This was good, but I thought the guards were to "Blah" they should have been more enthusiastic.

I agree, but at least the main characters were good. The head guard who talked was kids with learning disabilities, but he loved to be in plays, so he was given a speaking part for his last play. He loved it!

in my school's production, the broom actually emitted a small flame that dissolved quickly, but it didn't work in most of the performances. It finally worked on the last day.

In the movie the witch is holding a broom that is on fire to threaten Dorothy, so Dorothy throws the water at the witch to put out the fire. She didn't mean to hurt the witch. It was in self-defense. Our high school didn't think that having a flaming broom on stage would be a good idea, so it isn't clear in the play.

@rwpusey no, in the movie she sets the scarecrow on fire and dorothy dumps water on the scarecrow. some of the water splashes on the witch and she melts.
