I do not condone animal abuse, but I know that a sow that is allowed to give birth freely is just as likely to lay on a piglet. Baby pigs want to suckle from the sow. Sow's are not smart enough to realize that a baby pig is under them. They lay down and can crush them. I'm sorry but that is what happens sometimes. Doesn't matter if they are in a crate or not. This is not animal abuse. If anything, the crate protects them from being layed on.
this pisses me off. wat they dont show is the sows/gilts who try and eat their babies. or the fact that they have the ability to eat or drink wenever they want. also they arent in the crates for months on end they are just in the crates until the pigs can be weaned
@kingcrimson234 ok i agree with u about the crates but thats still uncalled for. dont u guys realize that if u fight fire with fire... everyones just gonna get burned.
didn't break the law?......ummm...tresspassing and B&E ring a bell?......must be nice to go from a nobody to and "activist"......all because you suckled off the tit of McCartney and took all his money ya dumb bitch....guaranteed if you weren't "rich", you wouldn't be one of these "celebrity activists".......you'd probably be working at one of these farms and have nothing wrong with it....get a life....
Another horrific situation in the so-called lives of animals raised for food. If you do not eat animal meat, you are not contributing to the support and promotion of these cruel techniques. Thank you Heather for exposing them!
hello beautiful country girl, thankyou for reminding me about that possibility when there is a lack of space with such overcrowding. Me personally, I would not like my mum or my brothers and sisters to have to be living in such overcrowded conditions and also I would not want my family to farmed and then eaten so I guess none of the scenarios above are favourable to my heart. I hope this doesnt happen to humanity and we get packed away in little cargo boxes and herded to our death. much love
Food production. There is no excuse for this. You can help. Go vegan, support the efforts of any and all who are working to expose this atrocity and shut down these houses of horror.
I agree that the pigs should be in better conditions & or free range. But showing dead babies is a fact of life, & Viva is exploiting the natural occurance as being cruel & inhumane. Human babies die at birth to you know. Whats to say that the farm was from a less fortunate country to start with. I agree with facts, not exploiting them, just cos Viva dont like eating meat.
SuckADonkis are you just misinformed or completely retarded? Research shows that more piglets survive when a mother can look after them properly. Are you saying that if that pig was in the wild she would kill them by rolling on them? Uh WTF A species like any other that does nothing but to keep a species alive and safe does that? Pigs are great at making their own beds to lie in and protecting their young, they're very intelligent unlike yourself.

In the wild sows are not nearly as large as commercial grown pigs. Not to mention that there is a reason and purpose for farrowing crate. Its not inhumane its actually good for piglets and sows, as it allows the farmer to properly examine the sow for other diseses.

i had a pork pattie for supper and it was yummy!! better not come around my hogs ill be shootin a 12 guage so look out.....ps that lysol on ur boots aint doin shit
whether the sows rolls over and squashes the piglets or not who are you to decide to cage her? It's clearly not humane even some bedding wouldnt go a miss. you just need to imagine yourself in that situation, stuck in a cage so you can barely move, with nothing but cold hard concrete underneath you and big sores and abcesses on you that no one cares about and wont help you. all i can say ''kdleal'' is that if you have raised pigs i hope it wasnt like this.
Piglets are crushed because of factory farming conditions and for our desire as a nation to eat ham, bacon and sausages. Which is why Viva! encourages people to go veggie if they care about animals.
Also, Heather wasn't doing anything illegal and neither were Viva! by filming there. Trespass is a civil matter not a criminal one
Farrowing crates are not about protecting piglets - they are about protecting profits. Piglet mortality in the UK is already very high - at around 11 per cent - despite the use of farrowing crates. In the wild, sows do not crush their piglets because they build nests out of twigs and leaves which protect them. Piglet mortality is also lower on outdoor units - but that costs more money.

Sorry viva. Your propaganda doesn't work with me. I've raised hogs and I know exactly what happens to the piglets when the sow is not restrained from laying on them.
And if you think there is nothing wrong with illegal trespassing, then you wouldn't mind if I let myself into YOUR house in the dark of night "just to look around".
BTW, the ham I ate for dinner last night was delicious!

farrowing crates are required because they make it much easier for the farmer to rape the pig when they can't go anywhere.

What Heather "forgot" to mention is that without farrowing crates, every time the sow rolls over, several piglets are squashed.
The death rate of piglet litters without farrowing crates is usually 80-90%.
Oh and I love how she keeps claiming, "we're not doing anything illegal".
I guess she doesn't consider trespassing illegal.
I think I'll go eat a port chop.
YUM!!!
