Just been listening to this & came to find the video.

There are certain things about this stuff I like, but I can never shake the impression that behind all the masks and ritualistic stuff, Pearce doesn't really mean it. Like he makes free use of symbols and images from various ideologies, but more as a way to try & appear cool or significant, without any real depth behind it.

For me the Current 93 stuff has a real profundity, the sort of thing that is only simulated in DiJ.

If Pearce's interest in Germanic esoterica is genuine enough for her, it's genuine enough for me. Secondly David Tibet has lots of silly songs. Have you heard the Current 93 song "Crowleymas?" Thelema is pretty much an amalgamation of the paradigms Crowley explored. He even ripped off the title for his "new aeon" religion from an obscure Renaissance philosopher.

Yeah, there are some silly David Tibet songs, and even on some of the good ones his voice can be a bit silly. But there is a genuine poetic sensibility of his own that emerges from time to time. With DiJ I just see an arrangement of other people's symbols. In a sense like Pearce is a producer more than an artist.

DEATH IN JUNE is maybe the most innovative, and underrated band in both the 80's and 90's. Most the80's, thats when their best recs came ... in my opinion. Not to mention their covers. The 1. 12" has a pic. of a german bunker. The bands name ir "carved" on brown background. State Laugter 7" , brown with totenkopf in gold in the corner . And so on.
