Good job lad. Dont ever stop plaing - when your 50 you will be glad you selected thiis style of music at your age. Isnt it fun to play this by yourself - this kind of music can really move the soul and spirit. I can tell you have practiced alot to do this video recording. ---- Brovo ;-)

this man understands the music. Note his beautiful technique. No drama just a perfectly executed performance. The guitar rests in his hands like a new bride.
Don't get me wrong, but I felt very happy when I heard this interpretation. First, because I realized I have a warmer, stronger tone than this man (no offense), and second, because I'm on a lower level; I can't play this piece, so it's weird, I have a better tone, but I'm just an intermediate player.
You have good hands and good fingers bro, but I agree, you have to do it slower in the first movement, you have to feel it, and enjoy it, and then you will make the people enjoy.
If you all like classical music please check out my original compositions. Just type into the youtube search engine "Ray of Hope by Rejekt313" or "Through the Meadows by Rejekt313" or "Painful Farewell by Rejekt313".
i agree with you. no need to argue. that's just beautiful. this is just as it is. don't try to put names or explanations on everything you see or hear. i know that a human habits but still... that's just beautiful...so listen and feel but don't try to understand it with your brain. if there is a god, then i think that trying to understand it with your brain is just pointless. the same way that your brain cannot understand the infinity of the univers. So just listen and enjoy =)
I think he is still young...but for his age is really good, he just needs more experience. All guitar players when starting their careers as musicians they always become experts when having more than 10 years. But he is doing very well until now....dont give up bro you are good, I have to admit that you are better than I playing this piece.
But you dont play as good as him....he is still young, he needs more time and experience to become as good as profesionals like Ana Vidovic or John Williams.
i thought this was entrancing. Not perfectly played but still impressive. Ive been playing the guitar for 5/6 years now but nothing like this unfortunatly. Had lessons from the age of 12 till 15 but played nothing worth mentioning. After that i started playing well known songs from the 80's onwards... my teacher choose the music we played. Now im afraid my style is to different to attempt to play this stuff, or atleast without taking lessons for another 5 years. (appologies for the bad grammar
yeah, i had been playing electric guitar forever, then i switched to classical when i was like 17. It is a tough switch but luckily my left hand technique was pretty developed.
Musicality is ... I don't really like to tell someone how to play but Andante Religioso (2nd piece) where really strange played. And you didn't play parts of Allegro Solemne (3rd/last piece).
so kurt cobain plays classical? haha just kidding ppl. Jared u sounded awesome!! i dream of playin this piece as good as u one day bro!! it's a tough one and u nailed it! Great job man.
There are many mistakes in that play. I did not even heared some tones, you are slowing down before every hard part.. almost waiting... better would be to play it slower all than play easy parts quickly and then slow down on criticals... well in all cases, good job, it is hard one....
Don't argue, please just enjoy the beauty of something man made.Whether you believe in a higher power or some God is natural right that you possess. But considering this video is about music, for all other intensive purposes, listen to the small things that still make us human.Music is more powerful than people can imagine, and I believe without a doubt that this piece, speaks nothing but peace.
You sound great man! I earned a degree in classical guitar performance at UNCC here in Charlotte, back in the late 80s. La Catedral was part of my senior recital.
Keep up the good work; the world needs more beautiful music!
All these arguments here! Let's just all agree how cute he is :)
No disrespect to the musicianship, of course. I play classical guitar and learned the first two movements of this song but have since forgotten them. Amazing talent this guy has.
I find crystals pretty. Magic laughter of elves in a forgotten forest call childhood. does the beauty vanish when we find a flaw? Colors in motion sounding off of invisible walls. The boy fell through a window and was never seen again. It makes me wonder how I keep my feet on the ground. Pulled inside out and out of myself. Diving into the sky. There is no splash. Only nothing shining radiantly a truth infinte. Enlightenment of a marble statue in an exhibit downtown. Priceless silence.
wow, when i read how two people start arguing on a youtube-comment-page about who's got the better homeland, i wonder: is it strange we have war and fighting around the world? humans cant stand each other! =P
once again you prove your historical ignorance. "CYPRUS ISSUE" = turkish invasion 1974. before that 40's = english empire reigned the island. before that there where, frangs, the venice based empire, i can go on forever. cyprus has always been captivated and till today with the cyprus issue and the turkish invasion, (turks possess the 1/2 of the island - illegally) there are thousands of refugees, and people who sacrifised, giving their lives for freedom.
"your right to express your opinion does not oblige us to take it seriously" thus i wont.
"necessity is blind. freedom is the conciousness of necessity" <= MARX.
you go on and be a racist against the african americans, as you did with the indians who were the natives of america when your "ancestors", a bastard race really, settled to america.
or maybe, go kill millions in IRAQ, with the scapegoat of "we want to promote freedom and peace". O I L = your reason, period!
lastly, i love how your empire is now falling to pieces. your capitalism has died, and you should expect, as every other countries bourgois, a revolution that will slaughter the "new world order", the USA, have created.
what you have to understand, as a nation, is that the world doesnt revolve around you, and you have no right in invading other countries, killing people, and presenting the pacifiers. for the last time, i do not speak generally, but for those who think like you, and your goverment
i can send you my cambridge proficiency and igcse certificates along with 10-20 poems of mine, awarded with prizes in competitions, amongst famous poets of Cyprus.

