  • COME ON PSYSTAR! YOU CAN DO IT!, apple will be forced to release it on pc eventually because . . . of anti trust. microsoft keep getting FUCKED by people left right and center . . . bout time it happebnd to apple.

  • EVERYONE SHOUT BLURAY! BLURAY!!

Take a trip to Nigeria and check out how much the so-called Apple licensed distributors sell the hardware. A Macpro could be sold at about 850,000 Naira and converting at 118 Naira to a dollar = $7,203. That could get me more than 4 Psystars.

  • I think this is all a vanity play by Steve Jobs. He thinks that anything not approved by him is ugly, and he's appealing to the ultra snobby portion of the fanbase, giving them the exclusivity they desire (true Mac fanboys don't WANT the masses to have Mac's). What Apple is really afraid of is having to justify their premium price for really low end hardware. People buying $500 psystars would never buy a real Mac. They buy $500 pc's. Hey Steve: $155 is more than $0, genius.

  • I for one would love to install os-x on my pc's. ive grown tired of windows over the years and the amount of control Microsoft tries to exert over my experience, especially taking a position against my media habits and trying to enforce restrictions on me. they should leave that to those that hold the rights. i started playing with Linux years ago and its getting better, still, no more than a hand full of quality apps. most just feel like home made crap. sure, i want to give os-x a shot.

  • Lets just stop all the excuses. If apple can run Windows with their ¨boot camp¨, why cant PC have their version of ¨bootcamp¨? I tell you why...its called insecurity. Steve Jobs and his apple dumpling gang are afraid...they are scare that somebody might just come along and make a better machine for less. And Psystar seems to be on that road...

  • Apple doesn't care about having more computer market share than they have now. Quote from Steve Jobs: "Our goal is to make the best personal computers in the world and make products that we are proud to sell and recommend to our family and friends".

Apple won't license OS X to PC users.

  • Apple won't license OSX to PC users. - MacOSXrulez

So what's the reason, from Steve Jobs statement it meant any computer (PC). The Apple clones were not managed correctly, quality went down, and Steve Jobs stepped in. I think he said, "Guys this is going down the shtr.. we would like to run our OS non-Apple hardware, but you gotta meet our specific benchmarks." They didn't want to meet it, so Jobs pulled the plug. It's not the exact quote, but very it's very close.

  • "So what's the reason, from Steve Jobs statement it meant any computer (PC)."

PC: IBM or compatible computer. PC has two meanings.

"The Apple clones were not managed correctly, quality went down, and Steve Jobs stepped in."

EXCUSE. The clones made Apple's hardware sales go down.

  • The clones made Apple's hardware sales go down. -MacOSXrulez

Not exactly, that was part of it too. The large part was that Win 95 was dominating the industry, Apple couldn't compete because their OS and applications fell behind. Apple was looking to update their OS, some consideration were BeOS, Sun, NextStep, and even Microsoft. Apple chose NextStep from Steve Jobs, beating out BeOS as the high contender. The rest is history.

  • It's Apple's software. They do whatever they want with it. Apple won't license Mac OS to PC users.

Apple let some companies make Mac clones in the 90s and lost a lot of money so I don't see them making the same mistake again. If Apple licenses it to PC users, they won't sell hardware and most of Apple's revenues come from hardware.

I think that Apple will render OS X86 machines useless with 10.6.

  • That may be, but obviously OSx86 machines will be able to run Tiger and Leopard. Until Snow Leopard comes out, you can't make that claim just yet.

  • mrbit for president?

    oh yeah

    :)

  • Mac OS X has been running on PC hardware for years. Psystar did make the ROM it's been a available for a while. If you go to any torrent site such The Pirate Bay you can find an iso for something called iATKOS which includes something called EFI emulation so updates work flawlessly on the vanilla kernel. I believe Psystar did. They emulated the EFI when you do so updates will work fine the machine shows up as a Mac Pro. Just thought I would say I think Psystar did.

  • i think if they sold OSX to only 1 million people one day and told everybody which day... They would sell 1 million copies in one day... But that version of osx ran on a pc and only one pc. Wow that would be a cool idea

  • Completely agree. Though as DRJ0K3R said, more money for Apple. :D Wonderful video as always.

