For those that don't follow baseball, it's called a knuckle ball because of baseball. A knuckle ball is where the pitcher holds the baseball in such a way as his knuckle is touching the ball. The ball then become unpredictable. The difference is that pitchers don't use it much because the batters are often skilled enough to hit one. The goalies haven't gotten good enough to catch them. Also this must be hard on the offense too. One can't really aim the ball.

All footballs tend to knuckle a little when you shoot hard but the lighter ones are more apt to and Jabulani is a lighter ball that's why the keepers have been able to rifle them on goal kicks. They went with a lighter ball because it favors more technical players with more movement such as Forlan who had many great touches.
