I can't really say they are the best, but they are recognized as most intelligent, take away the long coat, the minority of hip dysplasia and eye problems, and give the dog a little more muscle, and that's my idea of the best dog ever, but I guess it's about your personal opinion. I plan on breeding my own lie of dogs, and I definitely will use border collies and kelpies as the main foundation stock

hi there, i really enjoyed your video! my partners family have a 6month border collie cross whippet. Sadly they picked the wrong breed for thier lifestyle & so the dog isn't getting the right mental & physical stimulation. I visit often and do what i can for the dog whilst im there.
Over the summer i will be home from university. Do you think that agility would be a good route to take this type of dog? Also, is approximately 9months a good age to train a dog to do agility health wise? thank you!

Love the video. Very few Australian Shepherds have naturally bobbed tails. Blue Merle is not a natural color in BC's Some how the genes got in there. ALL dogs are intelligent. It is the owner/ handlers that bring it out in the dog. BC's are easy to train because they are intense. But when you start training other breeds with treats you get dogs that are as smart as BC's - maybe not as FAST, but as smart.

@easyitsashley In fact many kennel clubs have a standard. It is only the working clubs like American BCA and the CanadianBCA that a visual standard is not accepted. In fact neither of the above will allow you membership if you show BC's in conformation. If you do your research you will find out that the merle gene was introduced into the BC. This was likely done for show Aussies and BC's are very similar so a cross to introduce the gene could occur and it would be very difficult to notice.
Awesome video! I have a poodle mix dog that im in agility with. He's just as smart as any dog in the world i think! Everyone would think their dog is the best and they are right. It's a matter of opinion I think. BC are amazing breeds, and i wish to own one some day. My dogs could compete! lol

I'm sick of people getting these dogs, thinking that they can just sit around the house and do nothing, and the dogs tear up the home, and the irresponsible owner blames it on the dog. That is how these great dogs end up in shelters.

My goldens go just as fast a borders. And when you say Border collies are the best, thats your opinion not a fact. Some borders are to fast for their owners, which isnt good unless they have good distance work on the course. Every owner says their dog is the best! Even though someone else might not think that.
I have to say a german shepherd compaes to a collie & a husky german shepherds are very intellegent giuck + great agility dogs & great with kids & huskies arent the best liseners but they have strewnghth to pull a sled speed for agility & great jumping for agility & amazing with kids (experience with both) But on the reecord I Love border collies too they r very cute
i have run both shelties border collies a alot of breeds you can think of I ran a border in agility for 7 years and now i have my sheltie and i still love running the borders everynow and then but right now shelties got my heart
I have a b/c he is great. extremely easy to train, they are classed as the smartest but also the most destructive dog, if u dont spend time training and exercising he will be the worst dog in the world....

100% agree-borders are by far the best dogs out there. Anyone who disagrees has never had one or is jealous because they don't have one. I've had several different breeds-NONE, and I mean NONE compare to the BC. You won't get any dog smarter or more agile than a border. I got my first BC (well, apparently he's a mix but shows no other traits than BC ones) earlier this year. He's 9 months and knows ~45 tricks. Everywhere I go people tell me how stunning and well behaved he is. Doesn't get better.

To start with, clearly the old woman in the video is touching the dog...
But any ways, no one dog is "the best". While Border Collies are ranked as the smartest dog, with poodle and german shepherd dog close behind, that doesn't mean they're "the best". GSD's have been noted as the most versitle dog, some might say that's the stuff of being the "best dog".
Next time, try to have more footage, instead of just random pictures with snippits of video.

@burqabob Probably the best looking dog I've ever seen was a black and white pitbull, border collie mix. He had the handsome face of the pit, but with less exaggeration, nice tight lips, and half prick ears, with bright yellow eyes. Muscular lean body, with perfect markings, and a long, thick tail with a nice brush with a white tip. He combined the agility and smarts of the border collie with the power and willingness to please of the pitbull, lived to be 16 years old, best dog I ever knew.
@StefyStuff :-) Pitbulls and there offspring are seen as "weapons" here. So, they really have to suffer. Nearly no one is allowed to keep one. And the tests will be easily about 2 k €. to own one. So, most of them are killed here. :-(

Border Collies are MY favorite of all canines and most likely of all animals of the world, including humans. However, they are NOT the best for EVERYONE!
So many Border Collies are surrendered to shelters, or neglected, abused, or even dumped on the side of a dark road,by people who have gone out carelessly and acquired one, only because they had "heard" the breed was the "smartest" the "best" and how "no other breed compares to a border collie.
I have a Border Collie too and she is so great. They are thought to be the smartest breed and I definitely agree. Mine is an unusual color -chocolate merel- so many people mistake her for an Aussie. All I do is point to the tail and shake my head. =) I know some Aussies have tails. Though most people fail to realize that. This video is a great honor to our Borders!

I just got my first Border Collie at 8 weeks old, he's now 10 weeks, he's already learned how to do simple commands. Sit, lay down, fetch a ball. They are truly an amazing breed, smart and energetic, will not trade this breed for no other.
I grew up with a border (she was like a little sister), they are so smart, such good listeners and are very good family dogs (if u have the room to run and things for them to do). My parents dog use to heard the lawn mower, told my parents when it was time to pick me up from school, alert us about bad weather and fetch the news paper. Borders are so smart!
i have 2 but 1 is just black and mine is a black and white 1 so yea but they are both girls but they are deffelent not house hold cuase if you have a couch BEWARE (they always chew the couch) and jump a fence so yea but they are cute i think they are 1 or 2 yrs old and they fight :(
Actuallly Border Collies are the best breed for herding and for smarts...German sheps are in the top ten, the poodle i believe is number two??? I have a BC she is smart but she is full of anxiety. I do love both breeds and my next will most likely be a Doberman tho :)
I have a golden retriever border collie cross. He's fast, furry and inteligent! They certainly are smart dogs, thats fact, but it depends on your own look at things whether they're the best ever. I think every dog is awesome! I have no complete favorite.

