Great video first off. Second from listening to the Pharmaceutical guy we will lovingly call him BIG PHARMA. It seems just so simple to me do you want your mind to be a stagnant pool never moving never changing being of the same mind as every one around you all of the time? Or would you have it more like a flowing river ever moving ever changing full of life? Again the answer is quite simple to me. this was a nice change from the blithering idiots you see smoking way to much all over youtube.
It seems kind of silly for these eggheads to pontificate on what it's all about without actually using it. How much can they really know? The guy who's putting it down really needs to smoke it. He'll see his reality wiped away. Then his reality will be rebuilt with clearer perception without all the illusion.
john is an asshole. how would salvia be a poison to society? it would help people understand each other and live together more freely. He's making it seem like a negative thing whereas it could be a totally mind opening tool for everybody.
I have euphoric happy experiences with salvia like they did in this film. I think one of the reasons why its so scary to some people is because they refuse to think of it in a new way like this one scientist is doing. He thinks he knows what its all about but I bet if he tried salvia it would kick his ass for being so ignorant!
What a sad little video! I've only had one psychedelic experience on Salvia, and only two in my life, and I can tell you that these so-called experts have completely missed the Salvia experience. I am very surprised that Mr. Siebert, who knows this very well, did not point it out to them during the discussions. Anyone watching this video who has not taken S.D. will think that it is a complete waste of time, and probably reckless. It only took me one experience to realize how special Salvia is.
If anyone has a clearer insight regarding what i have just explained as my understanding of this seemingly majestic plant i would be apperciative if you can give me some added perspective. Or just let me know if my understanding bears no resemelance to what you have experianced from using saliva. Peace!
My understanding from what i have research about salvia is that it takes the users consiousness temporerily to a seperate dimension within the universe that we persieve as the matter we can sence. I have not tried salvia yet but i think when i am ready i will try it so i can have this trip into one of what i think is 1 of a possibly infininate number of dimensions and hopefully even gain an added perspective on the dimension i persieve from day to day.
Thank you for posting this, I saw it years ago when it first appeared on TV. It piqued my interest and now Salvia is probably one of the important things I have ever done.

