  • Does this spoil?

  • @LaDieeeV I wonder that too cause aloe vera gel does spoil and storing it in the frig will cause the coconut oil to solidify. I suppose it's not that big a deal, it'll all melt when in comes in contact with body heat. Definitely gonna try it though.

  • Could you please put up were you got your shea butter,Thanks.

  • It was always better to use a glass bowl vs plastic.

  • what does grape seed oil do for your natural hair?

  • @CookieBhoo a good heat protectant

    rsanter1223

  • OMGeezz I LOVE YOUR HAIR....is that ur natural hair color (super cute)....great vid very informative....how long u been natural?

  • putting ingredients in the microwave will take away its nutrients..try to put it over a boiling pot of water to help it melt or leave it in the sun for a couple hours.

  • Do you still use this moisturizer?

  • Where did you get the white shea butter from?My local hair store sells the yellow but not the white.

  • @niqniq76 She said coastal scents.com

  • Great video, the oil that u put after the coconut isn't for hair? and u said u use it for ur skin too?? I am so particular about my skin...and oh I LOVE UR HAIR AND VIDEOS

  • Hi, I really enjoyed your video. Where did you get the grape seed oil from? I've been trying to find some for a while now. Thanks :-)

  • PAUSED THE VIDEO AS SOON AS IT STARTED TO SAY YOU'RE SO PRETTY! LOL

  • and is it possible to use this on transitioning hair?

  • is it possible to use this on the scalp if i were to wear braids?

  • You're beautiful ! Natural beauty :)

  • Thanks for this very simple and great recipe. Do you apply to both wet and dry hair? Thanks again.

  • @webangelpb Yup, wet/dry hair..and the skin :-)

  • Do you find that it gets hard after awhile? I tried to make my own mixture once and it became rock hard after awhile

  • @petitemizz It usually starts out kinda liquid-y and then gets much more firm after it sets. It never gets rock hard though. Maybe try adding more oils and other ingredients to your mixture.

  • @petitemizz what oils did you use? If you make it like she did it should not become solid. If it does just warm it in your hands, it will melt.

  • Thanks for sharing, really nice, I'm gonna try it ^_^

  • ITS A GOOD THING

  • GIRL U GOT A LOT OF VIDEOS

  • how do u get loads of people to like ur video and watch ur video by the way if u want to watch a diffrent version of this then type in: butter icing recipe by HotSparkz53 plz watch u might think im selfish buut i am not it is just i have 0 views and 1 like because when i logged off i said i like it just so someone liked it im despreate plz plz watch it

  • I just have to say THANK YOU , this was the simplest recipe that i have seen , I am 4 1/2 months natural and finding the perfect moisturizer for my hair has been difficult, this mixture is light not overly greasy , most of all it made my hair super soft I thank you and my hair thanks you lol :-)

  • what are those websites for those products ?

  • Great tips do you use this just as a moisturizer, or can you use it to twist the hair? If so how does the hair feel? Small Q-tip

  • @Lv47 I definitely use it as a moisturizer for when I twist or braid my hair. It makes my hair shiny, moisturized and defined.

  • I like your video but I notice that you did not really measure anything. Why? (just curious...)

  • @AuNaturalHair That's just how I work. It's not like I'm cooking so nothing has to be perfect.

  • I don't have a hand mixer but could I whip it all up in a blender?

  • can yo maake a video on how the texture changes after a couple of days/weeks??? or do you already have one???

  • DID ANY OF THE INGREDIENTS HAVE PRESERVATIVES & IF NOT, HOW LONG DOES THIS KEEP?

  • Can you list the ingredients? I did not catch the last type of oil you used. Believe I heard Grapesee oil? LOL!

  • @Mrknapper1982 ... IT WAS JUST A PINA COLADA FRANGRANCE OIL. THEY COME AN LOTS OF SCENTS!!!

  • @Mrknapper1982 ... IT WAS JUST A PINA COLADA FRANGRANCE OIL. THEY COME AN LOTS OF SCENTS!!!

    INGREDIENTS:

SHEA BUTTER, COCNUT OIL, GRAPESEED OIL, ALOE VERA GEL & FRAGRANCE OIL.

  • @ISingAlto Thanks sooo much ;)

  • Thanks for sharing however I mixed the last type of oil you used. Grapesee oil (is what I think I heard) can you please list all the ingredients for me?

  • This is a great homeade conditioner. It's a little heavy but it has a whole lot of moisture I thought that I could use it as a cowash but it's to heave I had to wash my hair after. But I let mines sit overnight. Next time I'll just use it while sitting under the dryer.

  • Does the shea butter go bad if you since you didn't put a preservative? or do you just keep it in the fridge?

  • @cocotweety Hey, I never keep it in the fridge and I've never seen any of my mixtures go bad.

  • I enjoyed your video. I'm new to the natural world and looking for new ways to take care of my hair..I like this method and may even try it

  • I normally don't oil my scalp because I wear it curly. But during the winter months it gets extremely dry. Can I apply this directly to my scalp?

