Try comparing a Metro replica to a Marshall Reissue. The Metro would blow it away. I was very disappointed with the Marshall JTM45 Reissue. It's a shame that Metro Amps can make a better Marshall Reissue than Marshall.
Yep, the difference I hear is the same as when I put re-issue tubes in my head vs originals. The '68 that George built me with ORIGINAL Mullards in it has the EXACT same character as my friends original '68...actually we both feel that my Metro is a little sweeter (George did use original mustard caps in mine). I feel it's unfair to your quality of clones to hear a dif only in the quality of tubes! To be completely fair I feel you should use the same tubes in both heads when doing comparisons :)
The '66 has just a little more swirl, is a little looser and a hair more bottom. The replica is a little tighter with quicker response. The difference is primarily the tubes and the relative hours on each amp and their trannies.
@skydog46 come on man don't sugar coat it ,what are you doing looking for popularity, be pals with everyone, freakin tell it the way it is, Im sure George is a big boy. the Marshall smoked the metro, I am a big fan on Metro amps but these two comparisons the Original Marshall was more musical. Made the metro amp sound like a Peavey solid state not musical at all, actually terrible. this metro model needs to go back to the drawing board