  • in apple terms and service in a standard leopard box it states that you cannot run apple software on any machine besides an apple branded machine

  • Mac OS X just doesn't look right on anything other than an Apple computer.

  • Great video man. I don't agree ENTIRELY. There has to be some more incentive for Apple. For example, if Apple licensed OSX to a SPECIFIC machine of a SPECIFIC manufacturer. Say, a $2000 Sony Vaio. Now people can buy that. Or people can save money and get a Mac. At least there is choice. lol To be honest, it's hard to convey my POV in this comment. All in all, nice to see you back in a video :)

  • MrBit, I'm siding with a little with DRJOK3R in his comment somewhat. Though it's fundamentally wrong to call out your intelligence in issues like these. Steve Woz in the 1980's, after Steve Jobs departure from Apple, said Apple's biggest business mistake was not allowing open source. And that's what led to Microsoft gaining the upper hand. I heard that kind of message from you here. You never said the word "Microsoft", but the big revenues said it enough...............

  • But please remember the fact that when Jobs came back to Apple around '97, he threw out all the old and donated it to a university museaum. he knew Apple had to remain going forward without looking back at their muddy past. Let's face it, they were a sinking ship and Jobs has said that plenty.

  • He and Apple re-made the proper relationships that needed to be made, such as partnering with Microsoft to sell shares of stock. Later, after OSX (after Cheetah I think) Apple did not renew their chip contract with IBM and instead went with the chip leader, Intel. So there are a lot of innovative ways Apple is playing with the industry. But Apple deserves the control and respect of making it very hard, if not impossible, to slap their licencing code onto other PC Hardware. That's my take.

  • is that a mac pro?

  • i think its a G5

  • but now if phystar wins Apple will have to do a Microsoft which i thinks cool show us how stable your O.S by running it on many different versions of hardware in my eyes a good O.S can run on anything and have the same performance not technically because of the hardware, some hardware faster than others but u know to get the fastest out of the machine its running on.

    " WICH WINDOWS DOESNT ROFL"

  • It's all up to Apple basically if it gets released onto the pc it will show how good OSX really is see if it can perform on different hardware like windows does sort of does lol. Apple have always took the easy route of having the limited hardware to run there operating system on if you get what im saying,

  • I'm going to have to agree with emeek (in that Apple make their money from hardware).

Apple has tried a licensing program for Macintosh clones before, and it didn't really work out to be all that favourable for Apple.

I'd also hate to see piracy (or fear of it) make Apple change things about the OS. I don't want any nasty activation schemes.

Also, emeek, calm down. Stop all this "faithful user" nonsense. Apple are a company. They just want my money. Should I blindly follow them?

  • Well as Microsoft has shows us you got more profit selling your operating system to other outlets i.e. dell etc, and currently Microsoft are getting more venue than Apple. Yes they wont get money on the hardware side but Emeek look how many copies of osx will be out there considerably allot more than there s now which means more profit.

  • Great Vide and Nice Mac Pro in The Backround.....5/5

  • pple is never going to make a computer to please everybody. Just like there's no $10,000 Rolls Royce. Some companies make luxury cars, and some make cheap cars. If Rolls Royce made a $10,000 car, you can bet your life they would lose a lot of respect from the people who buy the million dollar Rolls Royce.

  • have you even noticed ALL the pc fanboys agree with you. Aussie blacksteel, etc. Tey are al mac haters. Were are the mac users agreing? ITS AL PC PEOPLE. you dont see it do you?

tell me this, if apple licensed to dell, who would get the lion share of profit when they sold the box? LOL.

  • Only 5% of Apple's revenue in the most recent quarter came from software sales. Keep in mind, software sales include sales of Final Cut, iWork and iLife, FileMaker, etc, which means that less than 5% of their revenue comes from sales of Mac OS X.

Can anyone really explain why Apple would completely give up 33% of its revenue?

  • And I think your foolish LOOK at how many people would buy osx on a non mac if apple leet them. Your all fool if you dont think it would cut into hardware sales for apple. Your in complete denial. Everyone here wants osx so bad they cant stand it but they dont want a mac. If you really think it cant take away from apple hardware sales than there is just no talking to you. Why do you want osx on things other than apple? SO YOU DONT HAVE TO BUYT APPLE STUFF, thats why. There is NO other reason.

