One of the most remarkable musicians, imho. Exceedingly wonderful craft coupled with the keenest of musical intelligence. He even makes Bach sound not boring! Lol.
Fabulous musician, music and performance: Thanks.
Such a short life and so many extraordinary accomplishments. I had the chance to touch the Bechstein he used to play as a young student in Romania, there is still a lot of subtle, undefined magic around...what a pity that none recorded on celluloid one of his live performances!
"rattled off"? At this last recital, he was so weak he could barely climb the stairs to the auditorium, By "almost unimaginable effort of will...(he) raised the performances to sheer incandescence," B.H.Haggin. Thank you, marcbarbu.
Well I can tell you that one of our finest pianists (in Sweden) Lars Sellergren (who also was piano professor at the Royal Music Conservatory in Stockholm) told me that he too thought of Lipatti as his best teacher! (just listening to his records. They never met.)
En vérité pour ce morceau, tout a commencé avec LIPATTI, dommage qu'il est eu une vie si courte !
