Re China/melamine.. the US is fortunate that soy additives are "harmless" in the sense that it doesn't overtly kill ppl. It is cheap additive to provide bulk and increase price. Oh, unless you consider abetting obesity harmful. [FYI: 20% of what the average American eats is soy. Ul be surprised if u read labels on even chickens and steaks]

Soy is natural and healthy in reasonable amounts, much healthier than meat proteins, so long as you aren't allergic to it. The thing is, Soy is a very common allergy, and you shouldn't eat too much of it. Another problem is that soy is being fed to livestock combined with hormones and antibiotics in order to produce as much and as cheaply as possible. We are a shitty species!

There is this melamine thing going on. It is the kind of thing where a food producer adds poison to the product, because then he can get a raise in pay.  Chances are all the people who use the product won't die, but some will? There are complxities and indifferences, in civilized living. Somehow money always seems like the most important thing.
