  • "when you die, can i give that to me daughter" haha

  • "Go hide in a hole if you wish...fear profits a man nothing" Great line.

  • The King would of Stood watch with them. To die of oldage in Viking culture you went to hell. Only way to go to Valhalla was to die in battle.

  • is this a retelling of beowulf or something?

  • @allshallbelosttoyou ...A "reimagining" of sorts

  • great line for a life lesson "...go and hide in a hole if you wish fear profits a man nothing

  • 2:20 "Teeth like a lion..." really bad example

  • NIce looking brunette in the white shirt. But that shirt looks like it was manufactured on a 20th century loom.

Yes, Vikings knew about lions because they went all over Europe by 922.

  • ''teeth like a lion'' -- wait.. northmen knew about lions?

  • @alexboissonnault Perhaps he meant a mountain lion? Did they have those there? Or maybe he went on a raid to Africa when he was younger?

  • @zz13x Yeah its what I thought in the first place, but wasnt sure about it.

  • @alexboissonnault

    yes, they did

  • @alexboissonnault

Lions were found in Europe before they were pretty much driven to extinction. Also, the Northmen had a very extensive trade network reaching into Asia, Africa, Iberia, Anatolia, and Arabia.

  • 3:41 The one laughing is just like fuck ya bring em on

  • The movie was awesome. But the book is even better. So much more descriptive.

  • @clannmacgregor is it called the same as the movie? really wanna read it :)

  • @ScandinavianQueen No. The name of the book is "The Eaters of the Dead." By Michael Crichton. It is way more descriptive then the movie was. In particular in the Funeral of Bulvi's father.

  • @canadianshit212 In ireland the Vikings were very succesfull, Dublin is even a town the Vikings established as a fortification in the beginning were they could do raids from. But the Viking settlers in Scotland and Ireland lacked manpower and reinforcement and were eventually defeated. England was the Vikings primary target to raid and England became the target for the Great Heathern army.

  • @canadianshit212

    watch?v=BcupizP73q0&feature=related

    You should watch that documentary.

  • @canadianshit212 The Vikings did attack Scotland and settled large parts of it, In some parts the Vikings even exterminated the Picts.

  • I hate that Prince Wygclyf guy. he would not have gotten so mad about what Buliwyf said if it wasn't true. i, by the Authority vested in me, by me, do so declare the Prince to be a Uberdouche and a Tool. all in favor say Aye. all opposed, say nothing.

  • @Isildun9: Aye

  • that one tall viking is always laughing lol, its so funny because no matter what he's always laughing HAHAHAHAHA! lol

  • @canadianshit212 i never said they could, the celtics own all

  • @canadianshit212 u know the vikings who settled around Scotland in Ireland and England intermarried with the Celtic. so if your ancestors came form Britannia their is a high probability that you have viking blood.

  • This is based on Beowulf. All except for Antonio Banderas's character.

  • very reminiscent of beuwulf , somehow

  • if i was there i would fight like the celtics.... bare ass but fucking naked!

  • Comment removed

  • I wanna fight with them aswell :(

  • this is a very interesting take on Beowulf..I love that story!

  • @lilhotboxx09 except it's not

this is a historical account ...

  • @mumumwa actually it is based on Beowulf, the semi historical part is just the first chapter in the book. The rest of the story is just an adaptation on Beowulf.

  • God, that Buliwyf.....I'd follow him to the ends of the earth, too.....

  • You won't drink tonight? Echo, echo, echo...

  • Me encanta esta pelicula,, strong men with long hair jajaja,, and Antonio Banderas, ooh i love him..

  • I also really like the innuendo between the queen and Buliwyf; the fact that Rothgar kind of resigns to their benevolent conspiracy when he calls for his armor is a charming moment.

  • "The all-father wove the skein of your life a long time ago. Go and hide in a hole if you wish. But, you won't last one instant longer. Your fate is fixed. Fear profits man nothing."

I have lived by these words since I was a young boy. I have not regretted it since.

  • A lot of Beowulf references, especially the confrontation with the son part, very good movie though.

