This piece has personal connections for me. In December 1977, I was a member of the Victoria High School Band from Victoria Texas. We premiered this peice at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago that year. The composer Claude T. Smith was present for the premier performance. This is an excellent interpretation of that piece. (I am now a former music educator) It's good to see this piece in the concert band staple well into the 21st century.
i played this back in 7th grade and i love it great job guys this the first good recording i find on youtube thnx for bringing back memories(im on rong yt account mine is lando1live)
Horn needs work. Lovely trumpet and trombone soloist. The Baritone, is not a good instrument to play in the cadenza. The horn is the best, horn and flute have the best balance. I was the freshman to play the horn solo. No vibrato for flute, sounds out of tune. There is also a formata over the whole notes of the cadenza for horn. SLOWER! Notes after cadenza lagato! More first horns. Piano voice needs to be brought out. Trombones need work. Bouncy! Trumpets! No crack! LOOK UP AT RITARD! Work on AV
Eeek, why have two horns play the solo? Huge intonation problems. But otherwise, a very good performance. Great job following the conductor - made the ensemble very together. Again, overall well done. Some minor problems but as a live performance, that is to be expected.
This piece is pretty hard to tune and you guys did very well. The passing of the melody to the different instruments can be heard also. I wish our band can play this...
Loved this! The tuning was nice, and I loved the allegro section, the articulations were so crisp. The band was really together, also.
I would have taken the beginning a bit slower, though. And a little more contrast in dynamics would be nice(although that might just be the video not having great sound). All in all, a great performance, I like it!
