To me, many more 'traditional' Belgian beer are BIG, malty, spicy and high in alcohol. They are more as winter warmers than summer sippers. I like them but not for all occasions. I also find trappist style beer great with quality bread and red meat.
i've never really been a fan of dark beers. I've always drank light coloured lagers. Do you have any recommendations on a really nice light tasting beer? Something other than a corona or an american/canadian light beer. And not something skunky like a heineken.
1. I absolutely love your languuage. You must have have loving parents who educate you to the highest standard! 2. I am not drinking and you have not read my notes elsewhere why I use wine glasses to TASTE...tasting & drinking are 2 different things; 3. Most Belgian ale glasses are essentially tulip shape like a wine glass. For this kind of ale, it shows the aroma much better than a mug.
Drink more and your language skills might improve further...
OMG I had this beer for the first time yesterday and this beer is absolutely...AMAZING! I went to Yardhouse restaurant and quite honestly this is probably one of my favorite beers now. I ordered two and I definitely was feeling it before I left. This beer will definitely come up and surprise you when you aren't looking. The only down fall is I paid $7 for each beer which is not cheap. To all who have not tried this...TRY IT! If you like beer you will love this one.
Erm, first of all: PLEASE never drink beer (especially not Belgian beer) in a WINE GLASS!!! That's so wrong. It's not wine, so you DON'T have to 'savor' it like wine! I'm sorry to tell you this: but you are SO wrong.
And secondly: your pronunciation is totally wrong. We are flEmish, not flAmish. Flemish can refer to anything related to Flanders, but it is NOT the language we speak, we speak DUTCH.
Thanks for the comments. I have to say I don't usually bother to answer about using the wine glass to drink beer ANYMORE and I am just SO PLAIN SICK of people pointing it out. Tasing beer is not drinking beer and I do not care if it's a wine glass or a original Gulden Draak glass. Tasters need a glass that can bring out the best of all flavours and this bulb shape glass does the job. You are entitled to feel wrong but I don't care. I am just so sick of people complaining...
Also, many glasses that are traditional drinking vessels originated from 1. wonrg shaped that has passed on from traditions / history / culture; 2. from MARKETING to make it look different than others. In my opinion, most beer glasses do not bring out the best tastes in beer but now I agree with you: I use them to drink but I REFUSE to use them to taste unless they are of the right shape. There is a major distinction between drinking and tasting.
Gulden Draak is AMAZING, 5 stars, tops!!! It is one of my all time favorites. The only downside is that is is expensive. Costs about $4 US for one 11oz bottle.
BTW, the alcohol content is 10.5%, at least that is what is on the label for what is sold in the US.
Kevin: I always think the alcohol content is 10.5% but the Canadian (British Columbia) label of the beer clearly states it's 7.5% and that's why I need to double check with the importer. By the way, drink quality not quantity so $4 a pop although is dear gives you a good sip of the heavenly nectar! I had my last bottle just 3 weeks ago :( I also think there are many other great beer styles from the small country that are just simply heavenly nectars!
Good! I am not too Big a fan of this kind/style of beer. My natural style is pilsner and New world IPAs (Can glug down gallons of them!) but I am an open minded perosn I believe so I strive to understand many different drinks over the years!
What are som eof the "new world" IPA's that you like? I am not familiar with that term. I am guessing it is refrring to American IPA's or non traditional english ipa.
this beer allways make me sick the morning after <.<. But it gets me drunk XD

This vintage version of Gulden Draak looks very much like a yuletide beer.
I wonder if it's still brewed today.
I've tasted the classic dark triple, and it's great.

That would be a goblet glass that is traditional for Belgain beers. It deserves a proper glass at 13$ a bottle.

Bottle which I hold in my hand NOW :) says that content of alcohol in beer is 10.5%! The label is a bit different, without Christmas theme things.
For sure, if not The Best, then one of the best Belgium beers!

in my opinion the west cost makes the most aggressive IPA specifcly San Diego area of Ca, alot of intense dry hopping and Imperials.
Good IPA's from California: Anderson Vally, Speakeasy, Green Flash, Stone Ruination is ok, Ballast Point Double Dorado.
i just brewed a double IPA with OG: 1.08 and theoretical IBUs around 150
