I do love Lou Reed and his originality and his style.... but come on, this shits not thatttt good. Its original I give it that but idk, I just can't listen to it. Too slow, the words dont fit, I don't know. Someone explain to me how its so good...
@333blackmath I feel the same. He's written some absolutely classic songs with the Velvet Underground and a few in his solo career, but lyrically, this song is pretty shit. I think he's considered one of the greatest lyricist based on his VU work
As far as I know this song is indeed a reference to Andy Warhol hence the title Andys chest ( re: when he got shot in the chest? ). I've loved this album all my life as my parents used to play it when I was a kid... Im now 30! :/
"When rattle snakes lose their skins and their hearts! " Is this song in relation to Mr Andy Warhole? Sounds like bowie in the backing : S : D Lou Reed kicks ass saw him on Elvis Costello`s show
"When rattle snakes lose their skins and their hearts! " Is this song in relation to Mr Andy Warhole? Sounds like bowie in the backing : S : D Lou Reed kicks ass saw him on Albert Costello`s show
why is today's non-rock music often compared to yesterday's rock music? that would be like someone in the early '70's comparing the cornelius bros. and sister rose to gene vincent. they're not just from totally different eras, they're totally different types of music. that being said, i, too, love "transformer." rock on....
No fuck no, :) i think today many people do it ONLY cause the money, ex Green day and that kind of wannabe shit, there is a few bands left like the hives or the cure, that is pure music :)
But that is maybe beacuse more people get into that hip hop culture, i am 14, and almost all my friends are listening to that rubbish, :)
the real hero of this album is the great mick ronson, who provided the brilliant arrangements, as well as smokin' guitar and backing vocals, along with bowie.
It is a love song. It is about his relationship with warhol (not sexual) but a love of admiration and respect. Lou Reed always talks about how Andy inspired him to write and provided a kind of almost parental guidance without the drawbacks or control. Maybe more of an idolized big brother. Perfect song.
although the lyrics are "lou's", this is actually a velvet song, recorded in 1969 and later featured on the "VU" album. The song is absolutely amazing and surprisingly velvet.
it's that david bowie's brilliant backing vocals again?
we have to thank dave for re-inventing this genius and giving him the chance to record this masterpiece (although reid's later albums are even better...)
@888edward888 Warhol wasn't a musician. That doesn't mean he was a joke. This is such a ridiculous thing to say. He was so influential on the Velvets. People like you will never get it, but to be around Warhol is the 60s would have been such an amazing experience, it is the definition of New York in the 60s.
@seviwesuohetarepsed the velvets helped to make the 60's also, lou has always been a genius, born that way, what a dude (not to take anything away from Andy W. he was definitely a genius also, i think that's why they resonated so well with one another
@reallibertine he would be the genius that he is, they teamed up together back in the 60's with the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, both geniuses and they helped one another, influenced one another to say one was more than the other is just well how u say? not particularly accurate
lou lyrics at their best. I dont know if anyone realy knows what this song means but somehow it is pure art. Swoop swoop oh baby rock rock. Love you lou.
The song is actually based around Dadaist wordplay, written by Lou Reed to cheer up Andy Warhol after he got shot (in the chest = the song title, "Andy's Chest").

with "the blue mask" he realized that less is better- drums+bass+ robert quine+quine's insistence that lou play guitar again- brilliance.

lou in these years often suffered from over production

the VU version is more rollicking and representative

but you'll miss out on the production!

This song is truly poetic! My generation needs to hear more music like this unlike the filth that we hear everyday like lil wayne and jeezy!

reallibertine 4 years ago
@reallibertine xctly the same. warhol was a joke, what instrumnt did warhol play, what music did he write
888edward888 1 year ago
Just because Warhol wasn't a musician, doesn't mean he couldn't influence Lou's outlook.
sjk72 1 year ago 3
that is true. i still maintain, there was not much original re warhol. reed would have got to the exact same place wo him
