  • if it rains the water will run down your cord right onto you.you should have it set on a pole with your cord going down hill so the water runs away from your tarp not into it.Been there, got the tee shirt. Were all still learning & we have much to learn from eachother.Ive done this for almost 30yrs and im still learning new stuff all the time.

  • @Cumbriansurvivalist

Thanks for the tip. I do need to re make many of my early videos. Many are out of date. These were some of the first I ever uploaded.

  • @seanmulhall sorry sean i didnt notice.I should have realised as its obvious from your videos you know the score.

  • i wouldnt have my tarp like that if it rains the water will run right in to your sleeping area

  • aka what!!!!

  • When my head's down my house is theeked

  • Great set-up Sean.

  • nice.

  • This is a great set-up with a lot of room, easy to set-up to boot.

    What size is your tarp?

  • Nice vids about "tarping" what size is that tarp? or do recommend a certain size for them?

  • @subcyber they are military surplus, all the same size for 1 man use... most can be clipped together, you'll find Australian ones on ebay called hootchie shelter. other versions in surplus stores.

  • As you say Sean a good config' when you only have one high point fastening or only want to use one guyline/bungee. I have used a single telescopic basha pole for the elevated corner works a treat, plus a few other configs' with 2 - 4 telepoles (samples on my channel if your interested) Nice one m8

  • wouldn't the anticipated fire possibly melt or damage the bungie chords?

  • @enjoythewildUSA not if you keep the fire small. The heat from a fire is in the bed of coals so you dont need high flames for warmth.

  • @seanmulhall Thanks for the response, Sean. If you recall, I tried to hook you up w/ a Los Angeles T.V. producer once. Now I see Dave C with his own show.Sean, of all people, you are destined for outdoor greatness.... don't give up that dream bro...

  • @enjoythewildUSA

You may be aware Im going to the Pathfinder Gathering to as an instructor for Dave Canterbury at the beginning of August.

  • @seanmulhall - Sean this is fantastic! I wish I could go and learn from you guys. You belong in the midst of Dave and the elite so it is very exciting. Maybe next year I can get the time off to go. Good luck!

  • @seanmulhall Excellent news Shawn, I'd be pretty chuffed if I were to meet Dave C himself! To anybody, he may just be an ex-military survival artist, but to others he's a legend.

  • Not bashin your setup, but it seems kind of high. Do you have any problems with the wind? Also, where did you get such a sweet hat?

  • sweet tarp, where'd you get it?

  • @btjm83

From a friend who had come back from the Gulf. Im sure they are available in UK Army surplus stores.

  • crikey mate lets go find some gaters!

  • @ElijahDTF Fail. Firstly, that's not an Australian accent. Secondly, we don't have gators in Australia.

"Throw the shrimp on the barbie" is another stereotype. We don't have shrimp =)

  • @Lkonae yes you do have shrimp you just call them prawn

  • what would your top ten items in a survival kit be? get back to me!

  • what size is the tarp in this vid sir?

  • Its standard army issue. If you scroll through to the first comments I have given the measurements there. I dont remember them off the top of my head.

  • you should make a DVD

  • Excellent series of videos. Thanks.

  • I enjoy your videos........

  • cool man nice ..

  • tarps are way better than tents for most camping, Lighter....no seams to leak and versatile. I switch between a diamond shelter and a lean to. Build a fire out front with a reflector and stay warm all night

  • Nice set up, just peg down 2 sides and tie up from the opposite corner. I'll definatley give it a try when next out, cheers.

  • great video is this the hoochie tarp thanks

  • Thanx for the reply, im rather short 5-4 so my 8x10 should cover me and my pack very well. keep up the great vids.

  • Im only 5-7 do yours will be fine.

  • Great vids Sean, inspired me to get off my butt dig out my back pack and do an overnighter. also what size tarp is best for your favorite tarp desing? thanx keep up the informative vids.

  • My tarp/ basha is 8ft6in x 7ft, 3in. Its plenty big enough for me in this configuration. If I use it with my son then I use the setup in my Tarp Sleep System video. Then there is enough room for us both.

    Sean

  • Thanks Carl271. Tarps are reaaly versatile and can be warm if you shelter your self from the wind. As for sleeping on the ground if you can build up the floor with leaves, moss, etc to make a mattress. You will sleep better. Also if you cannot have a fire mosquito incense repellent works well.

  • This shelter is actually amazing... I am particularly picky about sleeping on the ground, but this seems an ideal shelter. I'll try it next time I go camping, especially with the fire for heat.

    Carl

  • thanks for that keep it up.