  • @cynthia917 I think this might be too heavy for the scalp. My FAVORITE oil right now for the colder weather is Castor oil. I usually don't oil my scalp either but right now it's needed and Castor oil is something you can apply once a week then forget about it.

  • I normally don't oil my scalp because I wear it curly, but during the winter the winter months it gets extremely dry. Can I apply this mixture directly to my scalp?

  • HEY I SUBSCRIBED, COMMENT AND RATE TO YOU BECAUSE I THINK YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT!! LOVE THEM!

  • How much did that shea butter cost...it's alot.

  • you could buy 5 lb of raw clear shea butter for 18.00 at sunaroma.com

  • How do you store your bulk shea butter?

  • @MsMyreality I keep it in a zip lock bag usually in a small box in a cool dry place.

  • Thanks! I really need a moisterizer for my 4c hair

  • Excellent Tutorial! How do you store the remainder of the Shea Butter to keep it from going bad & what do you use to keep the bacteria out of your mixture? I know some of the YouTube sisters use tea tree or vitamin E for keeping out bacteria.

  • where do you get your shea butter?

  • she got it from coastal scents @MsSassyHair

  • @successfull88 Thanks!

  • Do you put the mix on your hair when it's wet or dry?

  • @samillien You can use it either way.

  • You said you were looking for something really mositurizing. Have you tried kimmaytube's leave in conditioner mix?

  • @prec18 No I have not.

  • Thanks sooooo much for this video!!!! I did the big chop two months ago and have been looking for something to keep my hair moisturized and THIS IS IT!!! I made it today and love it not sure if i did it right just thought it would have made more, (i used a 10oz package of shea butter) but still love it.

  • can u make a video with you using the mixture for twistouts, braidouts, etc. please? =)

  • Someone asked for this, but I didn't see an answer. Could you give the measurements for the ingredients?. I would love to try this, but would lke to know how much of each ingredient you used. Love this video.i

  • @phoebesfan Unfortunately I don't measure anything. I simply mix it, test a bit out on my skin and from there decide if it needs more of something.

  • I just tried making this mixture. It was a little difficult since we don't have a microwave (the shea butter melted too quickly on the stove and was still hard in the middle) and my coconut oil was really hard because it was in the fridge and it took a while to blend the two together, but it came out amazing. Its the most moisturizing thing I've ever felt. I'm going to make a video response to this video. Thanks br0nzeqt! I would still be using refined Shea butter if I didn't see this video. =]

  • @xxmuzicchickxx Thanks for trying it!!

  • @xxmuzicchickxx:since you dont have a microwave(like me:)!)then I suggest putting the shea and coconut in a plastic bowl and heat that in a pot of boiling water...it takes a bit longer but the result is even heating so you won't get the solid center you spoke of...

  • @princesskaha thanks! i actually did it that way a few weeks ago when I made some shea butter for my sister and brother in law. it worked perfectly. =] who needs microwaves, right? lol

  • what would happen if I didn't add the aloe vera? How long would it last?

  • Can you give like the measurements you used for the 1lb. of shea butter (so like how much of the oils, and aloe vera gel you use)?

  • @waffigrl .. ditto, thanks for the video but would really really like to know measurements of ingredients...=)

  • great video! I'm considering buying unrefined shea butter now to try this out! I do think its kind of funny though how you made it all natural and topped it off with a synthetic fragrance. I think essential oils are a lot safer. I'm going to put a reply to this comment with some info on "fragrances"

  • @xxmuzicchickxx from an online article: "Fragrance oils are combinations of synthetically manufactured chemicals designed to "mimic" the aroma of natural materials. Far from "natural", 95% of the chemicals found in these oils are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, and include chemicals such as benzene derivatives, aldehydes, and others capable causing cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders (CNS) and allergic reactions."

  • Thanks for sharing! I have saved this vid to my favorites because I plan to revisit shea butter mixes for my hair after I use up my Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding and Shine and Define.

  • i dont know if you know about vitacost.com but it has most of the same products as iherb but a couple dollars cheaper usually

  • @lolafitzgerald Thanks for the tip!

  • @lolafitzgerald I read that their product is part of fair trade so we should spend the extra small amount to help the small farmers of Ghana. They are co-operatives I believe.

  • great video. I made some shea btter moisturizer in the past but I like to store in glass not plastic since glass isn't pourous. Or I put them in tupperware it's PBA free!!! And Naptural85 has a cool way of filling your jars even faster....scoop your mixture into a plastic bag then cut a hole in the bag and squeeze it out kinda like a cake decorator. But i think i'm going to try adding the fragrance!

  • Thanks for sharing. I have to try it.

  • Very impressive! Thanks for showing us your homemade shea butter mosturizer.

