  • Thank you Frank.

  • I've spent my 2 mins silence on Remembrance Sunday thinking about the boys from my school who didn't come back from the Falklands. Yesterday for the two minutes silence I thought about my friend out in Afghanistan leading his bomb disposal squad. 4 minutes of very big thoughts. Cheers, Lesley

  • Hello Lesley...It is so sad isn't it? They are all so young. Every war, so many young men and women. I would like them to know we remember and have not forgotten them.

    We shall never forget them.

  • Very true Marylou. A lot of women served and continue to as well.

    Heart Hugs.

  • Great tribute Nancy

  • It is the very least I can do to honor our troops.

    Thank you.

  • Great Video. I just watched a documentryy on the Discovery Channel. Where one of the only 3 british survivors, spoke of the war. He is 105 years old and had not spoken of the war until he was 100. He was sked if the lives were worth losing in the Big War. He said "not a single one". Also after the war, he never wanted to see another German again. But in 2004, he decided to meet a German Veteran. And they have become friends. He asks us to remember the Germans, not just our own. hugs - Phil

  • That sounds much like my grandfather was Phil. He wouldn't talk about the war. I don't think he ever got over the horror of what he saw. I don't believe any vet could or can.

Thank you so much Phil for sharing the story you saw on the Discovery Channel.

    Hugs.

  • My dad would never speak of WWII. He did express concern over Vietnam protesters. I guess he couldn't conceive of a world where war would only be fought if necessary. Perhaps he was too decent and trusting. Never having known my Grandfathers, we didn't know anyone from WWI, but from all I've heard it was as bad or worse. Nancy, this was beautiful. Well done!

  • Your comments are always so much appreciated Liz.

I can never ever remember my grandfather speaking about the 1st World War. But he served.

    Thank you so much.

  • Added to my Veterans Day Playlist....

  • Much appreciate Pappy...

  • Did you notice YT makes no notice or acknowledgement of the day on their front page...

    Lame...

  • Indeed I did...

  • neither did any of the major news networks. BOO!

  • Very sad...although our local radio station did have a short program and one minute's silence at 11.

  • In England it's all about the Sunday now though, not so much the day itself anymore.. :P

  • Not the 11th? I am surprised.

    Hugs and thank you

  • It used to be.. of'course! But somebody thought it 'conveient' to move it to the Saturday and Sunday before.. :P

  • How very touching Nancy! All the guys on both parents sides served in WWII. Thanks for also posting "In Flanders Fields" also very touching!

  • I appreciate your comment so much Sharon.

I think In Flanders Fields has to be one of my most favored poems and not just because it was written by a Canadian. I recall memorizing it in school..and I never ever forgot it.

    Thank you.

  • Whenever I watch something like this I can't help but cry!! Tears of pride and of sorrow!! This is a beautiful tribute Nancy!! My Dad had a military funeral. As hard of a time as that was for me, I couldn't help but be filled with so much pride for the time he gave to our Country!!

    Thank you!!!

    Much love and BIG hugs!

    ~Angie

  • That must have been and still is a hard thing for you to go through or remember Angie. But you must be so very very proud!

I give thanks for men such as your father.

    Heart Hugs~Nancy

  • What a lovely tribute Nancy.

My Uncle died in WWII and my brother

    fought in Vietnam.

Beautiful photos. Brings a tear to my eye.

  • Thank you Moomay.

My grandfather, an ambulance driver in WW1 in England, met my grandmother, a nurse there.

    We called him 'Poppy'.

During WW11 my parents entertained the troops at bases across Canada and the U.S. as they prepared to leave.

Thank you for your heartfelt reply.
