  • whenever i try and outline my drawings a little faster, as you suggest so the lines have a 'expression' (almost) to them, i always manage to go off the bounday and ruin it T_T

  • youre art is so beautiful

  • @markcrilley Maaaarrk, Can pleaaase make a vid about the pens and pencils and equipment that you use. Thanks (BTW im gonna post this message on your channel just incase you dont get this) =P

  • what are those markers u use for coloring? name? i wanna get yhose for my drawings..u know where i can them from?

  • @RoxasErica

Most likely those are copic markers. They're very popular and come in all sorts of colors and brands. You can get them from most any craftstore, like Micheal's.

  • @cinders1998 yeah but Copic markers are like $10000000000 a marker (not really , maybe $4 a marker) :/

  • bakano

  • I'm always like "NO, don't do that!, don't do that, you'll ruin it!" but he just gets it PERFECTlooking EVERY time! love you mark, super helpful videos!

  • OMG i wonder who put that note there

  • what the duck is she doing

  • what exactly is "guash"?

  • @vista59 It's spelled "Guoache". I know weird. Guoache is like water colour just but it doesn't wash off as much as water-colour when you do a drawing and it gets wet...I think. Think of it as better water-colour.

  • These videos are great! You kept mentioning your college proffessor, I am a Freshman Art major, but I am having trouble choosing the right concentration for me, if you don't mind saying so, what happened to be your Major/Concentration?

I want to do great just like you!

    Thanks again

    Pengu

  • You don't use a manga pen?

  • Hey...

I think you're amazing, just wanted to know ... umm.... how many years of experience you needed? I can draw... but... Its not always to the quality I would like it to be. I was just wondering cause' I would like to do a comic book one day. :)

    thx for uploading those vids.

  • thank you for this video helped a lot.

can you also use a sharpie pen???

  • i love your technique! i mostly use chalk pastels and colored pencils(prismacolor) but i have always wanted to try water colors... thanks for the tutorial! maybe i'll be able to use this information one day!

  • You know mark, the fact that you can take 3 or 4 or 5 different tools and combine them in one image, in a way that doesn't look like some patchwork, really speaks to a true mastery of art. Being able to use each tool to complement the others is really impressive, bravo. :)

  • Plzz make a tutorialnto show how u do tht collar! I rly want to learn it! Thx :)

  • i love how it turns out with those pens!!!

  • me to its nice

  • yeah and the thickness he uses!

  • It sucks being able to draw like this but not having all of the materials necessary! The best art supplies cost a lot!

  • i feel you :\

  • so would crayola watercolor markers b some sort of water color markers and i think i have a pen like the one your using.

  • thx so much no I know what to do when I finish paining...Thank so Much Inifinite

  • beautiful...Mark, you are awesome!

  • -eyes pop out-

    JEALOUS D:

my parents refuse to buy me Miki Falls for Christmas -_-"

they say my mark crilley book/art obsession is just a fad, and it'll pass.

    IT'S STILL NOT PASSING D:

  • lol same with my mom and naruto

  • tell them a kid in australia ( me ) also wants it and it isn't even heard of yet here!

  • *here yet, soz bad grammar

  • haha good to know others are feeling the same ridiculous pain i am xD

  • ditto!*sigh*

  • pshhhh parent have no understanding of how addicting manga and art can be!!! tell me about it *sigh*

  • @nyaachan411

so i'm not the only one -_-

  • So natural

    i wish i can fast outline =)

  • Lol Pigma Micron isn't exactly my berol fineliner... XD

  • what if your using a water-colour pens, like those markes with diff. colours. I tried using them but they show up just like markers instead of one solid colour.

  • I'm using a dip pen...

a lot harder than the pen I'm assuming, at least at the beginning. Still kills me when I screw up; haven't drawn a single picture where I have not smeared it somehow yet; still working on it.

  • Do you do any digital work?

  • what digital programs do you use?

since markers can be expensive (lol)

  • I use GIMP

    since photoshop is expensive(XD)

  • wat type of watercolors do u use

  • whenever i try to paint mah drawings, it turns into a huge, blotted mess! lol ^.^

  • add more time and if ur not already try using a smaller brush and detail

  • thank you!!!!

  • i want to lean this type drawing but in photoshop cs bcuz i want to lean how to draw stuff like this in photoshop great video and i like thanks for uploading it

  • Does anybody know how to ink with a g-pen (manga calligraphy pen)? I bought one because I wanted to try something new, and all the artists of the manga I like to read use them. But when I got mine, I realized I didn't really know how to use it! I'm getting better at inking with it now, but it would be nice if someone could show me how to do it correnctly!

  • can u show us how to draw Miki?

  • Yeah, it probably is smooth bristol for this illustration. You can tell by the dark blue in the skirt, the surface is starting to ball up or "pulp" under the water. I guess he's just using bristol for the purpose of demonstration. But hot press watercolor paper will hold the color better without buckling or warping. It's more expensive for sure but once it's stretched, it's the right surface for the job.

  • Is he using smooth bristol to paint on or is he painting on stretched watercolor paper? hot press, cold press? He really should say.