  • I'm considering buying some shea butter from coastal scents but I have one question. In your opinion how well does their shea butter work? I saw some from ghana and it was kind of grey in color and it smelled smokey. I couldn't even smell any nut. Thank you for your vids

  • @tweetybirddee This is my second time purchasing shea butter from CS and it has always been a positive experience. I like it because it tends to be heavier and more moisturizing that a lot of hair lotions that I find in stores. You also have to keep in mind that the characteristics of shea butter will vary. Thanks for watching :-)

  • Awesome tutorial!!!

  • Since you didn't put any preservative in your mixture I suggest you should store the jars that you won't be using right away in your freezer.

  • @Evlyy Luckily everyone in my house steals a jar as soon as I make it. Thanks for your suggestion though :-)

  • @Evlyy I am interested in making some myself, what's a good natural preservative to add to the mixture?

  • doesnt the aloe vera gel separate from the mix? i will love to add it to my mix. i have aloe juice will that work?

  • @BEAUTIFULJUNE3 I never have a problem with separation, maybe because I don't use a lot of aloe vera. I think aloe juice will work fine.

  • @br0nzeqt Make sure the aloe vera gel/juice has perservatives, or is the kind that you can drink. I found that my home mixes last longer when I use the kind that u can drink (already has peservatives).

  • ONE QUESTION: Does it stay soft that like forever or does it get semi-hard?

  • @TheRealShortyBrown It does harden a little bit, but it's still way softer than shea butter in its natural form.

  • Thanks for the video. I'm going to try this!

  • Thanks for the video, love the hair! Will be trying it tomorrow :) I love YT and the natural ladies.... such an inspiration. Okay, leaving now LOL

  • Thanks so much for sharing. This is very easy. I've always wanted to know how to make my own shea butter moisturizer. Saves money!!

  • I really enjoyed watching that! :-)

  • Great tip I used it and it wonderful!

  • Great recipe! I made my own whipped shea butter a while ago using olive oil, tea tree oil, aloe gel, and curl activator gel (cuz i could find glycerin that I thought we had in the house *lol*). I think the aloe and curl activator gel is what made the mixture moisturizing because they contained water.

  • WOW! We have that same exact hand mixer! Had it forvere too and it's still kickin'!

  • @empressm6 LOL that mixer is probably as old as I am.

  • @br0nzeqt...haha yup me too

  • great vid! i agree with you shea butter is really the best thing for hair. no need for any other expensive products.

  • great vid! shea butter is sooo versatile.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I've tried making my own whipped shea butter mixture a couple of times. Each time I noticed after a couple days, the mix felt "gritty" when I would rub it in my hands before applying it. I think it was from the shea butter. I know it was not the coconut oil. Have you experienced this? Maybe I wasn't using the best quality shea butter?? I'm going to try once more using your suggestions here. Hope it works this time. Thanks:)

  • @1221tam If you heated up to make the whip that could be the reason. When Shea butter is heated and cooled too rapidly it becomes grainy bc crystals form as a result of rapid cooling.

  • I am going to try this.

  • SOOOO gonna try this! I love your channel thank you!!!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm dfinitely gonna add to the arsenal

  • Thanks for the video. I love the different hairstyles you do. Can't wait until my hair is long enough to try some. How do you store the block of shea butter after you cut into it?

  • @freluv34 I put it in a giant zip lock bag and put it in a box in the pantry where it will stay cool and dry for later use. Thanks for watching :-)

  • I made my own but I didn't think about adding "Aloe Gel" hmmm tha'ts going into my next mix !! thanks girl!!!

  • Great video. i have the same questions as GlamT84 - wondering if you keep it in the fridge or do anything else to keep it from going bad.

  • @BlackWomanScholar Thanks for watching :-) I don't keep it in the fridge, just in a cool dry place away from water

  • girl! you look so naturally beautiful! keep up the lifestyle!

  • @ebonymargaret Thank you! :-)

  • That package of shea butter is massive LOL. Good video, THANKS!

  • Do you find that the aloe vera gel separates from the rest of the mixture over time? And, does this keep well (no mold, mildew, etc)? I've been adding soy lecithin as an emulsifier for my mixes and a host of other products such as (tea tree oil, vitamin E, etc) for bacteria. If your product doesn't separate or grow bacteria, I would so much rather do it your way - Watching other youtube vids has me paranoid about these things, lol.

  • @GlamT84 I've never had a problem with my mixtures separating or molding over time. I usually use a jar within 3-4 months and I never have any problems. :-)

  • @br0nzeqt OK, I'm going to try it your way and let you know how it goes...this will be sooo much cheaper on my pocket book! I actually enjoy making these mixtures and have started making them for friends & family but I don't really know what I'm doing, lol! Thanks for your response..Happy 4th

  • Thanks for uploading this video!

    You're awesome

  • have you ever tried olive oil for moisture? its my favorite oil to put in mixes and stuff :)

  • @jesssimae I'm not gonna lie, I was eyeing my mom's olive oil on the kitchen counter as I gathered my supplies. I will try that next time :-)

  • That is a big block of butter. I am going to try that brand and your recipe. Thank you for sharing.

  • never seen that much shea butter before! hahaha

nice recipe, ima hafta try that once i'm done with my other products
