  • I'm just starting to realize that at that time, Genesis was more of a VISUAL experience... And Peter Gabriel more of an actor than singer.

  • @Bitteulze Uhm, yeah. Welcome to the Party, Pal...

  • Phillip David Charles Collins is so hot.

  • genesis at their best

  • Steve hackett the most underrated guitarist ever

  • This is so great. What gig is this from? Is this really live?

    Extraordinário, nossa!

  • Truly wonderful - what a band! Saw them on this tour at Plymouth guildhall - then at Reading festival where they were breathtaking ( esp Gabriel ) far better than Floyd or Stones both if which I saw - wonderful memories- thanks for sharing 

  • I saw the Musical Box (Genesis' cover band) lastnight, and they performed The Lamb album. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. They performed this song as an encore and it was their best of the night. If you ever get the chance, go see them, it is well worth it.

  • Oh wow. Thanks. The Greyhound, Croydon - rammed. The sweat, the smell of exotic cheroots, the GIG! Thanks for taking me back some 40 years. Happy days.

  • What Genesis (yes Including Gabriel) Needs To Do Is Go TO Harmonix And Get THere Music In To Rock Band ASAP. Better Yes DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!! Because Any song Like This Need To BE IN ROCK BAND!

  • 0:02 guy in the audience yells Coldplay?

  • 7:43 onwards = nxt lvl

  • Peter Gabriel has the voice of God...I'm convinced

  • A masterpiece! Incomparable. They were all extraordinay musicians. Why can't i hear music of this quality nowadays? Why do we have to go back 40 years?

  • Just saw "The Musical Box" (Genesis tribute band from Montreal), and their version of this was almost as good as the original.

What a great performance and what a great song.

  • the ending of this track is absolute magic

  • Peter Gabriel è inquietantemente stupendo in questo video...

  • @You4enjoy2myself0 is there, you only have look for it and open your mind to everything

oh! and this song is amazing

  • What happened to good music?

  • Used to work for a band called Fayrewether based out of Lorain, Ohio and they did this tune it is and was unreal...great to hear it and see it again...

  • Unreal....stuff from the 70's wow:)

  • versatile Peter Gabriel can sound like both Jon Anderson and Phil Collins(a bit).

  • @ 2:14! Look at Phill Collins! LYING IN WAIT.

  • get drunk and lisen

  • a few days ago i had a miracle, i use to belive that god was actually an alien, i didnt believe in god then something amzing and scary happened to me, and now i believe in god. what does this have to do with genesis you might ask. well i cant write all that happened but peter gabriel was involved.

  • @eliteturtle47

Peter is a saint. Gabriel is the announcing Angel. OMG CRAZY.

Ok, in all seriousness, "God" didn't do anything for you, but cheers all the same.

  • Peter Gabriel's presence is so strong on stage that you can't help focusing on him, even though the image is picturing all of them together...They guy overshadows his bandmates!

  • Enlighten me, someone. Why is Tony playing guitar? Or base. All I know is that is has twelve strings, and our mellotron god is using it. 1:01

  • @TheOneEyedHound he played guitar on many tracks at least through wind and wuthering. in general, if you don't hear any keys, tony's playing gtr.

  • @jamey523 Ahhhh, I see. Well thank you very much for the answer! :)

  • fucking classic genesis luv them

  • New progressive rock coming out soon band type ''innerspaceband''

  • They were never the same after Peter Gabriel left. Does anyone know the real reason why he left?

  • @Lakepupil the rest of the band was totally unccoperative with the diffucult pregnancy petes wife was going through, they wouldn't give him any time off to deal with his life and it built resentment on both sides. with the lamb, they were in a seperate room from pete for most of the recording.

  • @moandbob thanks for that. I never bought a Genesis album after Foxtrot; they were brilliant up until then and then Phil Collins ruined them. What a sad story though.

  • @Lakepupil Oh C'mon! what happened? you became homeless?

Sorry for that. But really? man.... I myself consider their very first albums masterpieces but I can't believe you when you say that.

    Cheers.

  • @Lakepupil I asked myself exactly the same tonight...

  • 6:15 Dave Mustaine.

  • i'm not sure i it's more of this show or a different one all together but there used to be footage of Peter's little spoken word intro for this song on here. Can't find it worth a damn...

  • @edwoodboy9 I know exactly what you mean. I saw them about three times and Peter always spoke the intro. If you ever find it then please let me know. Thanks

  • @Lakepupil same for you here's the link for video with intro include /watch?v=cOxHRePU-74 :)

  • @6Vampyyri6Atanasia6 Thanks a lot :) Wonderful :)

  • @Lakepupil You're welcome :D

  • @edwoodboy9 /watch?v=cOxHRePU-74 It's a video post with the intro, It's from the same show :)

  • I liked before I watch the video.

  • Peter sings with his hands. love it

  • PG looks like a ghost.

  • And Tony Banks plays a sweet guitar! WTF Rutherford? Was that lick too hard for you?!?

