@zwete : Minuatures ALWAYS look better than cg, because models are real objects. CG is simply calculations. Good for things that are physically impossiblke, but models will always look better for things to look real if they are well done.
If you ever want to try this get a copy of the old Elite game. it has basically the same method of approach and dead dificult to fly into the station with out crashing.
The music and choreography as usual for kubrick is superb
Lovely piece of work - I'm sure Krubrick would have been amazed back in 1965 when they started filming. They had to hand animate all the docking displays because no computer of that period could do real-time simulations.
this is the only one and only movie, based on the real science - physics and physician Herman Potocnik aka Noordung who imagined the space station like this with artificial gravitation. Masterpiece this movie
As a moatter of interest, where did you find your reference material, I've been trying to get together information about the centrifuge and the EVA pod, so if you have any new sources....
Well! It's really nice, but I do have to say that were I to pick one science fiction that was least in need of a CG remake, it would be 2001. Possibly the best model photography ever.
Regardless, great modeling job. My animation's usually fine once I'm done tweaking; my modeling proficiency can be somewhat lacking, though. I should do some exercises modeling random objects, just to get some more experience.
Well, the Earth never looked right in the film, because no color pictures had been taken from space at the time of production.
Also, in the shot from inside the cockpit of the Orion, the shadows on the station don't move.
Also, if you look at NASA photos taken in orbit (or on the Moon) during daylight, no stars are ever visible. That's been bugging me ever since those "Apollo Hoax" idiots started saying that no visible stars was "proof" that the Moon landings were faked.
Excellent work!

It does the exact same motions but...just feels wrong. The original's model work just is unmatchable even with advancements in special effects

This is some quality CGI! Why is it rated so low?

Dang...it looks real! This is some of the best CGI I've seen on youtube!

The reason why it spins is because it creates simulated gravity