χοιροκιτία < cherocetia : palaiolithic era civilization. classical times, byzantine empire.. i can go on for ever..
america goes as back as past medieval times, when english and irish moved to the lands, nowadays known as USA, and did what they always do, till today, terrorize the natives.
now if you wanna claim imperialism, capitalism, social injustice etc as achievements of the land of "Freedom".. do so, i call you land of faggotry and disgrace.
i though know that this stereotype is not followed by the majority of the citizens, still though, people like you prove it correct and there's undesputedly, undoubtedly, and absolutely nothing you can do.
1. u re american and u still suck cock in english. = > "Grammer" ? i rofl'd
2. u 're an american mom's son, who thinks he owns anything, and the world revolvs around him.
now kingsuckerpunch made a point, he might have no videos on, but he did ntn wrong. simply, he exercised his right given by youtube, to comment on videos with his opinion.
Well Gavin, English is not my native language, so a spelling mistake every now and then is possible. Whats your excuse? "... spelling heart as 'Hart' as not good." Beautifull sentence, really!
And im sure that the video is fine by your standards, but your American, and unless you've studied music in Europe, your opinion means fuck-all.
Well, this was probably a public performance, maybe his first one, going off how he's dressed. He was probably quite nervous. It doesn't affect my playing much when I'm in front of people, but I know kids that get so nervous their hands visibly shake. He probably psyched himself out as much as anything. Which certainly means he should practice it more. A piece should always be perfect before attempted before an audeince. Also, generally more formal clothing... I respect the attempt though.
This guy needs to practice with a metronome. This is a clear example of a person who tries to play above his skill-level. His so called dynamics are no more then a lack of technique. I would suggest to practice your schales for maybe another year and then come back to the piece.
So what if he makes an effort. So can my baby brother. I have always been told not to play the piece if you dont have the skills, or it fucks up the music. I think this is a clear example!
skill isnt all there is. sure he butchers the piece here, but i feel that when you play something that you get attached/driven/ inspired/motivated by, but cant really catch all the notes in time, it still sounds better than when you've have learnt the piece and gotten bored of it. its all about the feeling you get out of doing stuff. plus when playing something way above your league you learn more
Yes I can. I know the piece by hart. Unlike this guy i might add. His 1st and 2nd movement are more or less o.k, but in the 3rd movement you can hear hes not ready for it. He slows down at every hard bit. Thats why I said he should practice his scales a bit more, and then in a year time or so, then he can give a solid performance. Im sure hes got what it takes to get there, at the moment hes just not there yet.
one thing I can tell you that a lot of guitarist dont know, is that when your fingers need to slide on 4,5,6th strings, lift them up, they are where the noises are from, i hear a lot from the 3rd movement which you can easily eliminate if you do so
then at the end of 3rd movement your hand went to somewhere close to saddle.. don't know if you intended to do so
You have to congratulate this guy, this is one of the most difficult guitar pieces ever. John Williams nailed this piece perfectly in non-commercial live 1976 performance. I have the video to share if anybody wants to see this done perfectly.
jared i have to tell you that this was AMAZING!!!!!you feel what your playing.i entered a guitar contest back in 98 with this song and i played una limosna at the final and i got first place..i never had any training at all,i learned on my own to read music.do not let anyone tell you that your footing is wrong or that your left or right hand isnt in the right position for attack.continue to be yourself, and forget the dogma...i loved your playing.
very true panos, but this piece is so difficult to play without making mistakes.practicing with a metronome make a huge difference.very good advice....
Classical training is not all dogma. There is something to be learned about tone and simply preventing injury. Even the way you sit can cause problems. No you don't want to lose the feeling but that is not something taught.
i learned how to play classical guitar on my own and to read music when i was 19 i'm gonna be 36 saturday.i won first place in a contest back in 98.i haven't had an injury by sitting wrong or fretting chords either. other than breaking my right pinky twice when i was 16 i'm still playing barrios and my favorite scarlatti..but i get what your saying, everybody is different..thanks hueseph..
Playing a classical piece to people who listen primarily to pop rock and metal is one thing. Playing a classical piece in order to pass your conservatory test is another. People who don't listen to classical music on a regular basis are amazed that you can play upper and lower melody at the same time. Some people have a natural talent for music and that's great but sometimes building on the experience of others takes you further than you on your own could.
A fair job. It's a hard piece to get perfectly though, so you should be proud. A good start here. Some pointers: your right hand in this is very flat, up your height a bit and the angle at which you attack the strings better, also your hand is very bunched up in spots-keep loose; your high E sounds very brittle-toyish, i'm thinking it could be the string or your nail could need a bit of reshaping, you have a bit of trouble keeping an appropriate speed too, try practicing a bit with a metronome.
Really tough piece. Although I do agree that a metronome will help, I think the piece was meant to be played rubato to some extent. That being said, rubato should be intentional and not a result of a lack of practice.
Do check out Azabajic's rendition. Inspiring and considerably slower in tempo over all. It does not take away from the intensity of the piece.
Esta bien, pero el allegro es un poco lento, creo que empezaste muy deprisa al principio, y luego es dificil seguir la secuencia de velocidades hasta el allegro, pero en general, bastante bien.
H-m-m-m, I think they're really pretty good, but if you like we can certainly have another recording session. Meanwhile, do you want to leave these posted?
I know how hard it is, but please correct those buzzing, annoying sounds..... you can do even better than that :)))

