There was someone with a Hal Kemp video that got taken down..the song was his version of My forgotten man. If anyone has this song, can they please put it up.
listened to this back in the 50's when i found a bunch of records and was first exposed to This, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Goodnight, My Love by Ella Fitzgerald, Ol' Rockin' chair by Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden, etc.-i was an early rock N' roller but this stuff from a different generation totally knocked me out. Skinny Ennis' version is DEFINITELY the best as far as i'm concerned-now my daughter listens to and appreciates the tunes that represent Pop Culture from a timeless era..GREAT SONG!!
I still have a number of old 78 rpm records, and this one is among my favorites. I also like the Hal Kemp/Skinnay Ennis version of "Shuffle Off To Buffalo."
pax41: As I recall, the band arrangements are quite similar. I think both versions date from 1934, but I don't know which had priority. There was a lot of cross traffic between Britain and the US, although trans-Atlantic radio broadcasting was limited. But bands toured each other's countries: Ray Noble had an American touring band (with American personnel and without Bowlly) in the late 30s.
ksmp01: Skinnay Ennis, who sings this version, later had his own orchestra, and reprised this song. Hal Kemp was killed in an auto crash in December 1940. You may notice a slight North Carolina accent here.
Yes, this the original from 1934! My father's favourite orchestra; danced to Hal Kemp for years. This song has been a favourite of mine since I was "this" high! This is a nice clean copy!
I notice someone posted a dislike of this song. What kind of moron would dislike this song?

Although the vocalist's name is often spelled "Skinny", it's actually "Skinnay."

Love the title... Got a Date With an Angel...Love the song and the arrangement and I really like your photos of all the Angels.
Once again, very tasteful. Thanks.

Still have a weakness for Al Bowlly's version, but this is a truly great one too!