true.. even weed is too strong for me sometimes... just yesterday in fact.. i took a very large amount of it while in the forest and i had a very illusioned experience.. i felt that the trees were locking me in to the ground, which was good because i was connecting with the universe, but still kind of frightening.. and the surface where i was sitting felt as if it was sinking below the rest of the land around me, and i was sinking to the bottom of the universe
i also felt that i was outside of myself, watching my self, while being watched by that entity that was me watching myself at the same time. and both of us were questioning if my existence was about to come to an end.. then as i walked home i expressed a great amount of appreciation for nature... it liked it, yet i was frightened and kinda wanted to leave during the experience... i usually get bigger effects than a lot of stoners cuz i keep a low tolerance
Sorry but these idiots don't know what they're talking about. They should have a high-dose experience themselves and THEN make judgments and comment. At high dose's Salvia takes you to the 'true' reality for a short while. I know as I, and many others have been there. And experience the same thing.
all in all, it probably comes down to the individual and their own ability to imagine and percieve. i felt as if i had gained some knowledge i hadn't previously imagined, though. i'm not sure what to attribute that to.
hmm i hoped for more from this documentary. i guess by it's quality and their lack of understanding that it is quite old, though.
they seemed to have failry light experiences. i've only smoked salvia twice. the first time i felt nearly nothing. but the second time i felt as if i left reality entirely. visually, i was in a place that didn't even make physical sense for awhile. that part didn't last long. soon enough the sky peeled away in layers and all was being sucked into a black hole. O-o
The Reason Plants and natural cures have been eradicated from "Society" is that they stop Churches and govenrments from instilling fear into peoplle who have a Life outside fear
They seem to think Salvia Divinorum gives 100% benefitial and pleasurable benefits, but if you take this drug under an anxious or scared state of mind....and take a strong dose....then trust me....you will NEVER want to do any hallucinogen again. Doctor John was correct in saying there needs to be extensive testing into this drug, to truelly discover the pros and cons, but I felt the other doctors described and explained the experiences much more accurately.
What do you guys think of a center which would make it safe for people to legally experiment with hallucinogens? A building with peaceful, quiet rooms or areas with gardens & professionals who are trained to help you out if needed. Much like this video. So a person would go there if they wanted to consume a hallucinogen and stay for the entirety of the experience & be free to do whatever they wished. This way, they wouldn't be endangering others, they would be in a peaceful enclosure. Opinions?
Yes, id fully support this idea. furthermore. people could conduct experiments and test there. map brain functions, study and document effects of substances in more detail. much like what dr rick strassman suggested at the end of his book "DMT: the spirit molecule"
though if you didnt participate in the studies or test then you would need to donate money for the substances you use, and provide feedback on every experience. there could be numerous clinics around the wordl. placed in peacful envr
indeed. small insights also can be big. I never was able to dance freely in society due to childhood. I took salvia (when it was legal) and met a side of me that was alien to me in a positive way and it told me that I in fact want to dance. I went into the dancehall about half a year later on with this memory luring all the time and rocked the goddamn dancefloor until the morning. I wonder what I could understand with it ! but now, its banned. lucky me I experienced it before. legal.
Warning!!!! I try saliva 15X at the age of 26. I had a minor stroke. Ever since the left side of my brain hurts. Over a year period it developed into muscles twitches short memory loss. I had MIR done last week. Be careful don't mess up ur life
To Kanistor22 message. Yeah I agree with you on some points that yeah salvia and other psychedelics are hallucinogens and so they will twist and exagerate feelings and foughts, however just because it does this it does not mean that benefits can not be accomplished from its use. Psychedelics were used in the 60's to treat various psychological traumas and other issues since they also put you in touch with the various layers of your conciousness which you obviously dont believe exists in us.
Is not a problem of science, is a problem of culture. From classic period until now the lost, in many ways, of control is seen like something bad. That's because people dont understand and is afraid about those things. But this fear is mostly ignorance.
This is exactly the same with cannabis, psilocybes, peyotes, ecc. They are terrified to find what's in our deep soul, the true meaning of a psychedelic experience.
John, wonder how hard you would be on Eli lilly - all they do is make drugs that mess with the brain. lol [scientist my foot, he didnt want to truly evaluate the possibilities, he was already predisposed to an opinion... not to scientific.]
Maybe better, now the drugindustry wont be interested to go deaper into this material anyway, they donnot see the value of 'halucination' but only their intrest and risks (moneywise).
If this experiment would take place in the proper setting (ancient ritual with a shaman), the impact and outcome would be completely diferent and the evaluation would be the right one.
You cannot use this in a western environment with only scientists without the real masters/shamans and make a statement of the impact.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dont go buy salvia plant that shit is evil people are gettin shit confused with dmt...dmt is the food of the gods ....DMT the most powerful naturally occuring psychadellic known to man...salvia sucks!!
I encourage everyone to buy cuttings of Salvia and grow it at your home, learn how to propagate plants (that is when you cut a piece off and clone the plant.. it's rather easy) Salvia will become illegal by unlawful laws which take away ones right to religious freedom. It is happening in all states! Anyone who appreciates this plant please buy a plant and take good care of it! If they try to take it from you sue them for infringement on your religious rights (Assuming you use it for that)
throughout this entire thing Ive noticed the woman constantly calls salvia "euphoric" and "pleasurable".
It is not.
I have laughed, and watched other people laugh, on it.......but it is not a normal laughter. It is extremely dissociative. The first time I brokethrough, it was more like DYSphoria. I felt like I was in hell, and destined to repeat the same repeating experience I was having over and over for eternity.
exactly, i laughed at the begining of the trip, but i didnt even remember i would laugh at all. It was like i woke up from a familiar dream and the world completly changed
yeah i felt like i was in hell too being torn to peaces in a sort of black hole. i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. and it made me feel very small and powerless.
Plants don't create toxins, they develop them, over hundreds of years, if consumption is a threat. (With rare exceptions for those never eaten, which are toxic.)
Plants also develop desired effects, when that promotes existence. These plants rarely seed, and they exist because we farmed them for this quality. We pruned the leaves, and protected them.
Go back to the KGB or join Hitler, you Nazi! Keep your "Perception", out of my head.
He admitted, he formed his "Opinion", before he was even invited. "I don't believe there is anything more than the nuts and bolts which form our cosmos"...
Amazingly, he was still there, so that is a lie, or he would not have shown. His presence was that of finding new perception. Finding "Something else".
He continues to believe his brain is "Normal", and his "Perception", is our perception.
Nothing makes you see things that are not there. They divert your sight into your mind. Dreams.
I dont think our culture will never accept anything that gives alternative views of reality where people might not be "productive" because currently our value is seen as what we can produce. A banker for example would hate to see alot of people stop getting loans for large house and be content.
i think this video would be about 2.10mins if this sturring tw*t would speaking properly. geez!! ii i i i if ww weee we were g g go going to legalise.
what? ur so far from comprehending what im saying that it makes ur username seem best fit..
forget about racial genocide cuz its out of our hands, what these brainwashed ill-knowledged scientists are saying makes me wanna hang ur flag upside down...uv been around for maybe 200 years and all your gain comes from european/asian/n southamerican influence..look how long we've been around for and then look at what disasters ur ignorant society has caused earth in the mere fraction uv been around for.
preaching to the choir. that guy is a total tool bag. The map is not the terrain, he has his own lens that he sees reality through, and he is too hard headed to see that everyones lens is different, and that his might not be the clearest.
