  • Oh my old times here in Brazil....I love so much Cocteau...

  • @aepfpvlp Hi there my friend,Im so pleased hearing this classic song

has brought back good memories for you :-))

  • Well, I'm not sure, but I wish they'd had a real drummer in those days-they don't dound like Depeche Mode, y' know.

  • @MrKarpote Hi there, I liked the hardness and coldness of the drum machine they used in the early days, it contrasted so well with the wailing guitars and

Lizs amazing yodeling vocals, good to hear from you my friend :)

  • she perfectly tears through this one with great aplomb.

  • @flaxlawna She sure does your right. I love the bleakness and rawness

of the Garlands album, my fave LP by far :))

  • Instant flashback to the village, early 80's, NYC. Love it.

  • @jjlaman Hi there,good times my friend :-))

  • Nice video for this very bleak song. Thanks for posting.

  • @jrbgeog Hi there, glad you enjoyed it my friend :))

  • So back in the days, it was Cocteau Twins embryo so promising. Had to become my ever favourite band in the world. Rythm box, so ethered guitar effects, unreal bass lines, never heard voices. Just unspeakable. I just love you the three you were, thank you so very much.

And now that you live in France, merci beaucoup à vous trois, vous m'avez fait rêver (thanks to all you three, you made me fly). Long live Scotland !

  • @Blamberweiserscheise Hi there, great comments my friend :)

I know some of the band see these comments, all the best for

2012 hope its a good one for us all :)

  • Pre Simon Raymond. Love it.

  • @ditimely Yeah the whole album featured original band founder

and member Will Heggie on Bass, brilliant guy too :)

  • I bet they had no idea how awesome and influential they'd be. . . . .

  • @DJINEVIL2323 Hi there my friend, your so right, still dont

think they do to be honest.!!! :)

  • p.s. sorry if I'm not replying to any comments, but i'm all wiped-out[dandyclockd] of all reactions over here. This really bums me out [pardon my French-American] cos i really

love them all...even the what's?- those really make me laugh.

  • @posypity Hi there my friend, no probs about replying back :)

its great to hear from you X ;-{))

  • scott, or should i say great scott, what a lantern show. you just made that song the

bestwan on the album for me. what a white dress too. here's to garlands of flowers

in my hair, monochromed-coloured[unrainbowed].have a nice day.

  • @posypity Haha loving all your comments my friend,

  • i love like their discord.

  • @mame0317mai Me to my friend, just love the guitar riff at the beginning,

so menacing, gives me shudders down my spine..classic music indeed :)

  • I hear "my credit card this, my credit card that" just before the chorus, but apparently it's "my cravings convince, my cravings commence". Lol

  • @malewhoreslag Classic track, glad you enjoyed it to..!! :)

  • @shum65 Well frankly I've had the best-of CD for ages and had written them off as a happier version of Dead Can Dance ever since, but thanks to your clips I got to know this album, and I'm loving that unexpected vibe of utter desolation. Great visuals by the way. Cheers

  • @malewhoreslag Cheers my friend, glad you enjoying both the music

and my visuals, I love Garlands the album, for its dark desolation too,

Have U checked out all their 12inchs/EPs from around that time, amazing.!!

  • mint band :)

  • @ForestSuper Hi there, they sure are m8 :D

  • it sounds like some mystical chat repeating DIANA ROSS over and over when she says die on a rosary

    And this song still is...

  • @TheBahnhofskino Sure was a long time ago my friend, great music just gets better...

Good to hear from you TheBahnhofskino.... :)

  • A very dear, now departed friend of mine, played this for me when he bought the 'tape'. I had never hear anything like it and was immediately mesmerized. Listened to this album over, and over...

  • @thenightbreak Hi there, sorry about your friend, I agree once heard your hooked -

4 ever to such mind blowing sounds, both musically and Vocally.. my fave album still..

  • Great upload!

  • This was the very FIRST song I ever heard by this AMAZING band back in '86 on "college radio" ( where else?? of course...) and it fucking BLEW MY MIND on the spot!!!...Not only is this song some kind of MIND-GASM in itself but you put images of my four Bauhaus GODS from their "She's in Parties" video to go along with it!!!... What else can you ask for??... A fucking MESMERIZING "audio" and "visual" EXPERIENCE, no doubt!!!...

  • @petermurphreak Cheers my friend, your so right about this track being a mind-gasm...!!!

and well spotted, it is the awesome Bauhaus in the video, classic band and track..... :)

Brilliant comments m8, glad you enjoyed the trip, good to hear from ya.....!!!

  • @GloomyBean Hi There, mine too my friend...good to hear from you GloomyBean...!!!

  • @shum65 Hope all is well!! thanks for sharing!!

  • Shum65 I believe we may feel the same... Thanks my friend... I just hope pearly drew drops drop will never define them! Oh so TOTP!!