  • I'm pretty sure it's smooth bristol. It's what he uses for everything else, and it looks like it to my eyes anyways.

  • i use photoshop for coloring for initial touch ups and coloring.

I use the old school method just for enjoyment and making comissions for friends.

  • i love your inking style

normally when i do inks i screw up the lines..all curvy and stuff.

    this was helpfull

    thx:D

  • ^^ These videos make me happy! They helped me draw and now I don't suck anymore! Thanks Mark!

  • if you have nothing to do. Go to my channel for now I have 3 seemingly boring vids lol xD

  • awesome technique! Very good!

  • i use prisma color ink pens

  • This video is going to help me drastically! Thank you. Inking is one thing I need drastic improvement on, and this video really showed me a much better way to create varied lines. Using a thicker pen is a great idea!

  • MARK U ROCK!!! i wish u could be my teacher

  • Hmmmm... I always use Prismacolor double-point colored pens and colored pencils.... watercolors might be fun ;)

  • Its interesting that you don't use india ink and brush to ink... a lot of people seem to think it gives a very natural feel that you can't get with pens. i personally use pen too i just thought maybe you used... different equipment.

  • Wow...now im not afraid to paint now! this is awesome great job

  • Amazing, I'd never beleive that a sketch could be brought to life life that. Your the best guide to manga art I've seen to this date, thumbs up.

  • omg i have the same pens you have

  • wow dude

    you're so amazing!

  • You are amazing at inking, I'm so jealous hahaha.

  • Great tutorial!

  • This is really good i love uesing watercolors and this is very helpful. Your really good at these how to vids

  • This is by far thee biggest comblement I gave to anyone. You are Heath laddger joke version of of a artis. Love the work and the expnation.

  • Ledger**

    Joker**

    Take out an 'of'

    an**

    Artist**

=] But other than that, I completely agree with this statement.

  • these vids are really inspiring (think thats how you spell it) Thankz :)

  • you gulp your saliva a lot lol

  • what did the pen say on it and where can i get it?

  • can i ask sth???....why do manga girls always have to wear their school uniform???........i m really sick of it........they re always dressed like students and fall for some....strange guy.........anyway.........the work is good

    so i forgive ya!!.....:)

  • anna1991rna,

The reason a lot of girls in anime are in uniform is simple... most anime follow school age kids, and most (all?) schools in Japan require you to wear a uniform. So obviously if an anime shows kids either going to, in, or leaving school, they'll be in uniform.

That and some people just have a thing for uniforms I guess.

Either way, a very nice tutorial Mr. Crilley.

  • Dont schools in all developed countries require uniform? It would be mad if they didn't do that, they love to give kids the "one little shit in a million" feeling

  • In Germany they do not. ;)

  • Optional in America.

  • It's simply AWESOME!!! By the way... it's also interesting to watch how you hold drawing tools ^_^

  • Heh heh, you're advertising is so cute! Does your book sell in color and are there any more series you'll be making, maybe in the near future?

  • You're so good!! I wish I could be good too

  • u can

  • very impresive, a little tip on the shading on white for everyone that sees this "every color a cloud brings you is good for shading white" i actually do a warm-up before i graphic/sketching shading white, by drawing actual clouds i see outside my window (and by drawing actual clouds i dont mean creating them, thats God's work. lol)

  • you people? what do u mean by "you people"

    xD jk

    man ur awsome too

  • that was amazing!

  • is Miki Falls out yet???^-^

  • Dude lol Look at the time this video was made. Miki falls came out and is already done rofl.

  • I've been watching these from oldest to newest, and I love it so far :) I haven't ever really colored my pictures in before, because each time I tried it looked like crap XD It's so clever to use multiple tools ^^

  • hey i do the same as you ^^

i do the inking last because i think it stands out more :P

btw love the drawing, your a great artist :D

  • Alright..good to know i'm not crazy on using blueish tone for shadows on white clothes. The thing about black shadows is true too..though, i can't remember if I learned that on my own or from school. I dont remember my teachers ever saying something on those lines...ah well.

  • so fast!

    i love it!

  • that is not true!

i made the eyes en my parents love it!

    thank you very much!

    Juliet

  • well done you discovered human traits

i dare you not to swallow for 5 years if you swallow you die.

it's what happens when you record your voice close up

  • My god, how rude is that? He's trying to show people how to make really awesome manga. Damn, keep your idiotic opinions to yourself.

  • All in just 9 min and 6 seconds?

  • howesome ! i love you

  • Does anyone remember playing the original Smsh Bros. for the Nintendo 64? In here Mark said that artist used to use purple a lot in their shadows, so when I heard that I recalled that they used a light purple for the shadows on Link's white tunic in Smash Bros.. I remember thinking it looked really cool, but I never got around to using it in any of my work. I'm going to try out some of these techniques for myself and hope for the best, but I still have a long way to go. ^-^

  • At first I was a little skeptic about the bluish-greyish shadow, but it really did turn out REALLY nice. And even the hint of purple was a real nice touch too.

  • So gr8! Thankyou so much for sharing your talent with us all.

  • It came out 2007

  • May 1st 2007

didn't u see the date it was posted??

    xD

  • What did you go to college for?