ur so right dude....the effects of salvia are based on internal thoguht and feeling as well as external stimuli and environment--in which case every1 is gonna react differently....there is no controlled testing for salvia and the results are gonna always be variable--fuck these guys, they work solemnly by logic
@GroundChuk You are so right. Note that he is right, though, about his idea of not trying salvia, because with such certainties in mind, he might very well experience the "most terrifying experience of my life" type of the plant lesson.
Funny how some dude who has never done something is somehow an expert. Idiots like this is what keep humans back from exploration. He probably still doesn't know that human females can have orgasms. How sad.
ramdum control of goverment understanding needs to be implemented. and they (gov't) doesn't believe in scared cultural values, imagine if they they actually understand aborignal knowledge!!! Wow, but, no way! they always will take the short and easy way out, and just say NO indians don't know nothing!
The western scientific approach still amazes me. I understand it, but it's like these scientist are licking the outside of the honey jar trying to discover what honey tastes like. What ever happened to bold explorers. They look like fearful curious monkeys pocking at something to understand it.
thozz monkeyzz in suitz r some ignorant monkeyz in thizz vidz xD thizz economy have more negative things than positive. Far awayy from Healthy Living and then they say naturez gift izz bad and give it a bad scene. we r nature know it
it's pleasurable at the dosis that they administered, at higher concentrated dosis, the experience would become not so pleasurable. Plus, these researchers all seem to be atheist and non-spiritualists, they should of had an educated shaman or mystic as one of the "researchers". these scientists are constrained by the fact that they view the world in a purely scientific way.
I think it's funny how the pharmacologist constantly calls its pleasurable and says that's its only use. Salvia's not even that pleasurable. At least, it's not like cocaine or something that guarantees instant euphoria. The approach behind this documentary is interesting, but these guys shouldn't be allowed to talk about it as they do without having tried it themselves. The not-so-educated test subjects have infinitely more experience with Salvia than they do.
fucking please.. thats just another way of saying let someone do the thinking for you. people need to learn how to think deeper and vaster. then you just do the shit and analyze/incorporate the messages/visions over a period of time. you only need a physician if your one of those dumbasses in the videos laughing and confused, just smoking it for entertainment..
conclusion: Terrence Mckenna needed to attend this experiment and argument. it is profound that the scientists all collectively agreed, except the one patriot, that it is a positive plant.
Wow. After all that, the science-based atheist has to put forth regurgitated rhetoric and rejection of any reality not his own. A classic example of someone stuck in their own reality tunnel.
I believe that much of what they question, at least here, could be gleaned, raw and yet refined, from the short psychosis of one subject reeling from a bad trip. They may try administering to a manic depressive for eg.
PT3: If the latter is in fact wrong, how do you take into account things like the Great Pyramids, which Modern Technology cannot produce today with machines-- or why we cant match the Mathamatics of the Mayans who's calendars are more accurate then our modern ones. I just feel there is a double standard.
PT2: Western culture only defines the indigenous by their "limited" skill sets and impoverished exterior. Keep in mind we in the Western World live too FAST to slow down and make keen observations. While indigenous people live much SLOWER and were able to make incredibly insightful observations. Math, numbers and electronics cannot be substituted for HUMAN PERCEPTION.
PT 1: I would just like to say, as a descendant of Native American (Apache) people, I feel a little disrespected in regards to Western Idiologies and culture. Indigenious people have been the forbearers of socially conscious and environmental issues before the term, "Green" or "Environmentalist" was coined. I wish people would listen to indigenous cultures MORE.
exactly he took around two puffs, spaced like two minutes apart. you need to smoke it by taking deep inhalations and holding it in for 30 sec. I f he did that he would have left are dimension and probably been dumped in a hellhole. ''Mild recreational tool... used in a clinical way to help people'' id love to see that.
those people dont know what they are talking about by the explinations of those 2 peoples salvia trip. the inexperienced guy didnt smoke it right anyway.
Thats a very good technique, although I dont like smoking much I get a similar easing in, longer experience by using a tincture, although it takes quite a lot to get visions since iv'e got some resistance to Salvia's effect.
Well, I'm well used to my Bong (waterpipe), so the first try was with that. I've put a few dried leaves into it, holding it in for 30 secs, and right after I exhaled I felt a very intense 'cribbling' starting from the fingers going through my entire body. then I saw the room i was sitting in 'floating', a wave like on the ocean was rolling over it and over me. I've felt how the wave hit me and was falling into an awesome hallucination inspired by the music I was hearing.
part 2: after that i smoked it with a normal pipe. I wouldn't reccomend this method for an unexperienced smoker. I for myself smoke weed nearly every day, so it wasn't a problem for me. the high I was experiencing was different, slightlier. but also pleasuring for me.
Exactly set aside from other drugs Entheogens absolutely must be used responsibly, not coz of no overdose issues but more because it takes you out of consensus reality allowing you to experience new ideas, thoughts and places which can be overwhelming and scary to people not acknowledging its true purpose.
I was sitting on a terras in a bizzy city."It's trippy"the guy explaned and being used to pot i took a big hit, inhaled deep. The Trip came like a tsunami from the far end of the street and seemed to sweep everything into an lego-like abstraction. The wave hits me and i am pulled inside out and hung upside down looking into this bizare space.Interesting i thought It reversed itself and i was back "well thanks a lot there buddy" i told the dude with a slight headache.
Dats so true, you sound like a very responsible person. People think its such a social drug taking it in lARGE GROUPS, IN WRONG SET/SETTING. In those conditions Salvia will only bring harm to users. I personally prefer to use a quality Salvia tincture which gives a smoother more understanding trip. And always use good set/setting.
Do you use Salvia, and whats your prefered method?
1st off: I think this documentary is worth watching and well done.
I spent some hours now watching a lot of youtube videos about salvia. something like 97% are from people not knowing anything about it and consuming in it bad ways and settings. but I found a few pearls.. they are in my favorites if anyone cares.
also i recommend the 'Users Guide' on the website sagewisdom DOT org
(sorry about 'DOT' but utube won't let me post the url)
you can't generalize a drugs effects. the problem with "drugs" is that the majority of society are bumbling, dribbling, irresponsible idiots, and when combined with a sacred mind altering plant, the result will be none the less bumbling, drbbling, and irresponsible. Generalizing is bad, because there are intelligent people out here who have responsibility coded into their genes, and really don't need regulations dictated to them.
i have no idea how many times iv'e used SaDi, if i had to guess, i'd say..100... i hear alot about extracts, especially among those who abuse it.. i tend to prefer pure leaf.. i'll fill a tobacco pipe, and smoke it slowly and relaxed.. this will gradually increase the strength to my liking, gently easing me in, not forcing..this is when ive had my most memorable mind-blowing experiences in other places, and ive been able to make the journey much longer this way..
though sometimes i take one hit of leaf and meditate, ive used many methods, figured id share my favorite, i urge you to experiment though, remember, man has only really been smoking this plant for a few decades, we dont know it all
So you're saying that the Mazatec Indians of Mexico were not men?
This is the problem with this, and other, drugs; complete, uninformed idiots are abusing them and ruining it for the rest of us. Do you see all these videos here of these morons taking 5 hits of 50x extract and then posting the video of themselves looking like nonfunctional retards? No wonder this drug will be illegal in a few years.
No, I was referring to the fact that they would (and still) crush the leaves creating a tea, if you will. The concept of smoking the plant matter is rather new, and if this method was used there is very little information on it. As far as smoking goes, experiment with many ways, it seems most people assume the best and only way is to pack a bowl with the strongest extract they can find to attempt to get fucked up.
Very interesting; thanks for posting. I'm glad there's at least one salvia video on youtube that isn't about getting fucked up. Salvia is a very powerful drug, and if people keep taking it lightly it will soon become illegal.
john your a dic. typical left brain bullshit. his mind is very shut down and in ignorance. i feel sorry for him how he looks at the world.

