I love everything about this album, except the pedal steel in this song...this band has so much heart and passion...just a thing about steel guitars and growing up in the south and having country music shoved down your throat. Great song, love the Decemberists..
Yeah, Colin's son has autism. There's a tinge of sorrow in the song when he addresses the boy, talking about the distance he feels between them. But the stronger feelings are resilience and love and pride. It's a beautiful song.
just got the album, now one of my favorite song's by The Decemberists. Despite this song being about autism I feel you can really hold the song and its lyrics to a number of things in life. Very touching, the album is awesome! Can't wait to see them in Toronto.
