'God is an idea'...this is a starting point. It is impossible for the conception crammed mind to understand the significance and the opportunity presented by that. As Dr Needleman says one of the most profound ideas, not concepts, is 'Know Thyself'. What you 'do' with it is up to you. There is 'listening' and there is the spirit of enquiry, so often dormant, can open to another level of understanding.
@anelegantsolution Yes. What I think Dr. Needleman is conveying is that ideas are, in potential, perceptions from a higher source than our ordinary mind where concepts is a process of our 'lower' intellect- compositing the impressions into an intelligible framework, relative to the understanding of the day.
Glad to be the first comment on this video... Regarding the definition of concepts and ideas ...Mr Needleman has it entirely backwards ... Concepts ARE the culmination and synthesis of ideas... Ideas are the building blocks of concepts... Not the other way around... No wonder he has such a hard time defining concepts ... He has it in reverse...
Intuitively yes, concepts seem like interpreted buildings through the language of ideas-' the elementary building blocks' . But that is not in contradiction to what he is saying, as I hear it.
