its not even close to horrid. its damien doing damien. He has a way of delivering songs that no one else can imitate and this is just the wrong choice of cover..damien speaks to a smaller audience with more intimate personal songs and this is one of those universal international songs

I think the negative comments regarding how good this cover is..are mainly coming from the big u2 fans.. ...the truth of the matter is damien rice does not do a cover by trying to sound like the original musician..it's his own style...Damien Rice style.

Damien does not try to be someone or something he isn't. That is what makes this cover unique in and of itself. I applaud him by sticking to his own style. Those who cannot see that I feel for you..and hope you find taste for originality

It's not that it's bad, it's that the vocals are rather flat. I prefer Johnny Cash or MJB's versions of One. Nonetheless, as a U2 fan, I think it's just nice to see other musicians interpret this classic in their own way. Thanks for sharing!

Really like it. If you want to listen to the original, then (like me) you probably already own "Achtung Baby" and it won't be very difficult.

However, covers that sound the same as the original are a waste of everyone's time, so I'm glad Damien didn't make it sound like the original at all.

I was intrigued as how would he cover it and I respect that he did something completely different than the original, but he just tore one of the most beautiful songs of U2 to shreds IMO. I have to go listen to the original version (of "Love is blindness") now so I can forget what I heard.... This one on the other hand I can listen to over and over again ;-)

@bretz8 IMO I like it too !!! The comments are a little strong, I guess some folk missed the point of 'cover' and just dont get it, Yes It's different but that's kinda the point right? The lyrics on songs can be delivered in all different ways, I like how Damien slowed it right down, it has a powerful and emotive impact lyrically, a softer edge.

I love Snow Patrols Mysterious Ways and The Killers Ultra Violet too, JMO :)