Well, borders might not the best. I guess that depends on your definition. But certainly the smartest. And that's proven fact. And definitely one of the top athletic breeds.
LOL at those giving me the thumbs down. My extended family have five Border Collies and they are working dogs all. Smarter harder working dogs you'd be hard pressed to find. If you want to blow their minds have two of my nieces walk in different directions on the beach. Watching 'Zara' try to herd them together is amusing to say the least.
border collies are the smartest, best herders, most energetic, best companion, one of the fastest, and one of the most beautiful dogs in the world! and they always win obedience trials, agility trials, and flyball companions. They are helper dogs, police dogs, war dogs and drug dogs. They are awesome with children and other animals.

At this weekends BC & Yukon Regional Agility Championships both the 22" & 26" classes were won by Australian Kelpies :-). Every Kelpie entered qualified for the Nationals. They are the best breed ever!

@squidattacksbus I don't think the video was meant as a personal attack to every other dog breed in the world. Some people just love a certain breed. I happen to love Border Collie's, Papillons, Boxers. To me they're all the best. So take it easy lol No one said your Fido wasn't cool :P

@squidattacksbus You're actually wrong about the Poodle and GSD being CLOSE behind. At Maturity a Border Collie will have the intelligence of a 12 year old human. The next closest is the Poodle with a 4 year olds intelligence... Then a GSD with a 2 year old. I don't see CLOSE anywhere in that.

@burqabob Probably the best looking dog I've ever seen was a black and white pitbull, border collie mix. He had the handsome face of the pit, but with less exaggeration, nice tight lips, and half prick ears, with bright yellow eyes. Muscular lean body, with perfect markings, and a long, thick tail with a nice brush with a white tip. He combined the agility and smarts of the border collie with the power and willingness to please of the pitbull, lived to be 16 years old, best dog I ever knew.

@StefyStuff :-) Pitbulls and there offspring are seen as "weapons" here. So, they really have to suffer. Nearly no one is allowed to keep one. And the tests will be easily about 2 k €. to own one. So, most of them are killed here. :-(

Border Collies are MY favorite of all canines and most likely of all animals of the world, including humans. However, they are NOT the best for EVERYONE!
So many Border Collies are surrendered to shelters, or neglected, abused, or even dumped on the side of a dark road,by people who have gone out carelessly and acquired one, only because they had "heard" the breed was the "smartest" the "best" and how "no other breed compares to a border collie.
They are high maintenance and not for just anyone

I have a Border Collie too and she is so great. They are thought to be the smartest breed and I definitely agree. Mine is an unusual color -chocolate merel- so many people mistake her for an Aussie. All I do is point to the tail and shake my head. =) I know some Aussies have tails. Though most people fail to realize that. This video is a great honor to our Borders!

@LuvBunny3296 Actually, those were mainly border collies. In fact, I did not see one Aussie. And I have won dog bowls thirteen times. It where they show you a picture of a dog and you have to be able to say the breed, group, and origin. Those border collies are called, "Performance Border Collies"

What's the biggest difference between a Border Collie and a liberal, a democratic politician, a Muslim, and a religious zealot? Border Collies are highly intelligent creatures that can be reasoned with. They are the smartest dog in the world and are smarter than a whole lot of people.

I just got my first Border Collie at 8 weeks old, he's now 10 weeks, he's already learned how to do simple commands. Sit, lay down, fetch a ball. They are truly an amazing breed, smart and energetic, will not trade this breed for no other.

I grew up with a border (she was like a little sister), they are so smart, such good listeners and are very good family dogs (if u have the room to run and things for them to do). My parents dog use to heard the lawn mower, told my parents when it was time to pick me up from school, alert us about bad weather and fetch the news paper. Borders are so smart!

i have 2 but 1 is just black and mine is a black and white 1 so yea but they are both girls but they are deffelent not house hold cuase if you have a couch BEWARE (they always chew the couch) and jump a fence so yea but they are cute i think they are 1 or 2 yrs old and they fight :(

Actuallly Border Collies are the best breed for herding and for smarts...German sheps are in the top ten, the poodle i believe is number two??? I have a BC she is smart but she is full of anxiety. I do love both breeds and my next will most likely be a Doberman tho :)

I have a golden retriever border collie cross. He's fast, furry and inteligent! They certainly are smart dogs, thats fact, but it depends on your own look at things whether they're the best ever. I think every dog is awesome! I have no complete favorite.

my opinion my dog is the best but thats because she was always there for me i lost her 8 days after i turned 16 today is two months sine ive lived without
she got paralyzed in her back legs
surgery couldnt help. :/
but i plan on getting a collie because of the intelligence and of course for frisbee flyball and agility :)

LOL at those giving me the thumbs down. My extended family have five Border Collies and they are working dogs all. Smarter harder working dogs you'd be hard pressed to find. If you want to blow their minds have two of my nieces walk in different directions on the beach. Watching 'Zara' try to herd them together is amusing to say the least.

border collies are the smartest, best herders, most energetic, best companion, one of the fastest, and one of the most beautiful dogs in the world! and they always win obedience trials, agility trials, and flyball companions. They are helper dogs, police dogs, war dogs and drug dogs. They are awesome with children and other animals.

At this weekends BC & Yukon Regional Agility Championships both the 22" & 26" classes were won by Australian Kelpies :-). Every Kelpie entered qualified for the Nationals. They are the best breed ever!
