I've watched all four of Andy's matches this year at the Brisbane International. After a slow start where he let other players dictate play.....he really picked up his agression and focus in the last two matches against Baghdatis and especially against Bernard Tomic. I'm really impressed I have to say, and I think recruiting Ivan Lendl will work wonders for his game. He needs to get rid of that negativity, and focus on his game. Because his best game can beat Fed, Djokovic and Nadal.
If anyone believes Murray is a "pusher". Think again. Made all semi finals in 2011, getting to the final to the Australian Open. Anyone who seen his 1st set against Nadal at Wimbledon would have seen he played out of his skin to take that set off him. Though I think every Murray fan will agree that it's his mental game that should improve now, he's became more aggressive over the last 2 years.
First 3 points of the video is what made me instantly realise that whoever made this video is a hater, who knows very little about tennis. No such thing as a pusher inside the top 10. Just doese't happen.
there is no such a thing as a "pusher" in top pro players... None.. believe me if we play against any of the professional, they will beat us in second.. hit the winner left and right....
even consistent player like Micheal Chang or Murry or Robredo.. they hit the ball certain speed so it won't allow other guy to attack... if you watch them in live you will see how hard they hit.. TV sometimes it is hard to tell.. it makes so slow on monitor
Murray has had a great year this year (2011) and has but his pushing days behind him. This is a good example of what he can do. But a year or two back he was been a bit of a pusher when playing the lower racked payers. I hope 2012 will be his year!
tbh, i never thought he was anymore of a pusher than any of the other player in the top 10 =/ but, he does need to improve is attack a bit more. cause when he does, it's normally very good to watch =)
Being a pusher shouldn't be taken as being a negative. It arguable takes more effort and skill to charge down every single shot and be able to return it, rather than just serve and volleying or playing a single winner. Think about consistency. For a pusher to win, they must be consistent 90+ % of the time. A player who focuses on single winners just needs 1 decent shot in a rally.
Andy needs to play way more aggresive if he ever wants to beat any of the top 3 players. And his is mentally very weak. Rafa should teach him how to be a mental beast!!
Andy Murray a pusher? Are you kidding me? A pusher is just a player who doesn't take chances and keeps hitting the ball back to the middle ... usually with little pace. I can assure you, he's no pusher. He'd blow most of us off the court.
alright let me clarify everything for all of you idiots. Clydey is right but not because of this video.Obviously he cld have taken any random points that murray played OFFENSIVE on and just compiled them but thats not the point. The point is that obviously none of you retards have actually watched a professional match in person, played by murray or anyone else. From watching tv it might look like murray's a pusher but if you watch him in person you will realize how HARD he hits end of story
BUT when it comes to the crunch moments, the important moments in Grand Slams, he crawls inside of himself, and the real men like Nadal, Djokovic and Federer make him look like a little child.
He NEEDS the killer instinct of those guys, the guts to take a game and play it on his terms. Sure, he plays well in minor tournaments....but it's GRAND SLAMS he needs to bring his top game to. Nobody remembers minor tournaments.
@TennisXCountry You saying in terms of overall skill, or just playstyle? Because if you are talking about overall skill the only one of those that makle sense in #5 which is moonballer, because a pro can kill people who just hits those.
Some pusher if he's been #2, consistent #4, couple of slam finals and semi finals - positive h2h against Federer, beaten Nadal and Djokovic in finals and making about $20 million.
Honestly, there were very few shots that Murray was pushing but overall, Murray is NOT a pusher! he hits the ball hard. His backhand is very deadly he hits the ball very fast! And he attacks with his amazing volleys, while pushers are pussies who all ways stay back on the baseline. Your wrong Murray is a brilliant player and has a very good style of play.
I don't care if the guy is a pusher or not wish I could push my way to number 4 in the world and win master series finals and get to grand slam finals but apparently I can't and neither can all those who whine about his game
Who cares if he is just a pusher? Gaurantee he would beat any youtube commentor's ass. So unless your higher ranked on the ATP.... Any remark you make agaisnt him...isnt that credible.
he played amazing to get there and was very aggressive but when he got to the final he probably was nervous and started to push the ball in, and of course he got his ass kicked because he isnt aggressive when he needs to be, agree?
hey man, at his roots Murray is a pusher, everybody knows that. But he has matured as a player and as weve all seen can bee very aggressive when he wants to, and hes really good at it. He can flatten his backhand out better than almost anyone else. the thing is thay Murray either gets nervous or loses his self confidence before the big matches in the slams cause he reverts back to pushing the ball in, which is why people call him a pusher, a good example would be the ausi open 2010
"pusher" is just a name for those kinds of players that play mostly to get the ball in and force their opponent to either hit a winner or winning shot or an unforced error. Doesn't mean they hit at the speed of 5 year old but rather just enough pace so they are not giving their opponent cream puffs to hit. Being a pusher can get you wins but only to a certain extent. Unless Murray can learn to create more shots like these more consistently, he will be stuck at number 4.
This is explanation for people who obviously dont know much about tennis: Pusher is player who "pushes" every ball in the middle of the court, without any pace, topspin and without even swing! Pusher can NOT hit stroke above 40mph, and it is really rare to hit winner. So Andy Murray or any other pro are not the Pushers!
Pansy Murray is the most overrated, boring, unengaging, charismaless, "almostman", nevergonnabe, legend wannabe that'll ever be. Can't get over what's more boring, his game, his face, his wardrobe, his personality (or lack thereof).