all in all, it probably comes down to the individual and their own ability to imagine and percieve. i felt as if i had gained some knowledge i hadn't previously imagined, though. i'm not sure what to attribute that to.
sixstringdealey 2 years ago
hmm i hoped for more from this documentary. i guess by it's quality and their lack of understanding that it is quite old, though.
they seemed to have failry light experiences. i've only smoked salvia twice. the first time i felt nearly nothing. but the second time i felt as if i left reality entirely. visually, i was in a place that didn't even make physical sense for awhile. that part didn't last long. soon enough the sky peeled away in layers and all was being sucked into a black hole. O-o

They seem to think Salvia Divinorum gives 100% benefitial and pleasurable benefits, but if you take this drug under an anxious or scared state of mind....and take a strong dose....then trust me....you will NEVER want to do any hallucinogen again. Doctor John was correct in saying there needs to be extensive testing into this drug, to truelly discover the pros and cons, but I felt the other doctors described and explained the experiences much more accurately.
drangboon 2 years ago
What do you guys think of a center which would make it safe for people to legally experiment with hallucinogens? A building with peaceful, quiet rooms or areas with gardens & professionals who are trained to help you out if needed. Much like this video. So a person would go there if they wanted to consume a hallucinogen and stay for the entirety of the experience & be free to do whatever they wished. This way, they wouldn't be endangering others, they would be in a peaceful enclosure. Opinions?

