There is no "best" software.  It is whatever you are comfortable with using. All personal preference. I like to use the Trigger Finger with Native Instruments Battery 3 in Pro Tools.

I have one of these and they are actually annoyingly hard to play - you have to practically slam the pads in just the right spot or you get a double-hit instead or miss it altogether. I don't know how this guy does it, frankly.

try putting the device on a sturdy table. i sometimes get double hits when its on my lap. also put the velocity lock on that helps.