There use to be a time when Andy Murray was aggressive. Then 2009 came along and then he became ultra passive. The guy can play aggressive and he can be good at it too, but for some reason he just doesn't
@gargarensi Totally agreed, i used to support murray throughout 08', watching him at the us open 08 outlined the more aggressive nature he used to play with then. Nowadays he is just a noob basher with his more defensive/passive tactics. Sure this will allow him to maintain his number 4 ranking but it wont challenge the top three. Waiting for your opponent to dump a ball is not a viable gameplan against the very best.
football team!" Imagine that from a Scotsman! And even if he didn't particularly like England, so fucking what? Because everyone should love you? I'm Scottish and tbh don't really like the English, especially when it comes to football, I'll always want England to lose, but know what I always wanted Tigger Tim to do well. Do any of you really think that you could be a pusher and have a record of no.2 in the world and a current ranking of no.4 in the world. A pusher on the tour would just get winners hit straight past him all the time.
@thetennisguy100 lol That #2 rank was nothing but a fluke. He only got there because Nadal didn't play in Wimbledon. And what if Federer didn't choke against Tsonga in Montreal?
@Rafathaman94 Face it, Murray is a great tennis player. Maybe rafa is better right now but so what? That doesn't mean andy isn't a great player. And if you hate him so much then why check out loads of his videos? I can see loads of your comments on here, I only posted this yesterday and already I've got a reply. Just stop watching his videos.
@thetennisguy100 "So what?" First of all, Murray will NEVER be better than Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic. Andy might be a good player for where is, but everyone keeps OVERRATING HIM! Since he made the US Open final, everyone kept saying that he was the best in the world and people were comparing him to all time greats. It's BS. Murray at the most is a 1 slam wonder. And i only replied because I saw your history on your channel.
britian needs sports players that care more about the sport they play rather than what people think of them murray is a example of this. lol and its always british sportsmen that get bashed. usually by british people aha
What is with all the retards who think Murray is a pusher? Watch his match against Djokovic in the Madrid semis. He was a pusher years ago when he broke onto the tour quite often but not anymore. A pusher would get destroyed by any of the top 10 players, and Murray has beaten the top players in the world.
Yeh na i would have to agree with the guy who made this video, murray isn't a pusher he is a shit cunt. Murray is made to look like a pusher when his playing because he gets made to run side to side putting the ball back in play. Yeh so his not a pusher but his defenately a shitcunt. I love how the vid shows murray only hitting winners, so now can you make a video showing us the other 90 per cent of murray hitting the ball back. Plz
The question is why can't Andy play like that now. I've been watching some of his matches, all I see is his passive skills. You can even call his attacks "Moonballing" if you want. I don't know if it's because he could take more risks in his early career like this one than now or he's just simply done with attacking and go for more safer displays, which lead to his defensive style. Anyway, what it matters is how he plays now, not the past.
so some of you guys say he's a pusher. do you even know what ur talking about. no u fuckin don't! Murray may play too passive some of the time. but get ur ignorant facts right. Murray's games style is a COUNTER PUNCHER not a PUSHER. if he was a pusher he would be defensive 100% of the time. when he's not. he can be offensive. e.g this year rome vs djokovic and monte carlo vs nadal.
You could compile random hard shots from any pusher you idiot. It doesn't mean its not rare, it just means they play 50+ matches in a season and you can find a few per match, especially 5-setters. Murray isn't bad, but he is CLEARLY a pusher. I think he's even admitted it before...that's his style of play.
