for some reason no one believes the scientists and biologists who have officially stated that it would make no sense for elephants to get drunk from this fruit. they would have to eat so much, plus they don't eat rotten ones off the ground when they can just push over or shake a tree. obviously the marula reference was just a way to bring more hits to this video, but he is right... this myth was debunked years ago... just search around for a few minutes if you care to see.
The former video says it (the marula fruit) has to be over ripe and fermented and at a certain peak time in summer. Your focus was on the elephants and how they communicate. Just hope u get things done clear next time. "DEBUNK" is a strong word that needs clear proof.
Perhaps the missing link here Mr. Pieter is that your camera miss to capture wheter the marula tree has ripe fruits at that time you took your video to make it really interesting and more credible. You just focus on the elephants and no one knows if that tree base shown was to that of a marula tree or not. U even failed to show either just the crown of the tree.
he is wrong they do produce alcohol and its not just marula fruit that do it, elephants have also been knowen to get drunk on paddymelons and robins have been knowen to get drunk on fermenting apples
The director actually soaked a bunch of fruits in booze and fed the animals and then shot the video. The alcohol content in these fruits is so low that any animal would have to eat 25% of it's own body weight to get drunk, which is just impossible, because a 10,000 pound elephant would have to eat 2500lbs of fruit. In one sitting.
The director was an asshole and actually won an award for best documentary by doing this hoax.

So, why were the elephants (and primates and ostritches and warthogs etc.) staggering drunkenly in the older video?
