There has to be some truth in what the Doc is singing here for Zigfield said the same in his calypso in 1947 entitled 'Bandy Legs" . He sang " If you want me to fall on my knees and beg , only show me bandy leg . Sparrow sang here " I would give she any money just as long as I could see she have 2 knock knee or Bandy leg . Always remember that experience is the best teacher so the wise would take heed of the lessons imparted here . To have that bag ah sugar is the sweet desire of all men .
Thank you, marledebakkerunicorn. I first heard this song on Nevis when I was down there recording sound for a short inde film back in 1989. I recorded a good chunk of it off the local radio station and it was love at first listen. After all these years, it still sounds as fresh and ingenious as ever. I appreciate that you responded to my request.
What is also interesting here is Sparrow most likely talking about some of his life experiences, especially knowing the years when he sang in clubs like 'Pepper Pot' and 'Mirama' ...the choices of women that can be found there and the young men who were influenced by that open-teeth (gap-teeth) and bow- legged girls 'is ah bag ah sugar down dey.' Thanks for the post.
@IsDePanInMe The pleasure is all mine, I enjoy this song a lot . Only one warning for the guys out there running out to buy jockey shorts. Check if they look good on you because you might be in danger to see her running to the neighbor faster than you imagined.