  • the viking is great but they kick ass by arab in spian my friend looool

  • I love, love, love, love this movie. Gives me chills even now, after watching a zillion times. But is it just me when I say the Wendol look like roadies for GWAR?

  • This movie comes very close to Beowulf. In a good way.

  • Ancient northern Germanic tribes long ago ...some were this; cannibals.

  • @islandsylph They are neanderthals

  • @UserUK201 Look it up, there was a wondering tribe of germanic tribe that fits the bill and by this point in history neanderthals were long gone.

  • @islandsylph the author of the book eaters of the dead said the Wendolls were relic neanderthals. this has nothing to do with historical facts.

  • @islandsylph First off its fiction, not historical fact. Second read the book the author out and out states that they are a relic neanderthal group and Falan's description of the Wendol match neanderthal physicology to the tee.

  • Wendel? Isn't that normally what those in eastern Europe were called? The Venedi were in modern day Poland, and the Vandals were from the same region.

  • @JuniusFaction

Possibly but I also remember reading a legend of a grendel-like creature called the "Wendigo", which I'm assuming was used mostly for the basis of the wendols int he film.

  • @rencrow

Actually, I'm pretty sure the Wendigo is native american in origin... but Grendel makes sense as well.

  • @JuniusFaction they are neanderthals

  • @JuniusFaction That is correct. Another name for the Wendigo is "Wind Walker." And it is a Native American Legend.

  • @rencrow A Wendigo is some thing totally Different. The Wendigo is an Ancient Spirit. The Wendols were people.

  • @clannmacgregor Yea my bad. I had them confused.

  • @JuniusFaction they are neanderthals

  • Fate often spares a warrior when his courage endures.

    Beowulf

  • in every film at a table someone says someone and the other stands up

  • this is best it could get. i love the unique idea of time when people didn't know much about the world. and great cast.

  • Yeah Thats True, FEAR PROFITS A MAN NOTHING

  • In my view God, a God, Gods made the hearts and minds of men, but the bible was written by man. Man lies, we lie, deceive but so does nature. I have my beliefs but won't force them on anyone else..my dad was a viking reenactor, i am now and yes if there is a heaven it is my valhalla hehe. good film, fun :)

  • Yes yes, it was written by man but inspired by God. God doesn't lie. :)

  • @renoxuken

Lol your posts and logic are comical. Hail Odin.

  • I'm merely posting with the same kind of logic of those whom I'm replying to.

If you would like me to explain my claims, I'd be happy to. Although it might be best to do it on mine or your profile or through a pm, since I'm sure the people watching this video are tired of the discussion. :)

  • @StueyLestrange I'm not criticizing you I'm just curious. If you are taken to Valhalla will you fight alongside the gods at Ragnarok?

  • @NCWC2 IF..then i'd say yes but I doubt I will. see obviously i havent been killed, been wounded in a past job (RAF) and got stabbed a couple times in my last job (Security) (you should have seen the other guy) but IF..then yeah. Another point of view I have is that Ragnarok has already happened. sometimes it feels as if the Gods are dead.

  • @StueyLestrange I don't suppose that's all bad. It means we're free to make our own fate doesn't it?

  • @NCWC2 I'm surprised more people havent taken the piss tbh.plus i'm pretty annoyed i havent died yet..especially when i think a few good friends i had who loved life had families and all, they died but not me. just seems unfair in a sick way. but your right..

  • god lucifer_bullshit, read some books and forget religion, its bullshit for ignorants, it destroyed europe, christianism is a jewish religion mixed with other ancient asian european legends..its bull ismamism is the same servsto inslave man christianism was the only way to control the wild hearted northern ppl they have in their flags the christian cross sweden norwayisland england denmark jewish lies, niggers indians they dont belong amoung us only slow white and corrupt them

  • Ah yes I believe the term is Christianity, and I don't know where you got any of that info. Must have been out of your ass.

  • I will admit though, people do tend to wrongfully use Christianity for their own political agenda

  • jesus just enjoy the movie and knock off the religous crap, and besides your god made your kind to be slaves and your devil gave you the ability to choose to be whoever you wanted to be

  • I'm not the one who started all of this, and what you just said is a load of crap. Oh and He's everyone's God whether they believe or not :)

  • vikings didnt have short hair

  • is the prince a traitor in this, does he cosort with the wendol

  • nah he's just a little bitch who wants to be king

  • is it me or is this story similar to that of Beowolf. But minus Grendel along with some other minus changes.