Great technique, but he definitely needs to work on the colour of the tone.
Anyway, superb performance.

5 Stars from me, even if he didn't interpretate it so wonderfully, but still awesome skills.

one thing I can tell you that a lot of guitarist dont know, is that when your fingers need to slide on 4,5,6th strings, lift them up, they are where the noises are from, i hear a lot from the 3rd movement which you can easily eliminate if you do so
then at the end of 3rd movement your hand went to somewhere close to saddle.. don't know if you intended to do so
yangmagic0703 3 years ago
A slide is way easier than lifing the finger, especially in a piece like this.
RobertJV24 3 years ago
that's why there's a big difference between having noise and having less, if you're saying it's impossible to lift, then I wont talk over it anymore

This comment has received too many negative votes show
este pibe no transmite, no te emociona nunca, es un stephen hawking de la guitarra

that was rude, just plain rude, to talk about stephen like that.

You have to congratulate this guy, this is one of the most difficult guitar pieces ever. John Williams nailed this piece perfectly in non-commercial live 1976 performance. I have the video to share if anybody wants to see this done perfectly.

where do i find this video of john williams playing la catedral?
thanks

Re : 1st movement. The melody should be played with a rest stroke to give a softer sound. I find the way you play the melody to harsh

jared i have to tell you that this was AMAZING!!!!!you feel what your playing.i entered a guitar contest back in 98 with this song and i played una limosna at the final and i got first place..i never had any training at all,i learned on my own to read music.do not let anyone tell you that your footing is wrong or that your left or right hand isnt in the right position for attack.continue to be yourself, and forget the dogma...i loved your playing.
inrk 3 years ago
Yes, but he must correct those mistakes and practice it more with a metronome
panosfromgreece 3 years ago
don't forget about the nervous
napster159 3 years ago
very true panos, but this piece is so difficult to play without making mistakes.practicing with a metronome make a huge difference.very good advice....

Some pointers: your right hand in this is very flat, up your height a bit and the angle at which you attack the strings better, also your hand is very bunched up in spots-keep loose; your high E sounds very brittle-toyish, i'm thinking it could be the string or your nail could need a bit of reshaping, you have a bit of trouble keeping an appropriate speed too, try practicing a bit with a metronome.
kaseymcc2 3 years ago 2
Really tough piece. Although I do agree that a metronome will help, I think the piece was meant to be played rubato to some extent. That being said, rubato should be intentional and not a result of a lack of practice.
Do check out Azabajic's rendition. Inspiring and considerably slower in tempo over all. It does not take away from the intensity of the piece.

Esta bien, pero el allegro es un poco lento, creo que empezaste muy deprisa al principio, y luego es dificil seguir la secuencia de velocidades hasta el allegro, pero en general, bastante bien.

you know... icould almost understand all of that... i just forgot what allegro means...

EXACTO, eso es lo único malo que le veo a la forma en que la toca el. Lo demas queda bien
