@kungfuquincey, after recently stumbling on an awesome article on basically all things Speed Racer at ScifiJapan, THERE WAS A CHIM-CHIM!

BUT... there's a catch.

He appears later on in the series (as in the Japanese-released episodes, episode #20) and his name was changed to Rocky instead of Sanpei (Chim-Chim's original Japanese name). Not to mention he looks different because he is now a young African Lowland Gorilla.

Despite some sacrilegious changes (NO CHIM-CHIM!!!) I really enjoyed this series, but never saw the end of it. Rumors say that Nickelodeon didn't transmit the final episodes (that's the type of shit I'd expect from Cartoon Network).

Still the few episodes aired were WAY better than the Next Generation crap.

Although, I can't remember if this show was part of their "Slam" programming block or not. You know, when they showed Super Duper Sumos and MIB. I seem to remember a CGI Speed Racer driving on walls.

I have to admit, that speed, and racer X look better, but they totally destroyed the mach 5. I'll stick with the original , although i do have to say, this was pretty damn good. But the mach 5 has jump jacks, not thrusters. It isn't that pussy KITT that was patterned after the greatest car ever thought of and designed.
