@greenthumbguy1 He encouraged charity, yes, and so do i. Private charities and charity hospitals do a much better and more efficient job than the government. People choose to give their time and money, that's why charity is a virtue. Government coercion, collecting taxes at the point of an IRS gun, and dispensing "charity" to the poor is not true charity and not virtuous. Jesus wouldn't approve of IRS jackbooks and prison cells.

@greenthumbguy1 Ceasar used the tax monies to pay his army, to pay his bureaucrats. He didn't have any charity scheme, so Jesus was not referring to helping the poor when he said that. The US is in pretty good shape? Keep drinking the kool-aid, the national debt and the unfunded entitlements are so far in the red - well there's nobody on the planet that'll bail us out. Ugly things, including food riots, will eventually happen, it's only a question of when.

Most, if not all countries in the world are a hybrid of capitalism and socialism. The US has social programs, but nothing like true socialism, and will NEVER become a socialist or communist nation. We are a corporate oligarchy. Obama is nowhere near a leftist. Anywhere else in the world he'd be called center-right.

The government makes laws that favor corporations over those pesky small businesses which would normally be competitors.