  • If you spend even a few casual moments looking over their financial statements, you'll see they earn the lion's share of their profits from the sale of hardware. some software products, such as iLife etc, help plus the professional audio and video applications

But nowhere do those revenues match new Macs. they'd have to move huge numbers of Mac OS X , and that's by no means a certainty.

Apple would have to make Mac OS X compatible with thousands of new configurations, including homebuilt

  • Everyone here wants osx so bad they cant stand it but they dont want a mac.

I just want some of the applications in OSX. Apple can certify the parts, make money off it, so hardware sales won't diminish. If Apple made a Mid-tower I might get it. I'd have to really check it out first. I don't have a desire or large need for OSX, but it's an OS that I wouldn't mind using. I'd probably still would be using Windows/Linux because I enjoy using multiple OS's.

  • Great Video! I agree with you 100%

I love my iMac but im not satisfied with apple's hardware selection. I would love to be able to pick up a HP, Asus etc. PC with OS X installed :)

Ooer is that a MacPro in the background? :D

  • both of ya are traitors. WHat hardware dont they offer that you want? If you would put osx on something besides a mac than your not a true man fan. Youll never convience me of it. How dare a faitful mac user speak of putting osx on a fucking beige box. fucking shameful. You love your mac? obviously not as much as you would if you could put osx on a pc.

  • Eric i don't and never will listen to anything you say so there no point bitching at me about how im not a true "apple fan".

Yeah i love my iMac, its a great machine but it IS NOT what i wanted from a machine. I wanted a mid-tower around the price point of an iMac, which they don't offer. Apple seem to have it so rammed up their arse that consumers don't want this for some bizarre reason.

I bought a Mac for OS X not for the hardware, the majority of Mac users i know use Mac only for OS X.

Emeek77 I have to agree with DeadFredVideo. You call him a traitor just because he doesn't have the same opinion as you. Geesh...I don't call people traitors because they like Linux more.

  • PC /= beige box.

  • PC /= black box. - MrYiu08

    Just a little correction there...

  • I was meaning to reply to emeek: "How dare a faitful mac user speak of putting osx on a fucking beige box."

  • AWESOME video, I agree with all your points

  • I had to go over your video once more Mrbit10, notice you said about the anti-trust lawsuit. I read about that lawsuit from all places, Psystar's forums. The Eula agreement for the Psystars are rolled back or setup where the customer accepts it when you first get it.

I do think Psystar will be taken down, but Psystar might raise some large questions over anti-trust law for Apple. I think one of the articles are right, Apple needs to win this 100%.

  • Good video, I agree with you and I liked that you referenced you sources of information.

  • Great video, Mrbit10...

I remember you talking on ustream a few weeks ago about possibly why OSX is locked down on Apple Hardware. It's a form of anti-piracy or to stop piracy from being made. There's more to it of course, but I think you said that's part of the reason.

  • I all ready have a slight bias against Apple Inc mostly just because of this reason.

No matter, I will continue building my own, and Apple inc will continue to shun me and every other non-Apple OEM for that matter.

    It's there loss not mine.

  • The idea with Apple is the to give a unified experience, which they can't give you when they don't control both the hardware and software. It's a different ethos behind their business model compared to say Microsoft who allow you to put it on anything so long as you have a licence. Also there's the fact that it's far easier to support their systems with limited models, they'll know exactly what's in there if you cite the model number and give faster more specific support when issues arise.

  • the grey beard has a intel mac pro.. is the sky falling.. is the world really flat... has mrbit lost his marbles.... is y2k late.. anyways i dont see the harm in vendors using osx.. my next computer will be a imac no matter how this case pans out.. this imac i have now has worked great for me so why would i try a different vendor with osx ... i am sure other people are like me so i dont see it hurting apple at all.. hey it would be great to have more mactards out in the wild

  • lol, great to see you, thanks for the comment. no worries the G5 is now the Server in the house ;)

  • Cool video, thanks foe upload. :)

  • bury those ho's..

we dont need os 10 on other hardware..
