  • You cant say that on account of there being more than just that band to be influenced by...

if so what would you say about joy division???

some band(s) influenced them not just 1 nor themselves to get started

  • did you mean my comment bro?

  • I thinks the killers loves joy division and i know they love new order

  • I think they do like Joy Division. They were very much influenced by New Order (hell, they're name even comes from a fictional band from a New Order video) and New Order is three fourths of Joy Division so I'd say to a degree, yes they do like Joy Division.

  • where do you know if they like or not JD ?

  • Both versions are good in their way, you've got to be open. And give me a break about the Killers, your all just lamebrains, name all the covers they've done numbnuts. God. Get over it, covers are to show how much they like a certain band that came before them, not to put that band down. The Rolling Stone were a glorified cover band early on, still are in a way.

  • I always liked Joy Division's covers. Only playable one was by the Furs

  • do you mean they're a good tribute band?

  • That guy's got some sick dance moves. Impressive.

  • lmfao

  • anyone who thinks the killers cover is better is a jackoff its a fucking cover u obviously dont understand joy division!!!

  • dude chill its obvious you dont understand people are entitled to their own opinions, i like both versions in their unique ways, try to look at it from more of an artistic view rather than being a ignorant biased ass

  • I think the killers cover is better

  • the killers are great cover artists - bit like spandau ballet

  • i think you sum the killers up - 'cover' - i prefer bands who are original - joy division back in the seventies - that's right 30 years ago, can you imagine the killers having a film made about them 30 years from now..... i don' t think so

  • depends if the lead singer of the killers dies in some salacious manner.

  • how can you beat an original artist? name one?

  • Mad World- Gary Jules

(its a cover of Tears for fears)

thats how you can beat an orginal.

however for this song, i have no arguement either way for which i like better.

  • sorry, I think the original mad world had life to it, the gary jules one made you want to do am Ian Curtis

  • 99 Redballoons-Goldfinger.

their cover is much better than Nena's original.

And the killers are not a cover band. Most of their music is their own and they are a great band.

  • the original version was in german, so they were covering a cover

  • with a crowbar? that's one way to beat an original artist. hells bells you could really beat anyone with a crowbar not just an original artist.

  • Sex Pistols ? But I agree JD were pioneers

  • A perfect example of a better cover is "Hurt" originally done by NIN then Johnny Cash did a cover that blew everyone away especially Trent Reznor who bowed down in defeat because what Cash did was made it his own with all his emotions, not borrowed from Reznor, where many covers fail..

I like both Joy Division and the Killers which ironically took a name from a New Order video, they will always be less and they know it and don't care.

  • joy division version is so deep and personal the killers version is cute

  • the killers did a cover version - don't you hate bands that do covers? reminds me of linda ronstadt or celine dione

  • Just listened to new cd of killers, only tranquilize and this song are good, the rest sucks... FUCKERS

  • jd version is great and i agree they are the base of most bands becaues ther had beats but this versionis a little flat i like the killers versiona little better but i still like this one... i mean come one, its joy division

  • joy division r the best band ever...they where WAYYYYYYYY b4 there time its crazy, countless bands admire and copy them in some way, as for the killers things dnt make me laugh of corse ppl knew this song...read a book mate:),i like the killers but there version was crap..had no soul,i love the bit when hes singin "dance" like a mad man and there just standing there, joy divsion r the bases for ALOT of modern bands in some way..

  • killers my arse.the only great manipulation of this particular sound was stone roses i wanna be adored.rip ian.one of the greatest templates for last 3 decades

  • this to all the wannabe music fans that like the killers, F**** you, you have no taste in music and are all a bunch of idiots

  • what a bunch of nerds, this prolly didn't have any views until the killers covered it LLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLZZZZZZ

  • A lot of more fans before the killers. This is an college outfit 1978 what there whering...

  • work of art. excuse you A FUCKING WORK OF WORK..

  • absolutely right, dude, it IS art! absolute perfection

  • Ian...I love u so

  • i like both this version and the killer's version. i like the different perspectives on the song

  • ian curtis dancing is to be reckoned with

  • OK, I understand that the Killers fans will always like the cover better, but please don't call it a version. The song was written, recorded, played live, and perfected by Joy Division. Just because a band like the Killers wants their Indie hipster cred back, doesn't mean they can destroy this timeless classic.
