That's cool. I see where you're coming from. And, I agree with your earlier statement that some people may think drum corps is boring because its not always as flashy as HBCU bands.
@jjmachuca You may be very surprised at how much some HBCU members appreciate drum corps: there have been a number of people who marched both drum corps and HBCU marching bands. Sadly, some drum corps fans had no prior knowledge of Black colleges/universities and their style of marching band before watching "Drumline." They are two different marching activities, with different histories and styles of entertainment.
@hallrc I suppose it's a bit presumptuous to paint such broad strokes about Southern Drumline members and fans. I think the movie Drumline galvanized the division between both styles and it only showed one side of the spectrum to many people outside of the activities. I guess it's not the Show style drumlines were really pissed at but we're truly pissed at everyone who has nothing to do with drumming and says, "Have you SEEN Drumline yet??!!!"
One amazing thing about Star's solo is the body movement of the horns and guard in the background. I normally dislike seeing anything but the drumline during drum solos. But Star's choreography is just epically haunting.
I'll never forget the Cadet's blowing their snare solo, then to have it followed by one of the most awesome tenor solo's ever! Star's solo gives me goosebumps every time too.
93 Crossmen was one of my fav's too. This was the season before my sophomore year of HS and we had a student teacher who taught me a bunch of these snare solo's by wrote (sp?).
i guess nobody remembers a little corps called santa clara vanguard that beat star and took top field percussion in semifinals and got 3rd in field on finals night.

There's no way the Southern College Drumlines can understand why Star won 1st place that year.
"But it's not exciting! They're not doing any backsticking or dancing or anything!"
Well, DCI fans get excited about clean beats!