  • it's based on it..

  • it based on that yes

  • yea the kin g is called hrothgar same in beowolf and the king of the vikings must be beowolf

  • When I first saw this movie, I was actually expecting it to be a fantasy movie, with a dragon coming out of the hills, the "glow worm". Brilliant how it led up to reveal they were only men. Great subplot.

  • Fear profits man nothing. So true!

  • baresarks

  • yes, and whats more, berzerkers, use to foam from the mouth, growl like animals and even bite their shields, and they fought naked, with only animal skins on.!!!any soldier not acostume to that sight, would shit on their pants!!!!

  • "Fool is a man who drinks much so, he cannot call upon his wits." I'm an Asatruar, a follower of the old gods and viking religion. They knew an important fight was to come, so they wished to be able to call upon wits and strength when they needed it. They didn't want to be drunk so they couldn't be smart.

  • true, interesting, you are asatruar???, I follow seax wicca, but Im very interesting in astru, there is just one problem, I been told, not every man its allowed to practice asatru

  • anaksbane2 you still believe in adam and eve and god? lol retard.

  • BRING ME MY ARMOR!!!!!

  • Hrothgar was going to beat ass. Reminds me of King Rohan from the Lord of the Rings.

  • haha the largest... This is not true. Many reigions have same roots, yes semitic. But the islam is the largest

  • the Jews aint tiny small religion... the semitic religions are the largest...

  • i read somewhere vikings went to batle totaly drunks 99 % of the times

so this is not compleatly true

bendol leyends exist i mean but..

vikings not drinking before batle ?

however this is hell of a movie :)

  • As a follower of asatru and someone who's studied the vikings at length i can tell you that they did not actually drink before battle. the tradition was that on the morning of a great battle they would start a large batch of beer and drink it in celebration upon returning. besides, ever try doing ANYTHING with a hangover? why would you want to fight hungover.

  • hungover...

    you mean drunk ?

    sorry, my english just sucks

as i said my friend, i just read that somewere.

i dont know almost nothing about vikings i must accept, i just love the warrior tradition

in my countri, men shoud earn the respect by combat and showing be a true man, NOT A MACHO

well this is just why i love this traditions and this movie

was just a coment people, hope not ofend noone

  • No I mean hungover, which is why they wouldn't drink before a battle or the night before. even if you got completely hammered before the battle the fight itself would burn the alchahol out of your system very quickly leaving you with a waking hangover (which is even worse). and that would drop most anyone.

  • 02:24 hahahha I love person like this one... you can always find one in any village lol

  • Am I the only one that thinks this movie reminds them of Beowulf? (Not the movie but the actual narrative)

  • It IS based on Beowulf.

  • O ok. I was just wondering.

  • Thanks for posting Kyo - great film.

    P

  • why cant you just watch a GOD DAMN good movie like this and not write a SHIT COMMENTS? why???? just tell me? This is great story... about an Arab who came to Scandinavia... Culture meetings... and just for benefit of friendship between them... SO FUCK YOU all who is racist here... BECOUSE you dont belong to this movie, and you dont know what a true Viking honor means

  • and what religion do you like? A God Damn barbaric one? :)

  • You mean christianity where god murdered 99% of all humans ? wanted animal sacrifice ? sends people to hell ?

  • "murder" lol. Do you think He decided kill everyone just for the hell of it? The only good people were Noah and his familiy, the rest of the world would have nothing to do with Him and became so wicked that they sealed their own fates. Men before Jesus's time used animal sacrifices to atone for their sins. God doesn't send people to hell. They send themselves into Hell. God offers a way out and those in Hell foolishly refused it.

  • There is no hell without god. Only if you believe in god, there is a hell. And he created it. If he exists - hell exists. So hell is his fault. If, however, he does not exist, hell becomes an illusion, thought up by wily humans to keep others in fear and therefore subservient.

  • @pikewerfer Well said on both posts..

