@finalresistance Agreed 100%. Thsi was one of my all-time favorite albums back then and it still stands the test of time. The production is unlike anything else I'd heard, which sets it apart, and this album has an almost White Zombie groove to it, too.

If you like this, I assume you like Benediction, right? Especially their first album with Barney Greenway.

@finalresistance It wasnt until I had heard service for a vacant coffin off severed survival that I truly understood why it could be called death metal, sure all DM bands have their gutteral vocals and pounding double basses, but you get that slow black sabbath like drone and actual audible bass and nothing but the though of death creeping up on you can come of it.

Pagan Saviour, Voices, Torn From The Womb, Twisted Mass of Burnt Decay and Severed Survival are some of their best songs in my opinion. Try listening to them and pay attention to the lyrics, they're really awesome.

One thing a lot of people don't seem to be interested in is how scary an atmosphere a song like this creates. Autopsy didn't adopt doom influences to make their music sad, depressing, or doomy in that way. They adopted doom influences to make their music scary. I mean, compare this album with Severed Survival - even this one's name sounds more scary "Mental Funeral". This is probably the best death metal gets to creating a genuine horror movie like atmosphere. So creepy and slow.

That's wrong too. Autopsy never had anything to do with Stoners. Stoner Doom? Seriously, where the hell did you get that from? Doom, yes. But this isn't quite death/doom in the same way as My Dying Bride - it isn't sad or depressing, it's creepy and scary, because unlike MDB, Autopsy at its core has always been truly Death Metal. They are certainly nothing to do with stoners. They are old school death metal with some doom influences in the tempo, but other than that pure death metal.

Dude listen to the tempo of alot of the songs like this one, and the later parts of Charred Remains and Severed Survival. Autopsy incorporated alot of "Doom" riffs into there music, amidst all the fast paced up tempo heavy blasting music they would make. And them all being huge stoners, well it just mixed in with the music.

I consider them Death Metal that has Doom Metal elements that we can all smoke 3 bowls t =)