obviously this video is biased towards Murray. Even in the information section the guy has a link to a site called "murraysworld." Get serious dude if u are goin to bring forth an argument please dont present a biased 1 cuz for every 1 video like this 1 there are loads which shows how much of a pusher murray is
@Clydey Murray isn't really a pusher, although sometimes he alters his strategy against certain opponents and at different times based on how the match is going. For instance he plays aggressive against nadal but against federer he decides to work his backhand, the guy is very talented for sure tho
@tetelung why don't you (and all the other ignorant idiots who have been on this video) actually read the title and description of the video. the whole point of the video is to show reason why he ISN'T A PUSHER? duh!!
People think his a pusher because he doesn't always hit those topspin shots. He mixes it up, throws in slice, deep, shorter shots, hits huge topspin then flattens it out. Mixing it up takes all the timing away from the opponent, making his opponent work his absolute best. Not only that, his got a huge first serve. Pushers don't get to number four in the world, a tactician with an amazing physical ability does.
BRAVO to Andy Murray! That's the Pro. we remember! Great job! Thanks for uploading! Btw, Rafa looked like he was doing all the pushing! hahahahah J/K lol! ;-)
what murray lacks is a huge forehand. he doesn't have that one go-to shot to put away his opponent. nadal was not yet a great hard court player at this time, yet he beat murray - a more complete player, but lost to gonzalez - because he had the big forehand.
@isselman2000 Finals are overrated? Ignorant comment. The best players of the tournament are in the final. It is a place where Murray doesn't have the mental strength to win.
Great to see Murray hitting so many winners off Rafa's second serves, and wrong-footing Rafa so many times. Andy was really in the zone during that match!
thanks Clydey for putting together this great compliation.
murray may be a bit passive sometimes but i believe he is the best defensive tennis player in the game due to his fitness, his ability to hit on the run, his ability to guess where his opponent will hit the ball next, and his speed/movement. This makes for very entertaining tennis and plus it forces his opponents to elevate their games
@idontknow43 Well said man, its pretty bad that sometimes when you look at Murray's face and you really see that he feels the pressure of being Britain's only hope. Where as Fed's an artist with his shots, like Jim Courier said, i reckon Murray's more of a surgeon who has to diagnose and check you out first before he really takes action which might be a small factor contributing to his change of pace style, i.e. to test all his opponent's moves as well as play in a way he's comfortable with.
@superpumpernickel i think it's a player who doesnt hit the ball, they just push it. in other words its a player who just tries to get everything back into court, and doesnt try to hit the ball hard. these videos prove that some people's assumption that Andy Murray is a pusher isn't true
I just love how murray plays when he's on form. He watches the opponent, find gaps in their defense and attacks out of the blue. But when he melts down he really melts down. He becomes too passive and let the opponent dictate play. Which happened too many times, especially in GS. Hope he wins a GS one day, the guy is too awesome to not ever win one
I guess ppl here are tennis experts or legends who know enough abt tennis to brand somebody, ranked as no 4, with NAMES. For GOD's sake, he is a top player because he is consistent. Ranking is about how consistent u r rather than how many SLAMs u win.
I love how when players hit winners off of Murmy Murman's faggy feminine paceless girly shots he always drops his jaw and raises his hands in disbelief like how dare you, I'm Andy Murray, destined to be an iconic legendary multiple slam winner, it's been ordained I do say, how dare you. 6'3" and extremely fit yet he plays like a cockless little bitch half that size. I shall forever enjoy watching Murray's bobbing head as he vainly attempts to run down clean winners but to no avail! BWAHAHAHAAAAA
