you pull it down then you have to try and release it at the right time. if you go to practice mode you can practice your free throws. its really easy once you learn. this is on the classic controller if your using the wii-mot and nunchuk then idk sorry.

Yes, there are a crapload of sliders to tweak, though I've only turned up the difficulty by 1 and that gives me what I think is a pretty real basketball game.  It's a little easy to steal from even the best point guards, but you could change that.
