Yeah Kenneth Turan sucks. He thinks he can be the ultimate objective critic and just be the most professional critic by offering as little opinion as possible, but the result is just fuckin 2:11 minutes of waisted time. Fuck you Turan, why don't you talk about acting, cinematography, directing, or anything relevant.
What happened to reviewing the movie? All I heard was a summation what Woo was involved in (a historical epic) and then that it was nice to have Woo back again. Really? What about the movie?
you people are all idiots. the US version, which came out later than the Chinese edit, is edited into one movie called "red cliff", combining "red cliff 1" and "red cliff 2", which is how the movie(s) were released in china. The US edit of red cliff is basically the two other moves combined, minus a few scenes that they were able to imply to have occurred later in the movie.
this movie came out last year. LA times is just now reviewing it? Even the sequel has come out already (of which the last scene in the review is from).
was your movie 4 hours long? Possibly they combined them for your mp3 player. I've watched red cliff 2 when it came out in hong kong and I have both movies. Just to be clear, I'm talking about the scene where they collect 100,000 arrows with their boats in the fog.
it was 2 hours and about 30mins and yes i know the scene your talking about. i guess they made it one whole movie. i watched it on my xbox 360 through zune.
There were 2 movies, Red Cliff Part 1 and Red Cliff Part 2, when they released them in East Asia. The studio combined the two and released it as Red Cliff in the west.
Then you aren't listening: the film, as released OUTSIDE the US, was in two parts, EACH roughly 2 1/2 hours EACH, and titled "Red Cliff I" and "Red Cliff II". The US version is an edit of the two together cut down to about half the full length of the two as uncut.
this review lacks depth.

@L3GION7
"Minus a few scenes"!? The US release is about HALF as long as the full two-part film, which latter is some 5 hours.

no its not. The last scene in the review is from red cliff not red cliff 2. never heard of red cliff 2
Kryp101 2 years ago
There is red cliff part 1 and part 2, part 2 came out in 2009 and part 1 came out in 2008. The last scene is from the second movie.

Check IMDB. 'Chi bi (2008)' is Part 1. 'Chi bi xia: Jue zhan tian xia (2009)' is part 2.
