What exactly is the difference between a "follow up" and a "sequel"?

Because the events from fallout games do become canon history in the next ones in line, including Vegas referencing 1, 2, and 3. So since story has nothing to do with "Follow up" and "Sequel", I'm not entirely sure what the difference would be.

For example, what's Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time? Is it the CHARACTER or something? But considering YOU make the character, I find it hard to make that the reason.

That is to say, when you count the games that are similar in game play. I don't really count Tactics because it wasn't as free-form as 1 through 4 was and, in fact, games like Tactics are what -I- consider to be "Spin-offs"

In fact, New Vegas is listed under the series while games like Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel are labeled what you called "Spin-offs".

I understand what you mean that chronologically it is the fourth Fallout game. It's still essentially the same game formula and was listed as a follow-up rather than a sequel.

I should have made it clearer, spin-offs are odd deviations from the series whilst games like New Vegas, AC Brotherhood, GTA San Andreas are follow-ups rather than sequels

Numerically, yes. If you had a test with three questions proceeding each other, you could call them 1, 2, and 3. Despite the fact that the test might say "Essay" "Listening" and "Poem" or something along those lines of three different things.

As such, you can say that Fallout New Vegas is a "Spinoff" of the original series, despite the lore being canon and all the previous lore being MENTIONED throughout New Vegas which means it's not really a "spin off", but numerically, it's 4.

Easier? Personally I play on Very Hard and Hardcore mode. That game's anything BUT easy. And it's not because of the food and water issue, it's the "Only Doctors bags can heal broken limbs" and such that really screws you up. And as for Very hard? THAT basically makes the giant rad scorpions as ridiculous as Death claws when you start out and have the basic/weak weapons.

I haven't played through 3 yet, but if NV IS easier, it's not THAT much easier.

Considering how unspecific his comment was, you can never really tell how people refer to fallout games anymore.

Besides, since New Vegas is actually the same type of game as Fallout 3, most people probably think of it as Fallout 4 in their heads anyways. Not that people don't just refer to it as New Vegas, but still.

As for different developers, seems more like "Hey you guys are developing our next game, do this" to me. The game styles nearly identical, hence why I say four.

Why do Interplay have to develop a Fallout MMO, they fucking suck and so do their games.. Obviously Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas were well received despite glitches (It's a Bethesda trademark, alright?) and they clearly provide the superior, more entertaining, deeper, more emotionally engaging experiences.

Regardless of what Obsidian "Was". They can't develope for shit now. Even when the code was mostly done by Bethesda they still could not deliver a complete game. Bethesda managed to make a new game on a new engine (Skyrim) with fewer bugs than New Vegas. Obsidian couldn't make a better game even with most of the work was done by Bethesda already. But as usualy Obsidian fanboys continue to claim they are still what they once were. They are not.

And Obsidian is partly made of the people from Black Island (who made FO1 and FO2) so it's much more original in my opinion. But Bethesda did a good job making FO3 what it is, not what Black Island wanted to make, a FO2 styled FO3. Bethesda is good to but i prefer Obsidian.

Well if you read the history of Fallout. you find out that the Vaults were social experiments where they locked people into the vaults to see what would happen. and out of the 100+ vaults alot of them ended up killing each other or radiation leaked in. and the people inside turned into ghouls or worse. DIED!