@ArjunJethwa Gee thanks, your concern really goes straight to my heart. But I'd save more of your pity for Murmur, who's fast becoming the most overrated, over hyped player of all time. That title previously belonged to Marat Safin but Murray's building a very impressive campaign in obtaining that honor.
@1steadman1 Yeah you know who else's got issues? Murmy Wurmy who can't seem to win a single fucking grand slam while the tennis world already acts like he's won 10! That's fucking issues.
i believe you mean his finesse, which is class. Changing the pace of the ball takes more skill than trying to hammer a winner. It shows he has shot variety and it makes for better TV. Also, Murray is very modest and does not boast. You're issue lies with England who have 'claimed' Murray for Britain and pile pressure on him. This happened with Henman and Laura Robson too. I think you should just stick to swords kid. Tennis obviously isn't you're area.
@idontknow43 I'm not all about brainless brute power a la Del Potro, Soderling, Berdych, etc. but I much rather watch a guy like Fed win matches based on outstanding winners. Hell even Nadal who was primarily defensive-based early on admits that great offense is more ideal. Not only in saving yourself physically but mainly to be the one mostly in control of the game. Great defense is a must as well today but Murray always crawls under the "pusher" rock when the going gets tough.
This is a nice video of showing when Andy was aggressive. I feel that now, unlike his younger self, is more of counterpuncher, relying on his fitness too much. Thats fine and all, but being aggressive is nice too......
@clunied Really? Well, im just judging from what i saw from the 2007 AO match with Nadal. He was serving and volleying alot in that match. Nowadays he seems more consertive compared to then.
there are absolutely no pushers in the top rankings but that does not mean there are what are called counter-punchers which can be one of murrays qualities even though he is getting into a more well rounded player
Murray's a technical genius. He's smarter than Nadal, just less disciplined. That is the exact opposite of a pusher. A pusher inadvertently effs up your rhythm with crap shots that have no specific strategic purpose. I see no pushing. Where is this so called evidence?
now murray may be prone to playing more of these so called 'push' shots than other top pros like Nadal for example but you can hardly accuse him of being one-dimensional
pushers are normally unranked players with low technical ability, who play slow dull tennis. How anyone could say a pro is a 'pusher' is just pure ignorance. Most to all pro's are going to need to be able to play every shot in the game with maximum effect, sometimes a defensive shot such as a slow floating shot or a lob is required to allow a player time to re-establish position in a rally and it's just one of an array of a multitude of shots any pro should posses.
hes not a pusher.... murray hits a very flat ball. hes an agressive counter puncher. and theres a big difference. someone like nadal when he was 16-17 was a pusher. now obviously hes not. too be honest i dont think there are anymore "pushers" on the pro tour. at least inside the top 100. its impossible to do these days with everyone being so powerful.
I've watched all four of Andy's matches this year at the Brisbane International. Rafathaman94 7 months ago
Just stop watching his videos.
thetennisguy100 7 months ago
@thetennisguy100 "So what?" First of all, Murray will NEVER be better than Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic. Andy might be a good player for where is, but everyone keeps OVERRATING HIM! Since he made the US Open final, everyone kept saying that he was the best in the world and people were comparing him to all time greats. It's BS. Murray at the most is a 1 slam wonder. And i only replied because I saw your history on your channel.
Rafathaman94 7 months ago
sure he CAN play attacking tennis but 99 percent of the time he plays passive shit. still, much better to watch than nadull or djoker..