  • Humanity is naturally sinful(even so, our sin is washed away by the blood of Jesus). God is perfect. God and sin cannot coexist.

  • That is nonsense. If God exists, and is the creator of the universe, then he created sin. Without God, there would not be any sin. He could have chosen to omit sin when creating the universe. He did not. So, if you believe in God, you must naturally believe in him as a sadist, making the world the way it is. Only if you doubt God, you will find a reason for fighting against sin (after, of course, defining for yourself what "sin" actually is).

  • sigh here we go again. God never created sin or Hell(which is disobedience to God/the result of sin respectively), its what happens when we choose to disobey him. God made the world perfect. We screwed it up with sin. Thats how the world ended up like it is today. You know why he gave us the free will to either obey or disobey him? Because He wanted to create something He could truly love. How could we possibly love Him if we had no choice? Thus He gives us free will. The angels had free will

  • until Lucifer and his followers decided to disobey God. Since God cannot coexist with sin, they were sent to Hell(which really, when you get down to it, means no longer in the presence of God or cut off from God). God still wanted something He could truly love, so He creates us. This time however, even though we did sin, He gives us a second chance: Jesus. So that this time we can still choose to obey Him and love Him without worrying about being cut off like the angels. And as for your last

  • sentence, that truly is nonsense.

  • Go preach somewhere else.

  • the idea of god is perfect. the idea of perfect is something only god can comprehend. god is not perfect, we cannot comprehend god or perfect

  • A certain colorblind person cannot see green. Only other people can see green. Therefore the grass is not green.

    fail logic is fail

  • loool i like your comment man ur right hey am ganna be ur friend hopefully

  • And you are ;) greetings friend ;)

  • @PETROforeverCRO greets from arabian

  • @PETROforeverCRO I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.

  • @PETROforeverCRO Allegedly a true story. Inarguably a historical piece. But man - it's a Youtube video. Settle down!

  • @PETROforeverCRO

I agree. The real Vikings would be disgusted if they could see how the Neo Nazis have hijacked their noble culture and perverted it for their own ends.

  • @PETROforeverCRO I agree!

  • vikings were not marrying ?

  • Yes, they did marry but the idea of faithfulness wasn't the same fro them as the rest of the world. Adultry belongs to the Christians and muslims. Vikings gave their women more rights and expected them to be warriors as well, so fooling around was a common thing for them to do. Life was after all, fairly short back then.

  • No doubt it was short with all the sexually transmitted diseases that would have killed them for their immorality! marrage was instituted between 1 man and 1 woman when God made adam and Eve. You can snarl and bark at my comment but screw around andyou will pay for your evil.

  • Also adultery is not only evil for Christians and Moslems, its also in hinduism, buddhism and most folk religions. heck its even in Communism. monogomy is a universal concept that should be practiced by all nonperverted people. Again im happy to stir the pot LOL , you will just have to deal with it. Oh I forgot the Jews too but thats because they are a wee tiny small religion.

  • Even Wolfgar son of Baronegar has been used in a series by R.A Salvatore. But Wolgar was a strong Barbarian that had a magical hammer as a weapon.

  • Crappy! Hell no it ain't!

  • The animated-movie 'Beowulf' was a crappy version of Beowulf

  • no it wasn't

  • I wish someone would make a videogame of this. Or a mod. Oblivion and Morrowind have the ingredients...

  • the one eyed old man cracks me up...lol he talks so funny

  • Although, alternatively, with the bear references and mention of the glow wurm, it could just be the untold story of Teddy Ruxpin.

  • lol Teddy Ruxpin had an airship you nub

  • This movie i think is based on beowulf the story not the ani movie

  • It's based on the Michael Crichton novel 'The Eaters of the Dead', which is in turn an interpretation of the Beowulf saga.

  • "Fear profits a man nothing."

In most things, yes indeed. Good advice.

  • wow, they really took a lot of things from beowulf, such as unferth killing his brothers as well. They even took obvious names from beowulf like wulfgar and hrothgar. very good movie, i just never noticed all the beowulf elements the first time i saw it

  • Tha it because the book was michael chriton 's version of beowulf

  • Love this film!,watching too get me in the mood for Viking Battle for Asgard