  • I just turn off for a few seconds and then appears a mad man with a mask ;D

No, seriously: a very good song with a nice show.

  • @JohnPSatre That's usually his style, appearing out of the darkness in some crazy get-up. Peter Gabriel is awesome.

  • Fantastic - thank u

  • Peter created the first air hump at the end!

  • @MrMusicman456 Plus right at the end he puts the microphone where his dick would be and wanks the microphone. It's a very adult song lol, and very dark, and elderly pedophile lol.

  • Near the End Of The Song Peter Basiclly Did sonethig that Got Bobby Brown Kicked Out Of New Edition some 12 year Later

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, it's an amazing show.

  • Solo pura poesia...ancora modernissima, ancora potente...

  • I wonder how Harmonix would chart this song for Rock Band Cause I don't see this Song Below Nightmare Overall

  • 8:30

Gabriel is feeling up that imaginary ass like a pro. ;P

  • necesito un cuete urgente conchetumare

  • @Kristopful vacuous, but great point!

  • Comment removed

  • @Kristopful calm down, goddamn.

  • Wow- Peter Gabriel makes a very convincing old man. If he preformed it now, I guess he would have to dress up as a young man in first half lol.

  • Peter's voice is one of a kind....thanks

  • lo mejor del show desde el minuto 7:00... Peter Gabriel fue unico....cada de sus canciones eran un teatro diferente...

  • Completely awesome..This music is gone.....Such a shame...Peter Gabriel is the pure artist..He changed the face of music..ask Kiss

  • try shouting NOW twenty-five times like gabriel did. no one can do it

  • Great thanks for posting.

  • Gigantesco Peter................

  • Genesis songs like this are the closest music has ever come to poetry

  • Una joya. Una verdadera joya. La cagaste weón al subir esta maravilla. Felicitaciones. Que pedazo de grupo. Y esos 4 retardados que votaron negativamente, que vengan a Chile para meterles el pico hasta los cocos, por weones tontos. A jewel, amazing. Congratulations BritlronRebel. And that 4 stupid that vote negative, come here to Chile, we will fuck them til the coconuts for son of a bitch.

  • one of the greatest pieces of music of all time.

  • Semplicemente STRAORDINARIA ESIBIZIONE.......

  • Oh My God! that old man turns me on! haha

  • I really like how genesis does not play altogether exactly perfectly: They sometimes sound raw or miss beats together, almost like a loose paintbrush , never defining the face realistically, but somehow turning those little imperfections into cruchy raw bites... maybe i'm thinking too much but Gabriel here is the proof, because he has a very harsh sounding voice, almost unbearable when you listen for the first time, that somehow contrasts so beatifully with the subtle keys and guitar...

  • My all time favourite band - saw them live 5 times!! I have just been bought the book Genesis Chapter and Verse, published in 2007, and can highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in what was REALLY going on in the band all through their history. Fascinating stuff.

  • Brilliant video.

Phil Collins was a great drummer. Its a pity he started writing songs. The whole artistic spirit of Genesis was lost when Gabriel left the band.

  • @ecojot no doubt about it...

  • @PianoManKD

This was uploaded a FULL YEAR BEFORE YouTube even had different resolutions.... so I guess you fail.

  • @BritIronRebel

funny how some people have nothing better to do than whine!!!

    Thanks

  • @PianoManKD dick

  • just brilliant!!!

The greatest era of Genesis!! Steve Hacket and Peter Gabriel(the masterminds of the band) when these 2 left the heart and passion left too!!

  • @aelopoutsaklaras70 The masterminds of the band? Hardly. Gabriel and Banks were the chief writers but Hackett was little more than a tourist. He had an original sound but he was not a major player.

  • Beasts of progressive rock...

  • Gabriel is GENIUS!!!

  • ma chanson fetiche

  • Epic song.

btw, what was PG doing from 10:00 -10:29

  • @kelvin921019 Hes actually dying in fact.

  • For those who say Peter Gabriel left the band:-

Well I was at a live concert of "The Lamb lies down on Broardway ..."

Phil Collins, while playing drums, sang all through the concert...compremising Peter Gabriel (who passed the mic. to him).

Everyone there, knew Genesis and Gabriel was finished. Phil Collins ruined Genesis who were on the verge of becoming a Mega Band.

Gabriel had no choice but to leave thanks to "Buster" Collins greed for self recognition, fame and fortune.

  • @Kristopful Peter Gabriel did not leave because of Phil Collins. And Phil Collins singing for Genesis didn't ruin the band; they were still VERY popular with him. (and I don't like Phil Collins Genesis, so this is a first for me) Gabriel left because the band didn't appreciate what he did (the acting and costumes and such) and felt like he didn't belong with them, so he left for a solo career to let out his true creativity.

  • @Saiku1405 I mean no offence but you say Gabriel left the Band because the band "did not appreciate what he did.." Forgive me, but was not Phil Colllins part of the band "which did not appreciate him and his costumes and such.." After he left Phil Collins became the front man of the Band so he was a major player in this senario.