Plz

pennywiseify 8 months ago
The question is why can't Andy play like that now. I've been watching some of his matches, all I see is his passive skills. You can even call his attacks "Moonballing" if you want. I don't know if it's because he could take more risks in his early career like this one than now or he's just simply done with attacking and go for more safer displays, which lead to his defensive style. Anyway, what it matters is how he plays now, not the past.

Andy Murray: Just a Pusher?
Yes
1940haha 8 months ago
so some of you guys say he's a pusher. do you even know what ur talking about. no u fuckin don't! Murray may play too passive some of the time. but get ur ignorant facts right. Murray's games style is a COUNTER PUNCHER not a PUSHER. if he was a pusher he would be defensive 100% of the time. when he's not. he can be offensive. e.g this year rome vs djokovic and monte carlo vs nadal.
roseschocolate1991 8 months ago

You could compile random hard shots from any pusher you idiot. It doesn't mean its not rare, it just means they play 50+ matches in a season and you can find a few per match, especially 5-setters. Murray isn't bad, but he is CLEARLY a pusher. I think he's even admitted it before...that's his style of play.

@Clydey Murray isn't really a pusher, although sometimes he alters his strategy against certain opponents and at different times based on how the match is going. For instance he plays aggressive against nadal but against federer he decides to work his backhand, the guy is very talented for sure tho
fedex19912000 5 months ago
@tetelung why don't you (and all the other ignorant idiots who have been on this video) actually read the title and description of the video. the whole point of the video is to show reason why he ISN'T A PUSHER? duh!!

Andy Murray just play defensive baseline
appleguy04 10 months ago
People think his a pusher because he doesn't always hit those topspin shots. He mixes it up, throws in slice, deep, shorter shots, hits huge topspin then flattens it out. Mixing it up takes all the timing away from the opponent, making his opponent work his absolute best. Not only that, his got a huge first serve. Pushers don't get to number four in the world, a tactician with an amazing physical ability does.

what murray lacks is a huge forehand. he doesn't have that one go-to shot to put away his opponent. nadal was not yet a great hard court player at this time, yet he beat murray - a more complete player, but lost to gonzalez - because he had the big forehand.

murray may be a bit passive sometimes but i believe he is the best defensive tennis player in the game due to his fitness, his ability to hit on the run, his ability to guess where his opponent will hit the ball next, and his speed/movement. This makes for very entertaining tennis and plus it forces his opponents to elevate their games

BiGPiMPiN591 1 year ago
@idontknow43 Well said man, its pretty bad that sometimes when you look at Murray's face and you really see that he feels the pressure of being Britain's only hope. Where as Fed's an artist with his shots, like Jim Courier said, i reckon Murray's more of a surgeon who has to diagnose and check you out first before he really takes action which might be a small factor contributing to his change of pace style, i.e. to test all his opponent's moves as well as play in a way he's comfortable with.

Swordsman808 1 year ago

@Swordsman808 I don't like murray either and I agree about the girly shots, but man..you got some issues...
1steadman1 1 year ago
@1steadman1 Yeah you know who else's got issues? Murmy Wurmy who can't seem to win a single fucking grand slam while the tennis world already acts like he's won 10! That's fucking issues.
Swordsman808 1 year ago
@Swordsman808
i believe you mean his finesse, which is class. Tennis obviously isn't you're area.
idontknow43 1 year ago 7
@idontknow43 I'm not all about brainless brute power a la Del Potro, Soderling, Berdych, etc. but I much rather watch a guy like Fed win matches based on outstanding winners. Hell even Nadal who was primarily defensive-based early on admits that great offense is more ideal. Not only in saving yourself physically but mainly to be the one mostly in control of the game. Great defense is a must as well today but Murray always crawls under the "pusher" rock when the going gets tough.

Murray's a technical genius. He's smarter than Nadal, just less disciplined. That is the exact opposite of a pusher. A pusher inadvertently effs up your rhythm with crap shots that have no specific strategic purpose. I see no pushing. Where is this so called evidence?
dawRobinson 1 year ago
what murray is a pusher, what sort of stuff does he do,cheap or what,i could do with some of that shit
adrenilenepotato 1 year ago
now murray may be prone to playing more of these so called 'push' shots than other top pros like Nadal for example but you can hardly accuse him of being one-dimensional
ajtoulson 1 year ago
pushers are normally unranked players with low technical ability, who play slow dull tennis.
