The cons, at least for me, is the risk of the capture program crashing/freezing in the midst of a match and it's cumbersome to carry my PC downstairs lol. With the VCR I know for sure it will record %100 (with a good tape) and it's quite convenient, easy to setup, and I can haul it around. Using a TV/VCR combo is even better. =)
Anytime! Capture is my specialty. I suggest getting a DVD recorder and record off one of the svideo splitter outputs. They hardly ever fail/crash. So... The DC goes into the s-video splitter, and then you have 4 outputs. 1 output goes straight to the TV, the other output goes to your capture device, be it a pc, dvd recorder, or your cam (if it can accept video in). Then just record away! Afters encode to 640x480 x264 codec mp4 and upload it to youtube :)
The only thing I found on Radioshack that comes close under "s-video splitter," is this: Distribution Amplifier. I'm gonna try to capture it on my Sony Handycam first. If that doesn't work, I'll look into Dazzle or something. Thanks bro!

Finding the capture program for your capture device/card and adjusting the encoding settings can be pretty tricky. I had to do alot of experimentation. I finally settled with Cyberlink Powerdirector for capturing and Virtualdub for cutting and combining.

Yep, there are USB capture devices and PCI/PCI-e capture cards that you plug into the motherboard. I've used both for capturing MvC2 footage and they are equally good in terms of video quality. However if you're planning to capture high definition footage as well then IMO the PCI/PCI-e cards would be better for you. BoyUzi can back me up on this (or shoot me down if I'm wrong haha).
