an elephant could easely kill those people if they hurt him. ive been to a show and there was noe sign of fear in ther eyes when they did trics. (my english is bad) if their eyes becomes wery white when they do trics it's a sign of fear. but those elephant lookt like they were having fun. the whip etc is just for help, they don't hurt the animals. i was so lucky to have a hug from one of the elephants. they are so kind. people should do a littlebit more research before saying something like that

jeg vet ikke om du er norsk or english, but! in cirkus merano they treat people and animals good. if you go into a stable with horses you will see that people are using a wip as a helping hand, i know that most cirkus treat animals at the worst, but not Merano, they have most animals and they all have a very good life..

if you are going to take someone down you can start with the cirkus who have bears and tigers, why? they hit them! they punish them! families like to watch animals!

In animal training there is too much SMOKE and MIRRORS! If you would like to learn more about ethical training, contact me through youtube. I am in no way advocting animals in circuses... I think that it is un-nessissary and that circuses find it almost impossible to provide the animal with the needs he requires... Howvever a study soon to be published in Denmark will settle the issue of animals in circuses (I hope)

Here the female trainer seems to be applying negitive re-inforcement very effectivelty. However the male trainer seems to be applying punishment... which will just adrejalise the animal. Digging the bull hook into the animal is punishment as is whiping the animal. In training we must apply the lightest possible cue and then increase the pressure quickly (thus the animal learns the light cue!!). With some modification to the training method here it would be greatly improved from a welfare stance.

I would like to suggest that in animal training there needs to be understanding. I would like to just illuminate something as a horse trainer. There are two main ways of training. Positve re-inforcement (additive) where something is given when the correct behavior is offered to a stimulus. Negitive re-inforcement (subtractive) where something is removed when the correct behavior is offered. Both can be used together and are not cruel, if applied correctly!

I do not dispute that animals should be kept in natural environments. However if they are trained in circuses they should be trained by the best means possible. I am anti-animals in circuses but I am also a horse trainer and a scientist. I await reasearch being published in Denmark before I fully judge circuses as cruel.. Kindest regards,

@brendangwbergin Animals in Circus can be equally ethically trained as the Horses you train. Don't judge Circus based on a small number of clips made by organisations hell bent on closing down all forms of animal-human interaction - including yours.

I am deeply involved in the study you mentioned in Denmark. The only thing I want from the study, is that individuals are accountable for their actions - not the whole Circus world, the vast majority of whom give great lives to their animals. Today, a Policeman in the UK goes on trial for roasting a dog to death for 7 hours in a car-rightly so, yet there are no public calls to end dogs in Police work - rightly so. If that had happened in a Circus environment - I shudder to think.

@brendangwbergin The results of the study were announced last year. They were largely positive - which annoyed animal rights groups. All the animals were found to be in excellent health, and well stimulated. There is to be regulation, guidelines and licensing in Denmark - same as Germany, France, UK, Belgium and Holland. Cases will be treated individually, and extreme cases such as "Anne the elephant" would result in a prosecution, and loss of license for those involved-not the entire industry

Cirkus Merano regarded as a pioneering company in many areas. We were the first cirkus in Norway who began to run power from their own units. We were first out to boost the use of a tent construction and the first in the world with moving spotlights. Only the Rolling Stones used the same light construction on their European tour in 1991.

That is not true. I am a journalist and once made a story about a remarcable case were the training was made with sweets and games, were owner and elephant are true friends and the elephant clearly has fun with the tricks. They are freelances and only perform in Chirstmas, the rest of the year the elephant runs free in a french farm. The people in this video are ignorant, have no respect for the animal because they see it as moneymaking instrument, not a friend. But there are cases like that.

I agree these animals belong in the wild, but in the case I am refering to, the elephant was adopted as a baby after it's mother got killed by poachers in africa. At that time 25 year ago, was hard to find help from an institution in that region of Africa, so time went by and the guy ended up keeping her as a pet.