I'd like to be the first to sign on!

It has given me great insights.
People need to realise that the human mind can abuse anything - food, sex, tobacco, alcohol & drugs.
The approach taken is more important than the type of 'drug'.
Native Americans said, 'The white man has taken away the soul of tobacco.'
Just like they've taken the soul out of everything else!!!
19grand 2 years ago 6
indeed. small insights also can be big. I wonder what I could understand with it ! but now, its banned. lucky me I experienced it before. legal.

If this experiment would take place in the proper setting (ancient ritual with a shaman), the impact and outcome would be completely diferent and the evaluation would be the right one.
You cannot use this in a western environment with only scientists without the real masters/shamans and make a statement of the impact.
Conclusion wrong setting & wrong place.

Euphoric!

The guy with the goatee, needs to take it.

I dont think our culture will never accept anything that gives alternative views of reality where people might not be "productive" because currently our value is seen as what we can produce. A banker for example would hate to see alot of people stop getting loans for large house and be content.

it's pleasurable at the dosis that they administered, at higher concentrated dosis, the experience would become not so pleasurable.

PT3: If the latter is in fact wrong, how do you take into account things like the Great Pyramids, which Modern Technology cannot produce today with machines-- or why we cant match the Mathamatics of the Mayans who's calendars are more accurate then our modern ones. I just feel there is a double standard.
greytiger 4 years ago 2
PT2: Western culture only defines the indigenous by their "limited" skill sets and impoverished exterior. Keep in mind we in the Western World live too FAST to slow down and make keen observations. While indigenous people live much SLOWER and were able to make incredibly insightful observations. Math, numbers and electronics cannot be substituted for HUMAN PERCEPTION.

