  • I love the animation of the normal suit to Varia suit. Spiderball is a joy in this game. I love the sense of exploration and isolation. Finding upgrades by EXPLORING and isolation. This is what a Metroid game should be. Not the hand-holding,retarded plot heavy, overdramatic space melodrama that OtherM was. Jesus what a shitty game that was.

  • Let me see now...

Samus starts out with 30 missiles, Morph Ball, and Long Beam.

Sometimes Samus needs to stop losing her abilities from time to time. (Restricting them may be okay, but...)

  • who else tried to press start button

  • the greatest metroid of them all

  • Gunpei Yokoi T-T

  • Other M should be the forgotten Metroid, not this. This game is great.

  • @hungryhungrymetroid

I disagree. It should never be forgotten. Gamers and developers need to remember so mistakes like OtherM never happen again. Never forget.

  • @Imgema :P Yea, good point there. I don't think we will be seeing any team ninja games on nintendo for a long time, if at all.

  • this brings back childhood memories. I also was kind of scared of this game for some reason. lol

  • I was actually slightly disappointed that it just ended. Bit of an anticlimax

  • this game reminds me when i had no worries but to beat the game when my grandparents were still alive and i could not go anywhere because i did not care about anything but playing games

  • Oh wow all the memories! I was a kid when playing this game and for a while i was scared to play it because of the music (after the first metroid kill) and possibility of Metroids coming out of nowhere! Totally in love with this and the Super Metroid.

  • It will be released on the eShop for the 3DS. :)

  • u took the big bird

  • one of the best game of all times

  • You play this game, you're in for a very long, hard game. I always got jumpy while playing this, because I never knew where the Metroids were hiding.

  • I could never beat the final boss..

  • is it true that the event of Metroid prime 3 came before Metroid 2?

  • that intro ringing is kinda annoying, i had to skip it

  • one of the scariest metroid games ever ! the metroids jump out like the aliens from the alien movies . O_o but the main theme and first area music are just the best of this game . =) but for a gameboy game it was really intense beause the areas which comes later have such fucked up music that let u think that anytime could jump something from a little corner that could kick ur ass easly . even the metroid theme is just a pure adrenalin rush .=/ but still one of the best gameboy games ever . =3

  • I picked this game up for the first time in years and cleared it in 2:43, no online maps or anything. Maybe I'm biased because I played the hell out of it as a kid, but I don't get understand people who complain about how it's supposedly impossible to find your way around.

  • @morethanonecheese

Nah, these are just modern gamers who can't play games without hand holding. Also, NES Metroid was even harder than that.

  • the music when samus starts walking (first level) sounds like the e-shop music background for the 3DS..

  • GB masterpice along with Super Metroid for SNES

  • I HATED THIS GAME. CREEPY AS FUCK.

  • Well, now that the 3DS is going to have a Virtual Console, there's a 100% chance that this game will appear as one of them, and I do really mean 100%.

  • This game rocks!!! Metroid II is definedly one of my all time favourite games. I prefer this game even to Metroid prime and Black ops ;)

  • Sorry i have a noob question, doe's gameboy and gameboy color games work on gameboy advance?

  • @92SoMaLu92 Nope.

  • @92SoMaLu92 yes, they do

  • @92SoMaLu92 On the original and SP models, but not on micro.

  • @92SoMaLu92 Yeah they should play on GBA.

  • @92SoMaLu92 yes, and you are not a noob if you dont know that

  • @ClassicHedgehog thanx for the information

  • I hope this will be on the 3DS virtual console very quickly

  • this is on tha game boy?!?!?

  • im gonna get this game :)

  • The music in the beginning is just awesome!!!

  • OMGGGGGGG!!!!!! te memories! playing this game all day when i 13.. tanks men for the video XD

  • Amazing how Samus looks like Iron Man here. I love the fact it's the one 2D Metroid game where Samus Aran sprite is the biggest and tallest ! The metroids are very well drawn and I just love the arachnus, morph ball vs ball mini boss fight with the chozo statue and the very cool design and unique fight with Queen Metroid.

A total gem of a game and a definitive must for any handleld gaming lover !

  • This game deserves a remake, i mean seriously.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 A remake what for ? It's already great like it is here, no need for remake. Play it on GB/GBC/GBA

  • I enjoy these more than speedruns, since I get to see it how I played it back then.

  • Is that the thingy from Metroid IV at 37:40?

  • Metroid II: Return of Samus is a worthy sequel to the NES' original title, the characters are more detailed and better animated, everythings here and it delivers something I like from that era: even though Game Boy games were black & white and the pixels were larger making some characters look like giants compared to their backgrounds, Game Boy games sometimes had better animation, music and/or great cutscenes not present in their NES counterparts.

  • In Metroid games it was just so easy to get lost until there came a moment where the developers were able to provide you with an in-game map, unfortunately the black & white color scheme here made most locations look very similar (sometimes even boring) and more confusing to traverse, almost everything looks the same and the music sometimes is almost non-existant, so you can't find out in which zone you are just by listening to it.

  • It also becomes very repetitive after a while, searching all of the planets maze-like caverns, hunting for those Metroid eggs and repeating the same boss encounters over and over again gets a little monotonous after a while. The last boss was OK, I guess, nothing to write home about but the ending was a little scarce in my opinion. Still, who complains when you discover Samus had to go through all that trouble while only wearing her undies?

  • I still play this on my super gameboy on my snes great memories

  • RIP Gunpei Yokoi. Your legacy should be remembered with the Gameboy, and great games like this!

  • classic :)

  • 1:53:55. And so, Super Metroid began!

  • Gotta love this game, lol I still kept the game on my keychain xD

  • The menu "music" reminds me of Pink Floyd

  • i bought the game 3 years back and played again this past new years. gearing up for Other M.

  • Wonder how many Other M fawners would like to see some Metroid II stuff. Even if it's just in cutscenes. I would, but I'm still skeptic based on various statements from project spokesmen... <_<

  • one of my favorite games of all time

  • This is the most forgotten title in the Metroid Series although the ending is referenced in the intro for Super Metroid.

  • @LetsPlayTarosan - Unless I am wrong, it is also heavily implied in Metroid Other M. Also, this is the only game in the series that just about exclusively deals with it's namesake :3 A very special game.

  • @LetsPlayTarosan Forgotten by whom? Most certainly not by me, oh no!

  • @LetsPlayTarosan Its the least popular in the series which is a shame, it may not be on par with Super Metroid, but it is still a good game

  • More than just that. If not for the Baby Metroid:

Samus would have died at the hands (psychic death beams) of Mother Brain, instead of accuiring the awesome Hyper Beam

Or at the psudopods of the X-Parasite infection

And lastly; The SA-X would have been free to spread the X-Parasite plague across the universe, in a way Dark Samus and her Phazon would envy.

  • what a great game

  • @vinnieblacklodge

don't know the bonehead who made your comment labeled as "spam" but i agree!

  • Never played this game before. I'll have to give it a shot!

  • this is the first metriod game i beaten

  • It's a very good but short game but it's relevant because you see the ending from the intro of Super Metroid.

  • play it on the GBA sp. full color.

  • aw, i got thumbs down.

but playing it on the GBA sp is the closest of playing the canceled DX version.
