I played fallout 3 first, tried to play this game, and disliked it very much, but 2 years later, I found it laying around and put it in, made me very frustrated because the auto save is a lot less often then fallout, but as soon as I made it out of prison and remembered to save, this game became My most favorite game of all time. I didn't get into this game and it's probably because of the leveling system. I'm more of a level up and distribute attribute/skill/talent points kind of guy.

That's why I enjoy TES series, you only get better at things you do Instead of being able to increase your proficiency after doing noting related to activity.

ex: "I use a sword all the time, so now I know how to use it better than before" as opposed to "I killed a bunch of guys and levelled, so now I'm a better doctor!"

@Linkthe1st I gave the game a second try. The problem with progressing your skills actively is that you will end up developing skills you don't want. You need to be aware of what you do to become efficient. I just want to play the game and choose what skills I want my character to best in. For example, after exiting the prison, I wanted to start the thieves guild quest chain. All it involves is sneaking and lock picking. When it comes down to leveling, enemies become stronger and I remain weak.

@kjc0608 Probably. Oblivion is good, but Skyrim will be coming out later this year, and I doubt you'll be able to do everything you want to in Oblivion before November.

Of course Oblivion is cheaper now than it was six years ago, so I recommend it, but it's not a 100% buy

Honestly, I hated Fallout 3 for the first 20 hours I played it cause it wasn't anything like oblivion. Then on the 21st hour I understood what the game was supposed to feel like, and I've loved it to death ever since.

@VRCkid11 First off, there are no guns in vanilla oblivion, though some can be modded in.

Second off, repairing is done via repair hammers, not using duplicates of weapons.

Finally, level up is done via skill use, not experience.

All the footage in the video is 100% vanilla oblivion, no mods at all.

And the final shot has a video effect applied to it, so it's not available in game. If you search hard enough you may be able to find a mod that mimics volumetric lighting in though.