  • @swissboo Hi there your so right, I think in the public's eye they are more defined

for their later albums, M&K, 4 Calendar, H.O.L, and B.B.K, many except early fans like us,

would be shocked to hear how dark and menacing their awesome "Garlands" days were,

It was such an honour to talk with Will Heggie last year, who talks with such pride about

his days with the band, a great guy..!!

Its really good to hear from ya my friend.. :)

  • Forget the need to find the words and just hear the base and the vocals. That is where the magic lies! Dear heart :)

  • @CodyRicheson Hi there my friend, totally agree with you, just love the dark and creepy

atmosphere created by both Robin and Will's awesome guitars here, and throughout

the ace Garlands album, Will's bass sets the backbone to the album, a fab guy...!!

its filled with amazing tracks just like this, great to hear from you my friend....!! :-))

  • Whoa. I started with later Cocteau Twins. This is quite a different sound than Blue Bell Knoll or Heaven or Las Vegas... But it's kick ass in a different way!

  • @TheZachReed Hi There my friend, this was the band at their most

dark and rawest period in the early years, I love it...checkout the rest

  • @kasfizzy Thanks m8, hey keep hold of that ticket stub, you never

know,it could be worth money some day, I,ve still got all my vinyl

albums too, I still prefer their deeper fuller sound, Garlands is

especially amazing on vinyl, it brings out all those deeper base-

sounds, and you get a brilliant echo on "Blind Dumb Deaf"

Thanks kasfizzy....great hearing from ya my friend.....!!!

    Its a love that lasts a life-time....

    Cheers hawk...keep-on enjoying the trip...

    Have a fab Easter Weekend....!!

  • And yes, i think excactly as another ones here, lyrics are just an instrument or just something that you see in the first time, but the music is music, so thats the point and thats what i enjoy, the art of music.

  • Perfectly said mate, and thats just what all

the band thought back then, certainly Will

Heggie viewed Lizs vocals as an amazing

    instrument....

As you say, the art of music my friend....!!

    Cheers for that....

  • Hey i see and see and every time im getting more in love with your videos, and this songs is just amazing, those guitars, that voice... i really like it, and i dont have to say it again, your video is amazing. I've never heard this whole album before, is it good?

  • Hi dear friend...your very kind indeed....!!!

I,m so pleased your enjoying my humble

videos, I had a ball doing all of them for the awesome "Garlands" album...

It really gets you involved with the songs

when doing a video for them..

Thats music to my ears, you enjoying this

    epic album mate...many thanx...!!!

  • This is not a song. This is a manthra!

  • Cheers mate, well said.....!!!

  • Now thats an intro for sure....!!!

    Those guitars are perfection....

Liz's vocals pierce the soul, they're just so

    damn good.....!!!

  • Thanks for posting!!! Used to spend my last dime on all 4AD productions. At the time I worked w/ international group ( Glasnost), we just loved having this cranked late P.M. at UNM also SIUE.

  • Your very welcome my friend....

Yeah, I always loved the 4ad stuff too, and

all the pictures and images the used...

Sounds like you all had fun at work with this gem playing on full blast....

    Great hearing from ya lithographer64...!!!

  • Raw and fabulous! That takes us back a few years. Oh crap!

  • Hi tbag007, know what ya mean mate..!!

Cant believe how fast time has gone,

Raw and fabulous is a perfect description

    Cheers my friend....!!

  • Will always be a fan! The Twins work is brilliant! My favorite is still Victorialand. They kind of lost me with Four Calender Cafe. And I hated when they changed label's and they wanted Liz to change her singing style for the masses. Have all CT's albums and colaborations. Even with Felt. And I still love DCD too!

  • Hi Mate, yeah, love "Victorialand" dreamy and groundbreaking, yet so underrated.... Checkout my videos for all that LP... Got my mix also for Felt ft Liz...on video... You sound like me,my friend, buying just about everything connected with the band. DCD was such a brill project "Song to the Siren" "Another Day" pure classics...!! Must admit, I to,loved Lizs unrecognisable vocals, from another plannet...brilliant..!! Have a great weekend mate......
  • this is primitive Ct's. Remember when this album first came out.

  • Hi mate...I know what your saying, but its

    earthy,menacing splendour at its best.....

The sound that woke my ears for sure....

And still "Garlands" is my fave CT album,

Will Heggie has been in touch with me,

What a brilliant bloke he is....!!

    Thanks ranrio70....

  • Agreed the Cocteau's have had two sides, the fluffy bunny side, but listen to the lyrics and the really sinister, I like the really sinister.

  • Hi tebb1t..me too mate...he-he...!!

  • it's one of the first songs i ever heard from them (first one was lorelei) always thought this is kinda scary song

  • Hi their...its sure starts a little scary...boo.!!

No seriously your right, the whole of the

"Garlands" album, is so dark, and edgy..

I love it...so atmospheric with menace..

Liz's vocals are hard and brilliant, almost

siren-like...the music is beyond words ...

