Oh and Ben Weasel has a video with his new self titled band

  • Pop-punk is fast paced, upbeat punk rock with melodic hooks in it.

  • well, this is pop punk.

  • You think it sucks because you don't know what it is. "Real" punk fans understand "real" punk music comes from the Ramones: a band that heavily influences Mr. T experience and a lot of other pop punk artists.

  • someone clearly is open minded

  • pop is short for popular. pop punk has elements in it that is more popular like melodies unlike other genres of punk like hardcore

  • Pop is a word used in the mainstream, but also in the underground. This is the same for the word punk. In the world of rock music, we use these words interchangeably drawing the line between the mainstream, and the underground. When the words interchange, both words use different meanings when in the underground and when in the mainstream. So, this does not mean the word pop is essentially a mainstream word by mainstream definition.

  • wow i take it you know your music.better then most people.

  • and i wanna make clear punk pop does not mean popular punk.we just got some bands that are punk pop that are popular.but so does punk rock the clash was super popular back in the 70s and 80s.thats why they were called the only band that matters.

  • i always figured punk pop is fast punk rock but with a catchy hook to it.like more melody.

  • Nice discussion on the the etymology of the term "Pop-Punk." Who's the brunette with the big hooters?

  • ive longed asked that question. kudos to whoever finds her adress

  • hannah barbera made this mr t experience video ???

    jajajaja

  • has any1 read frank portman's book king dork?

  • ya man. Thats how i found out about this band.

Franks book King Dork is really good.

Sex, rock and roll, drugs. Awesome book.

  • i have

  • Yes I have that is the best book ever written as far as I'm concerned

  • Mr.t Experience are Pop-Punk legends!

  • Many followers of the more underground styles of punk and hard rock often consider the term "pop-punk" a contradiction in terms given the fundmental natures of each originating genre -Punk being anti-establishment/anti-mainstream orientated in its stylings and beliefs and thus the defiant opposite to Pop. Many also consider the name dirivitive towards Punk as an evolving genre and so too the artists that may describe themselfs in this manner.

  • There is no contradiction. The original punks were the garage rockers of the 1960s who wanted to be The Stones and The Beatles but were too amateurish or raw. The "anti-establishment" angle was attached later. Take this song for example, which blatantly quotes Hang On Sloopy which was actually a 60s version of pop-punk.

  • Although garage was similar to punk, and even influenced punk, it might be more careful to keep this 60's genre out of the decade called the 70's which gave punk rock a name as a focus for a legit genre of rock n roll. all rock genres are influential and similar. in the end, it's all rock n roll. but lets draw the line somewhere.

  • Anyways, pop-punk is legitiment. just because pop was in the mainstream doesnt mean it's not punk. pop is just a term interpreted many different ways even outside the mainstream, just like this guy who tried to describe" garage "as purely "punk". You should also know that "punk" was also a mainstream term to popularize the genre in the first place. i guess "Hardcore punk "is a contradiction in terms also. thats "punk" enough i'm sure.

  • You speak the truth my friend.

  • Pop-punk is simply a term for punk music that incorporates stuff from pop-music to make it something that both punk fans and mainstream fans can appreciate.

  • Why you guys hating on me? It's true, Pop Punk is Punk with pop elements like melody that make it more appealing to people who don't like the wild antics of bands like Stikky, it gets people hooked on something really soft, then pulls them into the harder stuff.

  • i think ure half wrong.punk pop to me is punk rock but with more melody.and pop is melodic so they get the word pop from that.most of the bands aint anarchist and anything either.not saying punk rock is anarchy cause its not.

  • the end was going to give me a seziure. :P

  • I love MtX Videos. How come Screeching Weasel made a video.

  • MTX is awesome

  • Don't you mean...MTX are awesome?

  • depends if youre american or english hehe.

  • I understand completely.

  • its cos americans see a band as one entity, whereas brits see a band as a collection of individuals- both are right imo.

  • well lets not forget ba ba ba ba ba
