Germany and Japan are doing very well in terms of the economic meltdown. Also, slaves were used on plantations when farming was one of the main sources of the U.S economy. Farming doesn't provide much money for the U.S.A in modern times as countries are being more eco-friendly and not importing as much food.

Lastly, where do you suggest the U.S gets slaves from? You couldn't have them live in the way that African slaves were made to live in because of human rights.

The problem wasn't deregulation, it was regulation from Government intervention in the first place with lenient loans backed by the government. Had it been the Private Industry the banks would not have had incentive to hand out loans to people who have trouble with Credit preventing the way things panned out.