    Thanx for commenting my friend....!!!

  • Lovely :)

  • Totally agree mate...its a classic track....!!!

  • God this tune still gets me after 25yrs.....

  • Hi pixie, class always lasts my friend..!!

I know what ya mean about it getting 2 ya,

    Keep on enjoying the music......

  • Brutal

  • Cheers schef..thats so right, theirs always

that air of menace and despair, yet hope-

mixed with pain with this ace track.....

I love the atmosphere it creates......

Liz's vocals are amazing,as is that guitar

as it roars away into battle,in the intro....

    A Classic....

  • Elizabeth Frasers voice transcends anything I've heard live from a female artist, incredible.I saw the Cocteaus 2x...magical!!!

  • Hi pixie..your so right my friend...!!

And so lucky to have seen them twice.....

Liz has a whole new world of vocal style

when live as you already know...awesome

    Thanx mate...

  • @schef75 "Brutal" is ALWAYS the first word that comes to mind when i listen to Cocteau

  • Hi mate your right, that brutal side is what

I love about their early stuff...it gives me the chills big time.....!!

    Cheers TheDivisionLeague.....

  • My friends laugh at me because I never pay attention to lyrics. I remember the sound. Voice is an instrument.

  • Hi mate..I never notice lyrics either, as you

say, the voice is an instrument, filled with

    passion,and emotions.....

  • Shum,

Isn't she saying Rosary, like the Rosary bead necklace?

  • Yeah thats right mate..Rosary as in the

    Rosary Beads.....

    Not Diana Rossary ha-ha..!!!

  • This is sooo cool. Garlands is such an awesome sound. Brings back memories of cruising in my truck at night.

  • Your right mate, I love Garlands..both the

single and the album are awesome.....!!

Every track is an adventure in soundscape

    Memories indeed my friend....

    Happy New Year to ya.....!!!

  • This is a joke, Zombie, but I always thought somewhere in this CT song Liz is singing "God is of a green forgetting no greens... I keep dying in rosary..." Don't be mad, but it's funny, I used to honestly "tune it", and I was probably sounding really silly! I do love this song a lot and it is a very gritty-but-poignant song (and with a "lonely, but beautiful mystery to it!")... It's like a lullaby or a riddle "wrapped up" in angst!

  • Hi bigbigman my friend..someone told me

it always sounded like "Diana Rossary"

and thats stuck in mind ever-since....

Its not of course, but its so funny when

people try to guess what the words are.

Cheers mate, good to hear from ya...

    Have a top Christmas.....!!!

  • bigbig --

she's not saying that? what next == there's no santa???

  • actaully I always heard :

    gotta save out green

    forgetting in the green

    try to see me drunk

  • I'll be dying in rosary ... I'm with these girl scouts face colors my face colors I'm not a dancer I am a dancer gotta save green forgetting in no green try to see me drunk I'll be dying in rosary ... (that's the american version) Ps. zombie -- GO MAKE MUSIC INSTEAD OF OBSESSING ABOUT IT -- I do -- it really helps honestly mat LIGHTEN UP. : )
  • Cheers brookbart.. thats what I like mate,

hearing what people think Liz is saying...

I bet she has a good laugh reading what

    others think shes singing...

All the Best to ya mate....!!!

  • I get so pissed looking at posts about their music!!! How dare anyone think they know what Liz is singing, you dont!!!! I've listened to some of their tracks hundreds and hundreds of times and it changes everytime....its fun trying to sing along, failing everytime, but still fun...

  • Hi zombie mate..I so know what you mean

I havent a clue what Liz is saying, and I luv

it that way, I too sing along to what I think

it sounds like, its just so magical, and so

    unique...and so Cocteau's.....!!!

Top comments my friend, keep on having

    fun mate......!!!!

  • Hey Shum65! I changed my user name 'cause I never liked it, so I added this video of yours as the first video favorite on my new account. The problem is, when I look up my old account name, smacktalker1, it shows no listings, but anyway, my new username, well, you already know that after I make a post, so never mind. If you have any suggestions as to how to retrieve my other account so I can favorite my old stuff, please let me know. Talk to ya later!

  • Hi mate, I,m honoured to be the first video

on your new channel,... its funny that you

cant see anything on your old channel.??

I,ve got 5 channels here on YouTube, and

I don't have any problems like that...

You didnt delete stuff by accident from the

old channel did ya.?? its easily done mate

Otherwise I,m not sure whats happened,

Let me know how you get on mate..!!

    Cheers INITIALSJE.....

  • I really like Cocteau Twins, and enjoy this album a lot. That said, I think you guys are over-rating it a bit. To me, Head over Heels, Treasure and Heaven or Las Vegas triumph over the likes of Garlands. Shum65, you've stated that everyone here has good taste, and I'm sure they do, as liking Cocteau Twins is a sure sign of good taste. But hey, what else do you listen to?
