  • I notice someone posted a dislike of this song. What kind of moron would dislike this song?

  • Although the vocalist's name is often spelled "Skinny", it's actually "Skinnay."

  • Wonderful! Thanks for posting.

  • best sweet syncopation orch ...rememb the two LPs by Hinsight of radio lavinia soap hour 1934 w Hal Kemp

  • If you want to hear remember My Forgotten Man from the 1933 movie Golddiggers of 1933 its on YouTube as sung by Joan Blondell.

  • @Georgewos I have seen it but don't care for it. It does not have the feeling like the other versions I have heard. Thank You

  • Anyone can answer this question?

Would this song...be played on the radio in 1934?

  • thank you for posting this - do you happen to have the B side, "Lamplight" with Skinny Ennis? Sure would love to hear that again!

  • I sure do and will try to post it in a few days.

  • The flip side on mine is A Heart Of Stone

  • That's the flip side of the Victor version...this fellow posted the original Brunswick recording from 1934.

  • There was someone with a Hal Kemp video that got taken down..the song was his version of My forgotten man. If anyone has this song, can they please put it up.

  • @mooneepondskid If You're thinking of the song Remember My Forgotten Man from the Golddiggers of 1933 its on YouTube sung by Joan Blondell

  • Dukesgal thanks for visiting my channel. I would also like to invite you to become a subscriber to my channel. Thank You

  • Great recording!!! Skinny Ennis was a true original!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • listened to this back in the 50's when i found a bunch of records and was first exposed to This, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Goodnight, My Love by Ella Fitzgerald, Ol' Rockin' chair by Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden, etc.-i was an early rock N' roller but this stuff from a different generation totally knocked me out. Skinny Ennis' version is DEFINITELY the best as far as i'm concerned-now my daughter listens to and appreciates the tunes that represent Pop Culture from a timeless era..GREAT SONG!!

  • Glad you liked it and thanks for visiting my channel and the comments. Would like to have you as a subscriber. I have many more Hal Kemps to post.

  • This is my favorite version of the song

  • Glad you like it and it is my favorite version too. Thank you for visiting my channel and would like having you as a subscriber.

  • I still have a number of old 78 rpm records, and this one is among my favorites. I also like the Hal Kemp/Skinnay Ennis version of "Shuffle Off To Buffalo."

  • I don't have that song but I bet it sounds great.

  • Hal kemp always had trumpets playing triplets.

  • Love the title... Got a Date With an Angel...Love the song and the arrangement and I really like your photos of all the Angels.

    Once again, very tasteful. Thanks.

  • Those are some lovely Angels! They don't come like that anymore. I bet you would fit right in with them.

  • pax41: Oops! Bowlly's version was recorded with Ray Noble 14 Nov. 1931 !

  • Still have a weakness for Al Bowlly's version, but this is a truly great one too!

  • never heard bowlly's version but I am sure the combo of him and noble would make it perfect

  • pax41: As I recall, the band arrangements are quite similar. I think both versions date from 1934, but I don't know which had priority. There was a lot of cross traffic between Britain and the US, although trans-Atlantic radio broadcasting was limited. But bands toured each other's countries: Ray Noble had an American touring band (with American personnel and without Bowlly) in the late 30s.

  • ksmp01: Skinnay Ennis, who sings this version, later had his own orchestra, and reprised this song. Hal Kemp was killed in an auto crash in December 1940. You may notice a slight North Carolina accent here.

  • Thanks for all the great input in regards to the singer and Hal Kemp.

  • Absolutely, wanted to thank you as well for the interesting background information.

  • Yes, this the original from 1934! My father's favourite orchestra; danced to Hal Kemp for years. This song has been a favourite of mine since I was "this" high! This is a nice clean copy!

  • Thanks for the comments. This copy was in great condition and did not have to be cleaned up much at all.