I wish people would listen to indigenous cultures MORE.

jasonguyperson 4 years ago
Thats a very good technique, although I dont like smoking much I get a similar easing in, longer experience by using a tincture, although it takes quite a lot to get visions since iv'e got some resistance to Salvia's effect.
Micwool 4 years ago
So how did you use it youwerethere23, did you smoke an extract, I generally try to stick to tincture because the experience is more insightful.
Micwool 4 years ago
Well, I'm well used to my Bong (waterpipe), so the first try was with that. I've put a few dried leaves into it, holding it in for 30 secs, and right after I exhaled I felt a very intense 'cribbling' starting from the fingers going through my entire body. then I saw the room i was sitting in 'floating', a wave like on the ocean was rolling over it and over me. I've felt how the wave hit me and was falling into an awesome hallucination inspired by the music I was hearing.
youwerethere23 4 years ago
part 2: after that i smoked it with a normal pipe. I wouldn't reccomend this method for an unexperienced smoker. I for myself smoke weed nearly every day, so it wasn't a problem for me. the high I was experiencing was different, slightlier. but also pleasuring for me.
youwerethere23 4 years ago
Exactly set aside from other drugs Entheogens absolutely must be used responsibly, not coz of no overdose issues but more because it takes you out of consensus reality allowing you to experience new ideas, thoughts and places which can be overwhelming and scary to people not acknowledging its true purpose.
Micwool 4 years ago
Totaly agree. Here my exp.
I was sitting on a terras in a bizzy city."It's trippy"the guy explaned and being used to pot i took a big hit, inhaled deep. The Trip came like a tsunami from the far end of the street and seemed to sweep everything into an lego-like abstraction. The wave hits me and i am pulled inside out and hung upside down looking into this bizare space.Interesting i thought It reversed itself and i was back "well thanks a lot there buddy" i told the dude with a slight headache.
sambalbei 3 years ago
Dats so true, you sound like a very responsible person. People think its such a social drug taking it in lARGE GROUPS, IN WRONG SET/SETTING. In those conditions Salvia will only bring harm to users. I personally prefer to use a quality Salvia tincture which gives a smoother more understanding trip. And always use good set/setting.
Do you use Salvia, and whats your prefered method?
Micwool 4 years ago
1st off: I think this documentary is worth watching and well done.
I spent some hours now watching a lot of youtube videos about salvia. something like 97% are from people not knowing anything about it and consuming in it bad ways and settings. but I found a few pearls.. they are in my favorites if anyone cares.
also i recommend the 'Users Guide' on the website sagewisdom DOT org
(sorry about 'DOT' but utube won't let me post the url)
youwerethere23 4 years ago
I myself have used salvia two times now, and I informed me before I did. It was a very intense experience for me. unlike any other drugs.
youwerethere23 4 years ago
you can't generalize a drugs effects. the problem with "drugs" is that the majority of society are bumbling, dribbling, irresponsible idiots, and when combined with a sacred mind altering plant, the result will be none the less bumbling, drbbling, and irresponsible. Generalizing is bad, because there are intelligent people out here who have responsibility coded into their genes, and really don't need regulations dictated to them.
ccosborn 4 years ago 4
i have no idea how many times iv'e used SaDi, if i had to guess, i'd say..100... i hear alot about extracts, especially among those who abuse it.. i tend to prefer pure leaf.. i'll fill a tobacco pipe, and smoke it slowly and relaxed.. this will gradually increase the strength to my liking, gently easing me in, not forcing..this is when ive had my most memorable mind-blowing experiences in other places, and ive been able to make the journey much longer this way..
iampenguinpowered 4 years ago
though sometimes i take one hit of leaf and meditate, ive used many methods, figured id share my favorite, i urge you to experiment though, remember, man has only really been smoking this plant for a few decades, we dont know it all
iampenguinpowered 4 years ago
So you're saying that the Mazatec Indians of Mexico were not men?
This is the problem with this, and other, drugs; complete, uninformed idiots are abusing them and ruining it for the rest of us. Do you see all these videos here of these morons taking 5 hits of 50x extract and then posting the video of themselves looking like nonfunctional retards? No wonder this drug will be illegal in a few years.
hellmuth26 4 years ago
No, I was referring to the fact that they would (and still) crush the leaves creating a tea, if you will. The concept of smoking the plant matter is rather new, and if this method was used there is very little information on it. As far as smoking goes, experiment with many ways, it seems most people assume the best and only way is to pack a bowl with the strongest extract they can find to attempt to get fucked up.
iampenguinpowered 4 years ago
And as far as its legal status, the last time a checked it was illegal in 4 or 5 US states and a few countries around the globe.
iampenguinpowered 4 years ago
Very interesting; thanks for posting. I'm glad there's at least one salvia video on youtube that isn't about getting fucked up. Salvia is a very powerful drug, and if people keep taking it lightly it will soon become illegal.
