@Saggrisch They stopped making them which is a shame! They come up on ebay for stupidly high prices (like £500 or more!) When i've seen them go for £150 which is more appropirate really given the non adjustable bridge! If you get one great catch though! If you get it for below £300 then go for it!
@AttitudeCastle Aw damn... is there anything that compares to this bass? I'm having trouble finding any 8-string basses (which are not octave-tuned) at all :( I'm from Hamburg, Germany, Europe. :D
@sohnemann I'm in the UK :) Wie gehts? Haha my secondary school german! Sorry!
One of these is for sale on a UK forum i am a member of, but i have no idea how much shipping would be and i don't think the owner wants too post it :( Any reason in particular you need an 8 string? You could Get a Heke-Vertreibe (i think is the spelling!) 7-string Off Ebay, they are quite good and as yoru in germany if you get a not so good one getting a free replacement would be less hassle than for me!
you don't need an amp to display it's proper tone. straight through a mixer on a flat EQ is suffice. oh, and the stock pick ups and electronics sound pretty average too me.
If I were to buy this bass (completely hypothetically, sadly), what pickups would you recommend to replace the stock ones? I'm a guitarist, and I don't know too much about bass electronics. I actually thought these pickups sounded really good, but I'm guessing you would probably know better, seeing as you are the bassist. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
The tone is quite good with the stock pickups but a good set of pickups can make this bass really sing.
I have been looking about myself for pickups for this, my perfect ones would be Conklin or Delano but seeing as I live outside America they will work out quite dear with import duty and such, so I am looking about for custom made bass pickups in Europe. Currently the most promising look to be Benedetti, they seem to be very highly thought off and reasonably priced!
@AntiHero1996 lol DONT replace. first off they are not easy to replace. remember there longer than normal. you would have to get someone to custom build the pickups
I know, it's a nightmare. I import mine from Conklin in America, they are hand made strings and yes, they cost a bomb. One string costs more then most entire sets of bass strings!
i heard the action cant be adjusted on these??can the kneck or intonation?any bad points about it?
i never knew it was swamp ash!its a great price for that alone!maybe in your next video you could show some more finger style around the upper registers?
good video,im going to subscribe after this comment,
I am not sure weather it is just the vender I bought mine of, or weather they have changed completely, but the bridge on mine is adjustable.
Bad points would be the pickups, the low f# [I havn't played any other basses so I don't know if this is a standard thing, also it could be due to the fact that lower frequencies sound lower in volume] but it doesn't have as much presence as the other strings.
Also the high f sounds different from the rest of the strings, sounds almost like a guitar string [not nessacarily but I could like a more even tone]. Perhaps a higher gauge string will sort that problem out.
For the price these flaws can be more the overlooked. Plus I found it has a great battery lifelength for the active [some older models had problems but the newer ones have sorted this].
The neck is fully adjustable, double truss rod. I will do more higher register. ;)
Wow!!! The 8th string are very low!!!

What were you playing from 6:23 to 6:56?
Also, what pick-ups are you going to replace those with?

This bass is a set neck not a neck through body btw :)

What amp(and cab?) do you use with this? And how well does it amplify the Low F#? I know many amps which can barely do an E and a B let alone an F#!

Too slow?
And why would I not be a bassist?
This is a review, not me playing fast. If you want to see me play fast maybe check out my video "Nile - Execration Text".
Don't look at a review for talent, look at a review for the instrument.
Also look up videos on how to develop common sense, it seems as though you need it.

for good pickups i'd say EMG's or Seymore Duncans are the best, but that's just my personaly opinion

Those companys are much more guitar orientated then bass, also they don't make any 8 string models for guitar, let alone bass! Sadly.
Thanks for watching ;)

@Gilleece666 u could probably just get your strings from juststrings . com and save a bunch of money
Aguni66 2 years ago
you could probably just get a 6 string set and then order the highest and lowest to cut costs.
morganchavis 2 years ago
The only thing is the timbre of the strings would be different, unfortunately.

well, the high F is not wound so it will have a different sound which is kind of a bummer but oh well.

Oh and if you're interested, I put together a playlist of all the videos of this bass I could find on youtube, so that might be off interest to you.
Hopefully this has given you some more information on the bass over all!
