Im Mexican, and with respect to the US Country, I Think Satriani only wanted to be simple and straight to the point with such an important musical piece like a National Anthem. True, Vai did a bigger, louder, and more powerful perfomance, but besides, it' undeniable that Satriani is better :)

He can do it, but he doesn't know why it works, Satriani does. He doesn't just make it work, he makes it flow... like a river... seamless. Everything has a purpose.
