Leave the man alone!! I seem to remember the great Luigi Taveri nearly stacking the famous Honda 6 during a TT demo lap. These are really race machines with proper racing history, just like the track they are on. I wouldn't blame anyone for having a go. I was at the TT this year and the most interesting views during the parade lap for me were the guys going for it, even Hutchy with a bird cage on his leg!!!
Hey, I have to take the blame for it. I was too fast and in the wrong place on the track. totally my fault. But in 10 years riding there have only dropped it 2 times, I reckon that's not too bad as the first time I did it, it was my first time i had ever ridden the track. When I knew I wasn't going to make the corner, all I could do was scrub off as much speed as poss and try to save the bike. She only suffered minor damage. But, yes, silly mistake. I AM NOT MY FATHER!!!!!! Just me!
Ha ha, no worries Dave. Happens to the best of us. Glad you were OK.
BTW, I met your Dad in South Africa when he lived there and he was a proper gent. Besides that though, he also happened to be the best ever. We all still miss him.
@141discodave its your dads bike dave. he d be proud of you. you are the rider and only you knew the circumstances. bikes are made to be used not sit in museums!
@anticenaguy Hey Adam, good to hear from you. Has yr dad forvigen me yet???? ha ha ha. I'll send over the on board footage, now that is spectacular!!!!!!!!!
@a34rwl Thanks, i tried my best to stop it, but out of habit i banged down through the gear box, but being a race box it was the wrong way up, so when i dumped the clutch there was nothing there. i won't be doing that again, ha ha ha
none of u leaving comments clocked the bloke on the right waving the OIL on track flag???? cant blame him coming off the gas and standing it up, shame there wasnt the runnoff area.
With respect Dave, you weren't supposed to ride it as hard as you could - you were supposed to ride steady and wave to the crowds. And it's not the first time you've come a cropper on a bike for no reason but yourself. And the majority of the riding public on the island (legally or otherwise) went around that corner successfully at a similar speed.
@UpTheRight Just to add, if the engine had just cut out in gear the bike would have jolted. Either the engine didn't cut out but the clutch was engaged, or the engine cut out after the bike had been put into neutral.
Mike Hailwood Blue Printed Replica. RC181 500 4 Cylinder. 1 of 8 bikes built. As close to the real thing as you will ever get. Power, and handleing and feel of the bike is exactly the same as the origional machine. There is nothing quite like it!
Hi all. I would just like to say that it is one thing to sit on the wall and watch and it is something else to get on a bike like that and ride it as hard as you dare in a place like the TT. If you were given the chance, you would take it, no? So I thank God, my father and my sponsors for letting me ride and letting me get away with that! Am sorry for the damage but the bike will be back together soon ready to run for the 1000 bikes at Mallory.
And all of these people making comments probably CAN do it! Not! The engine died before the crash for some reason. Maybe there were other issues. Go and search out the big crash Sammy Miller had a few years ago. Now that one seemed to be big FAIL.
That is brilliant best laff i have seen for ages, what the father did, it is now very obvious the son cannot.. excellent bit of history caught on Camera.......

@141discodave I think you did a great job. You didn't panic and you - bravely - stayed on the bike and saved it from much more serious damage.
Most people would have baled.