Everyone I spoke with who saw the concert said the band was gonna split. Period. I regret being harsh on Phil but loss of a unique band caused a rash bitter outburst.

  • @Kristopful Phil did not want to be the front man of the band and, to this day, he does not believe he was natural front man material for Genesis. In fact, when Peter left Phil's first suggestion was that they carry on as an instrumental group.

  • @Kristopful

    You're silly.

  • @dmny05077 Thanks for reminding me. lol :)

  • There is a an old original version of this....very early genesis Live...have it on Vinyl which is very rear..but you can get it on CD. "Geneis Live"....great performances.

  • Without words . . .

  • I´m not Adorno ! But perhaps it´s the most expressive Genesis track. Not my favorite !

Exept at the end that begins with the extraodinary drum syncopse! I saw this 12 times with the friendly help of the franco canadien musical box ! Awesome and absolutely fantastic !

  • My obligatory post for those who decry the post gabriel era Genesis -

YES! They were different. It was ALL of their doing TOGETHER for the sound changes. Rutherford was the first to "pop". A lot of other Prog Gods changed too (Asia anyone?). And did Gabriel himself put out Supper's Ready part II? I certainly don't put on In Your Eyes when I'm hankering for The Lamb. Genesis could not keep up what they were doing, period. If you don't like it, buy some Flower Kings.

  • I've Just seen the heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • while even Bowie was still 'walking against the wind' Gabriel was truly the 1st visual musical artist. The 2nd half of this song with Gabriel as what seems like an elderly molester still gives me nightmares.

  • WHAT A CLIMAX

  • Unbelievably cool. Out of all these killer musicians - Hackett is astounding.

  • @bassboy909 agree...absolutely awesome.....just listen

  • Peter is hypnotic!!!

  • Collins was much better when he just played drums... great drummer... can you imagine this band latter on if Peter had not left....

  • After such art, plastic came... Just brilliant and monumental...

  • Peter is insane!

  • what DVD is this from? I desperately wish to obtain it.

  • I LUV EENESIS!!! but it is kinda funny Peter Gabrial is humping mead air lol but i think that band is A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

  • So much of the future sound of Iron Maiden here.

  • @StartabandDuran Iron Maiden??????????!!!!

  • Who plays bass?

  • @StartabandDuran Mike Rutherford played bass on studio recordings, and in some live settings. However, on songs like this, Rutherford played 2nd guitar, and keyboardist Tony Banks provided the bass parts with the bass pedals. I think Rutherford may have had pedals as well.

  • @MattMcTMusic Ah ok. Nice how they swap instruments.

  • @MattMcTMusic On the '1972 Belgium' Musical Box video, he's playing a bass.

  • @MattMcTMusic Tony is playing the 12 string - there were 3 guitarists in the band!

  • @StartabandDuran I believe there was no bas line as such during gigs - some chords are being played on "normal" guitar.

  • @StartabandDuran mike rutherford played the bass sequences with pedals.

  • love it. The most captivating thing about Genesis is that nobody's "rocking out", they're all business: they're telling a story. Gabriel's animations are simply to tell the story, none of the guitarists are standing up and being typical rockers. There's so much seriousness in this performance and that's why it's so incredible.

  • @tarantinosnumber1fan Spot on. This was the best band I ever saw live, a flawless performance. Most/all of these musicians were classicaly trained & Gabriel was a mime Artist. There was a lot of pressure put on Hacket to stand up while playing. WTF who cared(the fans didn't) but the music mogals did. So Hacket stood up...played some...& then left the band, which started to become commercialized krap.

When promoters start messing with a band to make it more commercial, originality becomes lost

  • @Kristopful Yes, the sad truth. I'm 21, so I was never around to see these guys back in the day (saw them in 2007, and I enjoyed it, but it pales in comparison to when Gabriel and Hackett were in the band). Hell, even after Gabriel left, I would've been happy if they kept making albums like ATOTT and W&W. But once Hackett left, it was the death of the "prog" Genesis. I can't begin to express how depressed I am that I wasn't around to see guys like this back in their prime.

  • Magic music, phenomenal band, great performance.

My dream: Genesis do another tour with Peter Gabriel.

  • I was lucky enough to see them during this tour. They were virtually unknown in this country. I did my best to turn as many of my friends onto them. I also had first row seats the first performance of The Lamb Lies down on Broadway, in the US, which was in Chicago. Peter Gabriel still brings tears to my eyes at the end of this song.

  • thank You Peter Gabriel

  • thak You Peter Gabriel

  • Peter Gabriel would make an excellent thespian.

  • It,s very very very very very gooooooood song !!! Bravo Peter Gabriel !!!

  • Anyone else think that Hackett looks a bit like Tony Iommi did in the 70's without the fluffy hair??

  • magical guitar from steve hackett, one of the best live albums of the seventies by a country mile!!!

  • i brividi.....

  • This is so much more than just performing a song, this is telling a story and acting it out at the same time.

One of my favorite genesis songs ever

And what band today can sound like this live, I have heard them better, this was early 73', but still

    WOW
